Great video explaining all of the settings. I have a Wouxun KG-UV9GX and it didn't have a proper manual although I do have a spreadsheet explaining the various settings. I'll now fire up Chirp, I also have the extra CD and plug that I purchased for programming this radio. Thanks for your time and effort. I'm also thinking about purchasing a set of the Wouxun KG-935G Plus radios.

Wide gives you better range, but penetrates obstacles less. Narrow band is shorter range but penetrates better. So if you are in a crowded place, but close, use narrow.

Through extensive real world tests I have not found that be be true only in theory. Is there a very specific setup that would produce this result.... probably. For general use wide band is best.

The only handheld duel band radio I trust for Survival use is the Yaesu FT-60R radio. ✅ This radio uses a rechargeable battery pack and an optional AA alkaline battery tray.

thanks for going through these setting. it’s helping a little. I bought a pair of TidHD radios because… youtube people were really excited about them. I just wanted something I could talk from home to work with the wife, a few miles. but that thing is way too complicated. i’m not even sure how to get started. I haven’t even showed my wife because she’s just going to shutdown when she sees it. My area’s radio club doesn’t have a GRMS repeater listed on their website. So I feel like half the functionality of these fancy GRMS radios isn’t going to be used by me. maybe I should have bought a higher quality set of FRS radios instead…

GMRS radios really are not any more complicated to use simplex (radio to radio) then frs. If you are going a few miles you will not reach with FRS. remember you can set up your own repeater its really easy and also you can use a 20 watt base station radio in your car from the outlet this will give you alot more range then a handheld.

@@citizensurvivalplan interesting. maybe i should look into my own repeater. i have a two story house and could possibly put an antenna in the attic. I don’t want to be climbing my roof, so while the chimney would probably be a great place to mount something, I’m not interested in the climb.

Good job explaing all the ANI code stuff. I just wonder if there is some computer program out there that actually recieves and decodes all the DTMF tones? Because its pretty useless for a group of folks to use the features if they can't tell who is talking or in trouble!
@citizensurvivalplan

The kg 935g can decode them and the btech phone app can. I am sure that a computer program can too you will just have to find one.

4:42 it's actually the opposite, the narrow band would "reach further" but practically doesn't do much in your everyday transmission in vhf/uhf bands. What this does best however is save space, so an entire wide fm band can now be used by 2 different groups of people; and, what I actually believe the most important, is it saves you battery power in exchange for audibility. If you average the total power transmitted over WFM and NFM, NFM would be much more efficient albeit harder to understand the transmitting side. Imagine a 5w transmitter on 1st floor and a receiver on the 3rd floor, and getting a 59 signal report on WFM vs a 49 on NFM Did the narrow vs wide started with the AM vs SSB? Only on those modulations do I actually think it'd matter a lot.

There is a lot of great information in this, but a couple of things aren't clear: 1. What is CHIRPS? 2. What kind of things is DTMF generally used for? I can't think of many applications for it.
@citizensurvivalplan

1.Chirp is a free computer program you can download to program your radios from the computer here is a link.chirpmyradio.com/projects/chirp/wiki/Home 2. DTMF is prob something you will not use I really don't to be honest but like I showed in the video it can be assigned to a radio to identify the person/radio in distress if turned on for the alarm mode. This is was really included so I could cover every setting as most people working with GMRS really don't want to try and explain it. Thanks for this comment I hope this helps!

@citizensurvivalplan, You have explained the different menu items on this particular radio very well and easy to understand language. I see how the explanation is very similar to the menu items on a TidRadio TD=H3 which a lot of people are talking about in the forums. Thank you very much. Question: Do you have access to a TidRadio TD-H3 and can you make the procedure on how DTMF codes are programmed and used on the TD-H3?
@citizensurvivalplan

You need to do DTMF in chirp like I did in the video. Pretty much all the menu items I cover in the video on the btech/ baofeng radio are in the TidRadio TD-H3.
