Hey Tyler, could you do a series about what would happen to Humanity if we really did make contact with various Star Trek aliens. Like what would happen if real life Humans encountered Vulcans, and then you could do another video about if it were Tellarites etc. You could make a lot of videos because there are so many, but then again most Trek aliens act the same. You're good at making these videos and I think it would turn out cool.

I think that the Undine are the "last man standing " after the death of their universe. Think about it, when the stars die out sentient species would struggle to find ways to survive. Moreover, those that find a way to survive would be targeted by other desperate species. This would explain why the Undine are so powerful, they had to survive the end of the universe and every other species. This also explains their moto, "the weak will perish. "

@@patar3323 No, no. You are so close. So there is a theory that the multiple universes in the multi-verse live in their own bubbles that expand, vibrate and contract. When two universe bubbles touch each other they exchange material causing a new "big bang" which causes the bubble to contract and then start to expand again. These bubbles have to be inside some type of medium correct? why can't that medium be fluidic space? It checks out with your theory, instead of surviving the end of their universe they found a way to escape and live in the medium that contains all universes.

Actually, don’t you know that some science fiction writers took/take offense to the shortened term sci-fi and instead insist on saying “science fiction”. For example the late Harlan Ellison. He was notorious for saying angry stuff in general but he was always angry and had a pet peeve when people said “sci-fi” because to him it was making it sound like it was dismissive and insulting. I don’t know whether I agree with him since he also said plenty stupid things and took comics as seriously as literature (I think).

Check out the underrated TNG graphic novel "Assimilation2". The Borg run into a race of cybernasties even worse than 8472. The situation is so bad the Borg try to form an alliance with the Federation/Enterprise... and the Enterprise needs to bring in characters from another franchise!!

The problem with Species 8472 is the Directors, Writers, Producers hardly do anything with them. They are one of the more powerful species and they're not used in any major motion film by the Star Trek people. Were they ever on "Picard"? A really good major motion film would've been the Q vs 0 story line. No one did anything! Frustrating!
@patrickmccurry1563

That's probably why they were not used. How do you create drama when the heroes are just people and the enemies are so massively overpowered? Even the awesome stories with Q show him to be kind of a lone idiot, especially when fan theory is that he acts that way intentionally.

Actually there were big plans big plans for Species 8472. The plan was for them to be the new big bad for the rest of the series basically replacing the Borg. Their invasion was suppose to spread beyond Borg space and they were going to be a constant thorn in Voyagers side. Unfortunately after producing Scorpion the producers quickly figured out that the CGI for Species 8472 was way too expensive to be a constant bad guy. So they decided to limit them to only a few episodes, but even that proved to be expensive. The episode where they took human form and eventually made peace with Voyager was created to finally wrap up that plot point so they wouldn't have to make any more Species 8472 episodes.

There used to be a lot of arguments about which is actually the most powerful and dangerous race in the known Trek universe, though this many years past, and I cannot say for sure if this is still a thing among modern Tekkies...... but it certainly was, up until the early 2000s, when I drifted away from the Trek world. It was the Romulans, the Klingnons, the usual suspects, that would be kicking things off in such debates most of the time, then the newbs would bust out the Founders, or the Jem Hadar, but then we would get all the hardcore folk, educating the casuals about how well no... it is ... the Q... obviously.... or the Breen, cos you know... they are all mysterious.... and then the argument would run through every other alien, from the energy being at Far Point to the Gatekeeper dude..... but when the dust settled in most debates people in my circle of trek heads got in to.... ....it always came down to one major question, and subsequently its answer, settling things. Who has consistently posed the greatest threat to, done more damage to, the Federation, across the largest swathe of the Universe? The Borg. So we have our answer... except we don't. Not in the Borg. Species 8472 almost wiped the Borg out. They were desperate enough to ally with Voyager, a Federation vessel, even though they'd wanted to 'Assimilate' the races of the Federation so badly they pursued so ardently they became that above most dangerous and damaging opponent. So obviously, that is the answer to the question. In terms of real threat, if they organized.... the Undine, would be the most powerful race in all the known Trek Universe. Well... not really.... even taking the Q out, because the Continuum put humanity on trial, and we won, and all the other demigod like aliens seem to be singular beings..... we cannot forget who the real code red, run screaming, demon lord op Isekai MC, uber Comic-verse, powerhouse civilization is. The Undine pwn everyone..... even the BORG, they rek so hard that the Borg feared genocide at their hands. Janeway and the Voyager crew recognized their crazy OP nature, and super advanced technological level, their existence whispered by other races in the Delta Quadrant like the civilizational form of Keyser Soze...... .....except the Hirogen. No one pwns the Hirogen. In fact, the Hirogen HUNT the Undine.... like they hunt everyone else... yeah, the Undine... the guys who make the Borg fear genocide. So they cannot be the MOST powerful species in the Trek Universe.... but since the Hirogen never operate with more than a few ships and handful of their people working together (though irrc they CAN, though never do, call in a Great Hunt, call in every other Hirogen ship they can to make a great fleet and bring thousands of hunters together as an army... should they have to come together as a race... that would be terrifying)..it is safe to say 8472 is definitely the real badass danger in the verse.... ....at least, since I do not really count anything made after Voyager as my verse.... retcon my ass. So, no, being pawns in the Hirogen living out their hardcore Predator Cosplay fantasy, means that I doubt they could beat Goku, just about everyone else, save he and the Hirogen though? Fo sure.

