We had been tracking a famous group of three young male lion the whole afternoon. Just before it got dark, we suddenly found them with a fresh kill.
We watched them feed and fight each other for the prize, mesmerized.
There’s nothing more powerful than being in close presence of the king.
Lions are efficient predators and are capable of consuming a significant portion of an antelope's carcass. Although they don't strip the carcass down to the bones entirely, they will consume the majority of the flesh, including muscle and organs.
Lions tend to focus on the most nutritious parts of the carcass, such as the muscles and internal organs, while leaving behind less desirable portions. They are not as thorough as scavengers like hyenas, who are known to crush and consume bones for their marrow content.
After lions have consumed the major portions of an antelope, scavengers such as hyenas, vultures, and smaller carnivores will often move in and help break down the carcass further, eventually leaving behind mostly bones.
