I can explain a few things about the filters and their suppiers. The Wix/Purolator brand is now owned by the German company Mann/Hummel. They are the major supplier to BMW, VW, etc. They have had operations in Brazil for many years now, and they recently acquired Wix and Purolator, both of whom were out of North Carolina. That is why the filters are identical from those brands. The Supertech/Luberfiner filter is made by a company out of southern Illinois called champion labs. They are a major aftermarket supplier, particularly to mechanic shops, etc. They also make many of the ACDelco branded filters, for what that is worth. Evidently the Mobil 1 brand is now sourcing filters from Mann/Hummel. They used to buy from Champion but it looks like that has changed. I believe that Fram is independent. It was owned by AlliedSignal for many years and then Honeywell, but I think it was spun off some years ago. The fram can filters are US made but the cartridge ones all come from China. They used to be made in Korea but apparently the suppliers are now different.

I change my oil every 5k miles (Pennzoil Ultra Platinum synthetic). However, i change my filter every 2.5k miles (based on the fact that the filter is on top, it’s easy, cheap and provides additional long term protection). I listened to a Mercedes mechanic explain the rationale behind this technique (for vehicles with filter housings on top of the engine) and it made a lot of sense to me. It might be overkill but I will continue to utilize the Motorcraft 2062A for now!

I've put Mobil 1 synthetic in my 2016 2.7l, 60k miles. I'm thinking of changing to Pennzoil Ultra Platinum syn. Who knows if it's a big benefit being that we change our oil every 5k.

@@Hiker_Mike - Hi Mike! Switching to a different motor oil for 5k mile oil change intervals is still a good idea! If you get a chance, watch the motor oil test comparison video from KZitemr ‘Project Farm’. In that test (and several others) AMSoil was number one, followed closely by Pennzoil Ultra Platinum while Mobile One fell to mid pack!

@@Bacnow Yes, agree. I've seen some of the positive YT reviews on Pennzoil Ultra Platinum, I'll be switching on the next oil change. Thanks.

I personally think the best 2.7EB price/quality filter is the Bosch 3482. Which is the maker for the aFe 44-LF034 at 3 times the cost of the Bosch. ...Also, it's made in USA

We weren't able to find one of those at the time of filming. If I can get enough new ones together I'll film a Round 2 follow-up.

My first oil change will be Tuesday, 2.7L V6 EB. I plan on filter FL-2087 and using the 3 O-rings from FL-2062-A (Bronco). People here ok with this? Switching to the aFe filter after this. Thanks for your input.

I tried the SuperTech from walmart and it got stuck inside the filter housing. I broke off a plastic tab at the top of the housing getting it off. Had to order new filter housing. I have read another comment same problem.

It is so strange to see all of these filters, that are unlike the common oil filters like the Motorcraft FL820s, Fl-A1, FL-500 etc…? What engines will use these cartridge filters as discussed in this video? Is a conversion kit available, in order to utilize these one? Are these better than the spin on filters??!

The FL2087 is not intended for any vehicle with the 2.7/3.0 Ecoboost, and as such does not come equipped with the necessary o-rings and does not meet warranty requirements for vehicles specifying the FL2062-A. The FL2087's intended applications are for high volume high pressure situations, as those experienced by the GT350 and especially the GT500, running 50 weight oil at 7500rpm+ on a race track. These filters offer literally nothing beneficial to the 2.7/3.0 platform, do not offer an increase in filtering efficiency (same rating from Ford for both), and cost substantially more. Furthermore the FL2087 is a low volume part with historical price and supply instabilities, that have a direct impact on those REQUIRED to purchase the filter for warranty purposes (and there isn't an aftermarket alternative).
