Car parts. Swap meet finds. Massive amounts of rust. All those things don’t usually add up to much, But Garage Builder Evan Mahlstedt and his buddies took all that and more to create a one-of-a-kind custom built ’77 Honda XS650 chopper. Evan brought the chopper to the Garage Build Invitational that was held during the Donnie Smith Bike Show.
The XS650 chopper build began with a very rusty donor bike. Evan started the build by cleaning up all the rust and restoring the frame. Next came a tank from a flea market, a headlight from a ’65 Mustang, a taillight from a ‘40’s car, and a Mercedes gas cap. A lot of the other parts on the build were custom made by Evan and his crew. The exhaust was created from scrap.
Evan’s build is a great example of what being a Garage Builder is all about. With his group of friends, Evan takes what they can get for donor bikes and parts and creates something unique to them.
