I would also enjoy meltdowns if Pod wins, so much so a little part of me is supporting it even though I would be one of those meltdowns.

Booktube would lose its MIND. I don’t know where a riot would take place when we don’t have any streets, but that’s what would happen 😂

Fave book of May was definitely Open Water 😊 Ooh I don't like the thought of the one about panic attacks (especially reading it whilst on a plane!) Glad you enjoyed Demon so much, still to start it here. I have small things like these on my tbr - will probably save it for shorty September 😊

Thanks for sharing Sarah! Open Water is definitely a book I admired a lot. It didn’t 100% work for me but I can see why it gets so much love, and I’m definitely interested in reading his new one. Exciting that you’ve still got Demon to come! Hope you enjoy it.

I read Picasso's War, (non-fiction) which I loved. Then I re-read Age of Innocence (5-stars). Then I read Trust (liked it 4-stars), and I read Billy Collins Musical Tables, a collection of short pithy poems. I am about 5 or 6 chapters in to Demon Copperhead and I'm about to DNF it. I detest books that fill me with dread. I'd like to know the ending but I don't want to read all the conflict to get to it. Maybe I'll just reread David Copperfield and extrapolate.

Love the variety! And such a treat that you enjoyed all of them. Shame that Demon isn’t working for you, but I can see what you mean. I am (for better or worse) a glutton for emotional punishment so I really enjoyed it 😂

I'm happy to hear that you liked Foster. This book made me a Claire Keegan fan since it came out. Her other books are short story collections. That's how she started.

That makes a lot of sense. I do wonder how Claire and her publisher decide what they’ll release as part of a collection versus what is released standalone. Both Foster and Small Things Like These are shorter than stories in collections I’ve read by other authors!

Interestingly, we are opposites on Foster and Small Things Like These. I thought Small Things was a perfect little story and felt myself wanting more detail and expansion from Foster. 😂 I hadn’t heard anyone go into such detail about Pod, and since I can’t say I’m inclined to pick it up myself, I appreciated your explanation of the story.

Hey Greg! Funny how these things can turn out… I think maybe the weight of expectation on Small Things left me underwhelmed. Perhaps I just went into Foster knowing better what to expect! And I’m glad my Pod thoughts were helpful. It’s a shame it wasn’t right for me, but it was certainly memorable 🐬

My independent bookstore has a list of reading prompts for the year. I am struggling to find a philosophy book. I am not interested in pages and pages of confusion. Do you have a suggestion?

Oooh interesting question! If you’re open to it being a novel, then Sophie’s World by Jostein Gaarder might be a good fit? It’s a Norwegian story about a teenage Norwegian girl that basically goes through the history of philosophy. I haven’t read it but heard wonderful things about it. If it has to be non-fiction, then Plato’s Republic is actually really readable and I enjoyed it a lot. Plus, you get to learn about things like the allegory of the cave and platonic (perfect) forms, which are ideas we still use today!

@@benreadsgood I just put a hold on Sophie's World. It doesn't say fiction or nonfiction.
