Swimming Home is from the perspective of the person that was under water on Never go Back, it's about pass away and accept you being take back home To me, the instrumental is an Ode to Björk's Vespertine. The synths, harp, micro beats, some vocals. Still standing one of my all time favorite tracks from Evanescence. It's one of the "lost" tracks was made for the album their label at the time put away and made the band create a new one that became the self titled.

Hi "SuperJersh", some background info from Songfacts: "This ethereal electronic track closes Evanescence's third album and completes a trilogy of sea-themed songs following "Never Go Back" and "Oceans." Frontwoman Amy Lee explained its meaning to Kerrang! magazine: "It's goodbye," she said. "It's partly about the acceptance of death. I love that song because it's not angry and it's not perfectly happy. It's sad but it's accepting the things in life that are hard - like someone leaving this world and feeling the peace of crossing over." She continued: "I've been through plenty of loss in my life. A big part of my early childhood was loss and understanding death and I think that this is me expressing that in a beautiful way. That's a part of life and it's okay." RogerC 2/10/24

Death is also a recurring theme in Amy’s writing, not only romantic relationship type love. It could be helpful to keep in mind that when listening to more evanescence songs as it gives them a little bit of depth at first sight ;)

Also, it helps to keep in mind that MOST of their lyrics are metaphors. Very few songs mean exactly what they say. So a lyric can appear to be about relationships but in reality is about death, or depression or grief.

you need to investigate the context of the album because your mind is so full of TS songs and relationships lyrics that keep you on the surface of the meaning of songs.

This song was written for the movie "Ponyo" but was denied. ❤️. It is practically a "trip hop".

@@04BRN Amy Lee revealed in an interview that Swimming Home was originally submitted for the soundtrack, but it wasn't accepted.[1] The song was later chosen to be released on Evanescence's self-titled album, being part of a scrapped album referred to as Broken Record, primarily focused on programming.

@@roubandoalua2713 and that album was recorded in 2008. If she intended something with the movie it has to be done a year prior. She already spoke about this song that was inspire by the sunami in indonesia... Just like never go back was the first part and swimming home was that after the fact, like a soul passing away
