Crazy how explosive he was in the ring but his actual training wasnt

Totally agree with this comment, 100%. Holyfield himself has been heard something to the effect of "you fight the way you practice"... yet he fought a heck of a lot better than his practice/training would suggest. It puzzles me that fighters like Tyson look vicious even when shadow boxing... and in comparison, when Holyfield shadow boxes, he throws lots of punches, but many are unrealistic "nothing on them" type of punches that he never uses in fights. So many in boxing have talked about Evander's work in the gym being unparalleled, but it may be the case that they are privy to the work that none of us see in the limited video footage that's floating around on the internet.

he got his explosiveness from weights. he would do intense 2 hour weight sessions on top of the drilling. his trainer claimed that he would get his heart rate up to 180/190 then pump out 10 reps of 360 on the bench. it's just a different approach to training more like a football player. you don't need to throw max effort punches after that type of training because you've already tapped out your central nervous system at that point.

@@taylormolitoris9131 I find it hard to believe tho that he’d rep 360lbs on the bench for a set of 10. That seems like quite a bit

This wasnt his complete training. Search up “Lee Haney/Fred Hatfield training Evander Hollyfield”. The stuff in the video barely covered what he would actually do.
