As another 6'4" individual, I am surprised that you eat so little. My maintenance is about 4100 and while trying to gain (which is currently the case) I'm eating 4400, though I am roughly 240 lbs.

Spencer Ferguson are you the same age though? Brandon’s metabolism ain’t the same as when he was a younger lad.
@spencerdf1992
5 жыл бұрын
@@jxlee91 The scientific literature does not support this interpretation of "metabolism", the research shows that the decline in the perceived "metabolism" due to age is purely due to a reduction in physical activity. As Brandon is an athlete, this does not apply to him.
@jxlee91
5 жыл бұрын
@@spencerdf1992 Oh is it...? I didn't know lol. So, how do you explain people who eat the same amount and the same foods at that as when they were younger while continuing the same amount of physical activity, but gain weight? This is assuming that their weight and body composition stayed the exact same for years until they got older? I only ask because this is what generally seems to happen, and did happen with me as well. As a matter of fact, I eat far less and far less "dirty" foods than I did when I was younger, but I've put on some serious fat. I definitely do way more physical activity now too. Thoughts?
@jxlee91
5 жыл бұрын
@@spencerdf1992 And to your point scientific literature does indeed show loss of physical activity as a major culprit, BUT it still also shows that the metabolic processes in your body do slow down as you age. Testosterone production also decreases as men age which is obviously a HUGE contributing factor to building and maintaining muscle and you can't deny that. Pretty sure a combination of all these factors will result in the need for less calories to maintain a higher body weight than when you're younger. I'm curious as to where you found this research.

fyi Brandon, the 'Protein Purity' content of that protein powder is not that good considering it is an ' Isolate.' In fact, it is more on par with your average Whey Concentrate. Basically all you need to do is divide the Protein content (25 grams) by the scoop size (32.4 g) which means you are only getting about 77% pure protein. A good concentrates has between 75-77% Protein Purity. This isolate is on par with a good Concentrate, not on par with a good Isolate. You should be close to 85-90% purity on an Isolate.
@BasementBrandon

Are you factoring in the 7g additional "outside" of the protein content for added BCAAs?
@rickviramontes2317
5 жыл бұрын
@@BasementBrandon BCAA's are naturally occurring in the protein powder itself. That is the make-up of protein (I.e. building blocks that help build muscle in the first place by consuming a protein powder.) Every protein powder should have BCAA's whether the company markets that or not, so I don't think your getting 'additional' BCAA's on top of what the protein is already naturally giving you.
@BasementBrandon
5 жыл бұрын
Rick Viramontes I’m aware. What I’m saying is they add more in (marketing gimmick or not), my point is if you take a look at the profile, the serving size is accounting for 25g protein AND 7g additional BCAAs
@rickviramontes2317
5 жыл бұрын
@@BasementBrandon I see. most powders don't do that. You typically get the standard naturally occurring 5-6 grams included in your standard scoop. If that's the case, then it sounds like your protein doesn't have the remaining grams (between scoop size and protein content) as "fillers."

luckily most of the research shows the upper limit of beneficial protein being around .87g/lbs of lean body mass. So for me that's about 175 at the max.
