I agree, Danny Bush. Most of greats have two or three elements in which they can't be touched. Eva had 5 or 6. She could do what they did as well as them. She had no limits of weaknesses as a singer. She could scat as well as Ella, the range of Cleo Laine, the jazz sense and restraint of Lady Day, bluesy as Sarah Vaughn and smokey as Nina Simone. She had it all. It's not hype to say she may have been the best all-around vocalist of the 20th century. Never knew her and listening to her never fails to make me take a sober assessment of myself. A voice so true it was truth. RIP, Eva.

I know there is a life after death, because I lost my youngest twin at just 42 days old. , Three years later, his co-twin died in surgery, but was brought back to us after about two minutes with no breathing, heart or brain activity. A month later, he told us all about it, and who he saw, and what he did there. We have a lot to look forward to, and once he said, "Oh, Mom, you know everything when you die." How is Eva Cassidy this damn good?! Hands down one of the best vocals I have ever heard and her guitar playing is just as good. Not many singers can break me and make me cry just by hearing their voice, but Eva is in a whole other league. I cried twice watching this concert. Once during Time After Time and a second time during Somewhere Over the Rainbow. I have never heard Somewhere Over the Rainbow covered so beautifully. It’s damn near flawless with both the vocals and guitar. I am so proud too that Eva Cassidy is from my state that I am from the great state of Maryland and I am so happy that she shared her voice with us before she left this world. Her voice is just timeless and you know it’s good when it makes you cry and gives you goosebumps. Thanks for posting her final concert so that she gets the credit she rightfully deserves as an artist.

The greatest vocalist of her generation supported herself working at a plant nursery because record executives did not know how to package her, refused to see her as the talent we love and appreciate. Did she contract the melanoma that killed her from chemicals at the nursery or from exposure to the sun, both hazards for people in ag-related businesses? She was working there to make ends meet, not reaping any of the royalties (much less the acclaim) that have come her way since her death. Properly remunerated at the time for her genius -- or even living in a country with a decent national health system -- she might have gone to the doctor before the melanoma had spread throughout her body. Medical costs discourage many people from doctor appointments. Massive failure of the world we have created on several fronts. Those who knew Eva STILL love her, or love her still. We latecomers were denied that opportunity. We love her NOW.

This documentary reveals a great deal about Eva Cassidy, important in understanding her choices, direction (many), and that critical one night at Blues Alley. It is a nod to the guys behind her, especially Chris B. (Thanks, guys. This could not have been easy to do.) This film explains a bit about her musical choices, which have been criticized as too generic. Yet I myself am thrilled that her song choices reflect my own - wonderful songs that I know and love well. Every song is terrific. No filler. As that one night of music defined most of what the greater world would hear from Eva Cassidy, this film fills in much- pondered gaps and adds essential knowledge to her legacy. Without CB and the band, no one ever would have heard this music. Well done all round then.

Then in 2016 had aortic valve replaced one bypass and a pacemaker put in and heart Dr told me everything under my rib cage is fried from radiation treatments long ago and looks like leather. But this is the easy part of my life for believe it or not in 1973 I met a girl from Alaska in Toronto Canada September 1,1973 and her brother gave me his sister’s hand in marriage because I had a Draft Card for the Vietnam War when I was 18 years old that year. Well in my failed attempts to get to an unknown location in Alaska from Niagara Falls NY my family had me put in restraints because they said I had an imaginary wife and daughter Jewelry, long story short in Jewel Kilcher’s Songs Foolish Games and Enter from the East are about Me and the situation I just mentioned and I ended up in the Special Olympics August 25,1974 three months after I heard a whisper the girl in Alaska had a daughter and named her Jewel !!! 😢

Here we have a truly class act. Eva’s spin, on traditional old and modern classics, is unique. A voice all her own. Renditions of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow “ and “Autumn Leaves” are so wonderfully caressed by a voice that shows it’s pain and sadness. But also Eva sings with a deep sense of hope and certainty too. Gone too soon. Such a talent. RIP x

Who is this singer I thought? And only then did I discover she had already died, so I cried some more. She's so powerfully affecting. Incredible voice, other worldly. From an interview with Doug MacLeod, who wrote Nightbird. Interviewer: Your songs have been recorded by many artists, so which are your favorite interpretations? Doug: I have a couple of favorites. One was Eva Cassidy’s version of Nightbird. That song is about a prostitute, a prostitute that I used to live with who really watched out for me. I have no idea if Eva Cassidy knew what that song was about and I never heard it until my wife played it for me during a drive to Los Angeles from San Luis Obispo. I’m a huge baseball fan and my team, the Cardinals from St Louis, were playing the Dodgers and I wanted to listen to the game. My wife said “I got something for you to hear”, and I said, “But the Cardinals are on” and she said “This is more important than the Cardinals” and she put this CD on of Eva Cassidy. I tell you, it moved me so much, I pulled over to the side of the road and I was weeping. I have never done that song again. When people ask me to do Nightbird, I tell them that if they want to hear THE version, she is the one to listen to. And then of course she died before I got a chance to meet her to ask her how she interpreted it like that.

Her mom was the game player along with a girl Lanedra Carroll calls Laura Gold on Jewel’s credits of her second CD 💿 called Spirit and the very last song on that CD is called This little Bird 🐦 and Nedra held me in her arms and sang that song to Me after we consummated our marriage see that guy Jewel calls her father in public gave Me His Sister’s hand in marriage at an LRY Conference in Toronto Canada September 1,1973 because I had a Draft Card for the Vietnam War and My Random # was 027
