Glad to have the next installment. One advantage of the lengthy interregnum is that I've forgotten what songs have already been covered. Add to that my lack of familiarity with the universe of 90's #1 alternative hits and it's a recipe for constant surprise, some slightly icky, but mostly, "Great song, great pick". My only "Dude... really?" from this segment was, of course, "Iris". Your cogent defense noted, but it's a big sludgy ballad that just screams "product" to me. Really, really screams it. On the positive side, "Joey" crushes all resistence. "Friday" delights despite that unfortunate cutesy keening Robert Smith does at the very end. "Policy" is peak Depeche Mode; I'm surprised you didn't talk at all about the lyrics as they, and that descending synth figure, are what raise it above its putative peers. Very smart song. "Pepper" is still as weird as it was and, god willing, it will always be. I played it for my teenaged son a few years ago when I sensed that he was thinking of the 90's as a quaint period where broader acceptance had defanged the serpents. It did the job. Finally, you snuck in a passing reference to Frente. I don't think they ever had any hits let along a chart-topper but who knows what may lie ahead. Even if "Accidentally Kelly Street" isn't in the top 15 I'm happy just to think about "Marvin, The Album". Just, please, no 4 Non-Blondes. That's all I ask as we end this journey. Thanks for all your hard work. It's been a great ride.

Thank you so much, and thank you for watching! In any other universe, I think I'd agree completely on "Iris," but for some reason it hit me in exactly the right way and continues to do so, as much as I try to deny it. You're right, I should've hit the lyrics on "Policy," but at that point I think I was just trying to be done with the dang thing. And fwiw, Frenté actually DID chart: "Labour of Love" and their cover of "Bizarre Love Triangle" both hit the top ten of the Modern Rock charts in the U.S., which were the only two songs of theirs I had any familiarity with until fairly recently. (And no more 4-Non Blondes, I promise. I did at least try to pick something other than That Song.)

Thank you for educating me about Kurt Cobain's influence! (I mean, I know his music had great influence. But I didn't know that his tastes had!)

Thank you! Yeah, his tastes were, shall we say, varied. (You can see the full image of his list that I cropped at www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fi.redd.it%2F8drlcp7nv1q91.jpg )

I fully suspect yours is the majority reaction to "Iris"; frankly, I'm shocked my own reaction isn't the same. I dunno how they got me, but they did.
