Oops missed this release, lol. No Sunday show so wasn't paying attention, Finally caught up, fab video as always, It Just seems bike tech gets more rad and then some, and now we have wheels with no lip to hold onto a tubeless tire.? For those of us old enough to have seen Greg LeMond win the Tour De France time trial way back in 89, with a pair of clip-on aero bars, triathlon has always been at the cutting edge of bike development. Great watch as always, stay safe both see you next week, much love from the UK.

I would love a education style video breaking down all the numbers for tires, rims, discs and such. I’m decently versed in triathlon/bike lingo, but would love to understand more about all the things above and the nitty gritty details needed to understand

Great vid Eric, drone bike shots to underwater stroke shots with awesome music -love it! 35 years ago we raced on Continenal sew ups @ 120 psi and now you're winning at 60 psi - mind blowing. Best of luck in Portland, my guess is you'll be battling the "father & son" Middaugh"s among others. We do have something in common, TTL shorts which are the BEST!!

She'll probably bring the 454 and the 858 and make a game time decision based on the wind conditions. I (Eric) am not really interested in racing Boulder, but Paula might!

Are hookless wheels basically tubular wheels? It seems like they are similar based on your description
@alexjohnson6462
2 жыл бұрын
No. Nothing like tubular. Hookless rims are like if you were to taje an ordinary clincher rim, and shave the tiny hook off of it. That hook has been there for as long as clincher tires have been around, and for good reason. It is a safety feature which helps keep the bead of the tire locked into place on the rim. If you have a rapid tire deflation (blowout, big gash in tire, etc..), it helps keep the tire from just instantly rolling off the rim. It also helps keep the tire locked on the rim at high pressures. Now if you are wondering why any responsible manufacturer would intentionally remove a vital safety feature, you would be asking the same question millions of cyclists now have about yet another industry standard being foisted on us. Onky this one is a safety issue as hookless rims are only safe to operate in a narrow pressure range. If you go too high or low in pressure, the tires come off these hookless rims. These manufacturers have the nerve to consider this a "feature" and not a "bug"... but of course, they have "reasons".
@alexjohnson6462
2 жыл бұрын
Also, hookless rims are generally limit to 72.5psi maximum pressure. That limits their usefullness to peoole who run 28c or larger tires. If you normally prefer to run 700x20c or 25c, that would be on the lower end of what you would run for those size rims. 25c it is borderline doable, but for 20c tires, it is out of the question as most average weight riders need about 75 to 80psi minimum in a 20c tire. Thats why you will see the new hookless rims tend to accommodate wider tires.
@adammaloney6545

@@alexjohnson6462 yes but the point of that move from Zipp and ENVE is the science saying that nobody should be using 20-25c tires anymore, as they discovered they don’t actually have lower rolling resistance, and are less comfortable. I guess you could dig into the weight weenie differences between a 25c and 28c, but if that’s the case you’d probably gravitate towards a lighter wheel than Zipp anyways.
