I just found your channel and I'm really loving the advice you give. I'm not really aiming to become a Blender expert, though I'm using it at times to make 3D models for video games. I just wanted to note that the advice you give concerning the use of checklists like this, or in another video about just making things and spending 70% of your time using the actual tool you are trying to learn as opposed to 70% of the time watching tutorials, are applicable in so many other creative media. So I'd highly encourage creatives of all types, whether in 3D modeling, video game design, music, animation, or whatever else, to watch your videos. Thanks for sharing!

photorealism requires you to not be artistic but mimic exactly how stuff work in real life. mixing HDRIs is a no (it's not that bad but still a no), that's a stylized approach (intentional). if you're going for photorealism, you have to contain your artistic itches and accept that if the sky looks like this the scene has to look like this because that's how it works in real life. it's less about art and more about understanding how stuff work.
@stache_obj

I totally disagree but I get where you're coming from. The whole point of having a 3d software is to bend the rules to achieve whatever you wanna achieve. There's no rulebook to follow here. The point is to use whatever resources you have to get the look you're aiming for. Prove me wrong!

There's nothing wrong with that. Different people have different workflows because the art they're creating is different. I had the same doubts but what reassured me was that Photoshop artists are respected as artists and they almost exclusively use assets made by other people. Very rarely are they shooting the assets they use. Filmmakers and directors are also respected despite the fact that the actors, props, backgrounds etc are the result of other individuals. It really depends on what the end product is and how much of your vision is going into it. As long as you aren't just putting models in a scene, hitting render and passing it off as your own, you're good.
