i've gone through this and split it into three sets - things I can currently train for by doing the progressions at the very least (if not the full movement) (currently about half), things I want to train after the prerequisite (and I can currently train some of the progressions for) (again currently about half), and things I'm not touching (handstand, handstand push up, L-sit). Let's see where I get after 6 months of body weight focus

I feel like way too many people dramatically underestimate how difficult handstands can be for true beginners. "Just practice on a wall" is pretty much useless advice for a lot of us, because it presumes that we already have the strength for a handstand, we just lack the stability, balance, and the nuances of technique. But many of us are not strong enough for this. How does one build that strength to begin with? What is the progression for a true beginner?
@ordinaryguy5332
Күн бұрын
Should build strength with regular pushups, inclined pushups and pike pushups first then against a wall try to kick up (don't try to hold by slamming ur legs into the wall or anything, just kick up and see if your arms are strong enough to support the kicking up and not bending at the elbows). If u could touch your legs to the wall for few seconds, u are ready to go for the journey, my friend. Believe me, u could achieve hs.

Brother thank you for the great video. I have a question. Because it's hard to learn all calisthenics skills mentioned in your videos year 1 and year 2 at the same time, if you're also doing the regular strength exercises like pull-ups and push-ups. So my question is you how many skills should you aim at learning at the same time? And once you completed a skill, how many times a week / month do you revise it so you don't lose it?
@STRIQfit
2 ай бұрын
Great question! Try to aim to complete all of the year 1 skills first. Year 2 will be a lot easier because you’ll understand your body on a whole other level. You’ll be up off the challenge. You could learn skills 1 at a time or even 3 skills at one time. If you’re going to learn multiple skills at one time then I’d suggest you only do one push, pull, and leg skill. After I’ve mastered a skill I refine the basics to fully understand the movement. Like pike pushups to prep for handstand pushups. I revisit at least once a week.

There is not a fast way but to make it simple you have to eat more protein and calories. You burn a certain amount of calories just by staying alive keeping everything inside you pumping. Then you add your daily living activities like walking, talking, etc. The amount of food you eat needs to be more calories than you are burning or you wont steadily gain weight.

Quads are known to cramp during the l sit. It’s common. It’s a tolerance that you build overtime. Even stretching wont completely alleviate what your body isn’t used too. I suggest steadily training and stretching them and that pain will overtime go away

As a young kid I had some severe asthma attacks and was proscribed doing head stands daily, supposedly to help eliminate phlegm. I progressed into handstands and by age 11 I could walk around on my hands for minutes at a time. A decade on an I became a national level decathlete. I taught myself flips and so on, having had access to a trampoline. I regret not having known about Calisthenics as it would have made me more proficient I'm sure. Appreciate the video.

Question for you; should single-bar dips be included here somewhere? I think it's a big prerequisite for the muscle-up.
@STRIQfit
Ай бұрын
The only reason I didnt include them is because the dip is usually not a limiting factor to mastering the muscle up. It is usually the swing and C shaped pull. I do not deny though that single bar dips can only help if you practice them

Question: I might be being stupid but you (@STRIQfit ) train both calisthenics and do bodybuilding right? Do most calisthenics guys do this? You can, if you want, manipulate the reps and sets of calisthenics exercises to optimise for bodybuilding but it is still inefficient in comparison with traditional weightlifting. Calisthenics can be used for strength and skill, but surely not for building muscle? Someone please enlighten me.
@STRIQfit
3 ай бұрын
Calisthenics can definitely be used to build a ton of muscle. When you’re first starting out and even further beyond you’ll see insane changes to your body that weren’t there before. After a while though you’ll have to incorporate another training style. Most people go into weighted calisthenics so they can keep progressing and put on more mass. Weighted calisthenics is things like weighted push-ups, pull ups and dips. You could also do some sort of weightlifting like I do for my legs days specifically.

What’s your remedy for alleviating wrist pain? Rotating the palms slightly decreases it, but it’s still intense for me. To progress quickly I assumed that I would need to practice more with less breaks, but that’s not possible due to the wrist pain. This video is great. I love the merit of your explanations and narrations, but it would largely enrich the content if you could also share how to progress. Should I get used to the pain or should I do the exercise in a form where I feel only a slight amount of pain and have patience until I have more flexibility to avoid any future problems?

Something I haven't seen explained is: how do you manage the pressure of all the blood going to the head in exercises like the handstand (even worse with handstand pushups)? Is it something that goes away on it's own by practicing? Does it have to do with breathing?

@STRIQfit
2 ай бұрын
Negatives are a great option. Try doing them with an incline. Work your way down to the floor with a lower incline as each level gets easier. Work towards 10 perfect before advancing to the next level. This way you’re still getting to practice proper form and you’re building up your joints for the real thing.

I did the regressions for planche front lever muscle up and hand stand pushup without doing a lot of this. I think doing most of these wouldve made the progression faster and given better prep for the body control. The only thing id add is doing buzzsaw planks with your feet in rings or a trx plus weighted body hollows helped a lot with front lever for me, im very tall and core would give before my lats. And dragon flags are a nice practice for lever too
