The BR 04s did have cow catchers and sideplates, but only the ones that worked on the Wisbech & Upwell Tramway or Great Yarmouth Docks. This is because they were working in places where there were people in danger of getting swiped under the wheels, so they need the extra wheel coverage. As displayed on Toby, the J70s (which were replaced by the BR 04s) also had this feature if they worked in those areas.

I was talking to an ex-railway man the other day and apparently the controls of the sentinels faced the longer nose, so therefore that is technically the front, however like you say as shunters they would have ran in both directions. Mavis, I think, is based on the Drewry 0-6-0 shunter. In the UK Drewry didn't build their own engine but subcontracted them to companies such as English Electric, Robert Stephenson, Vulcan and Hawthorn as well as British Railways workshops. The latter became the 03/04s. Because they were an industrial locomotive, there was nothing to stop Drewry from selling them for private use in quarries, dockyards etc. The covering of the sides using plates would be required if the engines travelled on public roads although I am not sure about cowcatchers. It is quite possible that some may have been sold to industry with protective side plates like Mavis has.

There was actually a King Arthur class locomotive in real life with three smoke stacks. The purpose for the three smokestacks was to be camouflaged from the dispersed smoke and steam to hide from world war two fighter jets. Also, Mavis and Toby were based off the 04's and the steam trams of the Wisbech and Upwell tramway. The 04's were painted black. Both engines in real life had side plates and cowcatchers. This made Toby and Mavis almost identical to the 04's and the steam trams of the Wisbech and Upwell Tramway.

A class of 35 large mixed traffic (most of the NZR stock was mixed traffic) locos, these, along with their sister Kb class (witch are almost identical except for a booster unit in the trailing bogie) where built following the success of the K class, and where the largest locos to ever run in New Zealand. Of the 35 Ka locos built, 3 survive, and of the extended family with the K (30 locos) and Kb (6 locos), 3 K's survive and 1 Kb. My personal favorite individual loco is Ka 942. @DC4260Productions
5 жыл бұрын
There's a few interesting things I've learned about the character Merlin. Firstly he is voiced by Hugh Bonneville, who has also starred as Mr. Brown in the two recent Paddington films. Secondly there was a real King Arthur class locomotive named Merlin, but this engine was numbered 740. The Thomas character Merlin's number is 783. The real 783 was actually named Sir Gillimere. Sadly the real 740 'Merlin' was deliberately derailed on the Longmoor Military Railway in the 1960s. Why they did this is anyone's guess. I would rather have the engine preserved. Fortunately there is one King Arthur engine in preservation, and that's 777 'Sir Lamiel'.

I remember when you said that Rosie appeared to have a disease, but the dots are actually freckles and the pink is makeup. I don't know why in the world they made the character like that, but I don't really mind it.

As for those you didn't show I'm kind of surprised that you didn't show the Class 08 Diesel Shunter as that's the one class to have the most Characters based on it.

Do you have plans to get "Devious Diesel"? There are two versions of him in Bachmann: happy and grumpy. Personally I would get the grumpy version of him.

You should do a running session where the only freight wagons you use are branded, E.G. pepsi tank wagons, the kitkat and weetabix wagons, shell tankers, etc.