I am glad we don’t see more of them. That isn’t to say recent Star Trek isn’t full of stupidity and non-sense. I didn’t like this species because when Voyager was originally on TV they were trying to hype them, but as far as their behavior they essentially were identical to mindless invader monsters like the idiotic aliens in The Independence Day, or even Xenomorphs. I remember viewers were comparing the episode where Janeway had to fight one of this aliens it was joked that it’s like Star Trek is copying Alien. If they are advanced enough to make spaceships then they are advanced enough to have more diverse thought processes than just invading and killing all others. Even their body design is essentially a “tripod” which in science fiction is an idea that’s too old. The only reason we don’t see more tri legged aliens in movies is that it’s difficult to make a non cgi creature that realistically walks on 3 legs.

@@StopFear All the Star Trek post Wrath of Khan never were able to make good, solid villains. The Borg just became jobbers because of their own stupidity. The premise behind the Borg is just ridiculous. The way they fight battles is stupid. Wasted villain. The Dominion is the same thing. The Dominion are an acient race. The Founders had every opportunity to do some real serious damage to the entire Alpha Quadrant, but no, the kid gloves never came off. The Jem Hadar could defeat every ship in the Federation except the Defiant because it came with quantum phasing super duper plot armor. Then you have the Undine who came out swinging and curbstomping Borg left and right (since they're jobbers anyway), but then when they met Voyager. Voyager is the final boss to the Undine. Imagine you get to the final boss, and it's the guy working in the lab collecting samples. He doesn't even know how to fight. Yeah that's Voyager. Not a ship designed for war. The Undine ship was. Yet Voyager wins because of the law of conservation of ninjutsu. It's always the same with these writers

For some reason, I have a memory of the one Undine posing as Boothby telling the Voyager crew their species name. And it might have even been "Undine" too. But I rewatched the episode a year or so ago, and that scene simply doesn't exist. Unless it was a deleted scene that I picked up somewhere, I have no idea where I would have gotten that memory from. Anyway, in my opinion, "Undine" is a perfectly fine species name, and I hope the name gets canonized at some point in the future. More than 20 years on, and we're still referring to them by a Borg designation. The Elachi is another species, only seen on screen once, but never named, that STO fleshed out, and I hope the species name for them gets canonized too.

In the context of producing an epic, they are certainly a great villain to center the story around. But in the context of philosophical exploration as ST is want to do, I think we were well served by getting a nuanced view from both sides, leading up to the cease fire. In which case, the intricacies of their culture and their interaction with the Federation should've gotten more airtime. Though Voyager was still in a time when a fair amount of script & screentime was dedicated to this (vs. say Discovery now)

Never liked the way this species was introduced. The Borg tell Voyager that 8472 pose a threat to all life in the galaxy and the Voyager crew just... believe them? Worse still, they then decide to join in with hostilities against this uncontacted alien species based only on the word of the Federation's most ruthless enemy that, actually, "these guys are even worse than us, trust us why would we lie".
@DeathBYDesign666
2 жыл бұрын
I don't think the borg have the reputation for lying, in fact they are brutally honest in almost every respect. Plus I assume the federations top priority is to make them an allie instead of an enemy. It's more of a "devil you know" type of scenario.
@Julian_Pepper

@Tom O'Daighre Harry Kim was slapped by one and almost died, and telepathic contact was made by 8472 through Kes, where they expressed open hostility multiple times. Their intentions were well known before Voyager decided to contact the Borg about it, and yes Voyager initiated contact, not the other way around. The Borg wouldn't have told Voyager anything unless Voyager contacted them first which they only because they knew about 8472's intentions already and needed the Borg to help push them back. All this to say: Did you actually watch Scorpion? Because it really seems like you didn't.
@patrickmccurry1563

Allying with the Borg would realistically be taken as an act of war against literally every other species in the galaxy. The idea that Janeway would not have been officially court marshaled even if higher ups secretly agreed with her actions is nonsense, IMO.
@Julian_Pepper
2 жыл бұрын
@@patrickmccurry1563 considering Species 8472 openly express their intent to destroy all life in the Galaxy several times in Scorpion, and not even the threat of the Borg were able to fight back, I don't understand how you can justify NOT doing what was done in Scorpion. "Oh you know the species that's ripping the Borg to shreds like the Borg tore through the fleet at Wolf 359 and has openly expressed hostility towards all life in the Galaxy? Yeah let's just let them do their thing for 75 years while we go home because helping the Borg could be misconstrued as an act of war against everyone in the Galaxy, and giving technology to any race not in the Federation violates the Prime Directive." Read all that and tell me that isn't the stupidest course of action that could have possibly been taken considering the circumstances. That's what you're suggesting Voyager should have done. Anything else breaks some kind of important law somewhere in the Federation lawbook, leading to court martial if you ignore the circumstances like you have.
