I do exactly the same things as James does on the thumbnail and in the video but for some reason people act surprised and shocked... 🤔

Well, after having been through a lot of PT for a torn labrum, I do some resistance band exercises and bridges before heading out. I've prevented injury, pain, and I've been able to gradually run longer. Trying to keep everything strong to avoid needing any medical intervention on the torn labrum. It's more time for sure, but I am determined to stay injury free.

Like most mere mortals with a full time job, kids, house, garden, a wife, shopping, etc. I‘m glad when I can get to do the run let alone anything else 😅

I was pleased to see how similar this looks to my actual pre-run routine! Definitely not one-to-one identical, but it’s good to know I’ve got the right idea with some active stretching, hip loosening, and core activation.

Love the humor and approach for a busy or a lazy person from this video. This routine is a great compromise between not getting the warm-up at all and the boring 'proper' session from the books.

I do front and side legs swings, pull my knees to my chest and feet to butt. I used to do high knees and but kicks, with other skips, but to be honest I feel a little silly.

When I just are ready I remember, shit open up the hips prepare for running. I don’t do it every run but all the run who are quality workouts. If it’s like short z2 run I probably don’t do it if not my hips remind me. I also do deep squats with my arms up in “swimming position “. Some few things I do . If I got one interval workout or running competition like 5 k then I swing my legs . I don’t do the same every time. On the bicycle , after maybe 5 min bicycling, I do focus for one leg , without clicking out the , 10 left, 10 right,10 left ,10 right and resting leg just following around. This for waking up both sides so not one leg go for a holiday. I had much problem with my hip before, showed in the run but it was the bicycling who made it. New bike, new bike fit and focus that both side shall work equally solved the problem.

Warming up can be so boring & tedious but i pump my music, get focused, get my mind right & start slow/light. I want to warm up the body not shock it.

My problem is i am training for my first 21k and when i warm up or do any activity, that just drains my energy. Im sure its better for preventing injuries and warming up your muscles. But if I'd do lunges before running id only make it to 15k i feel.

😅 hey, there aren’t strict rules on who can use those poo bags. I don’t run too far from home but there are no bathrooms available & when you gotta go, you gotta go. 3 blocks will feel like an eternity!

Do not stretch before a run, you negate all the effect the warm up had. Stretching is something you can do at home to increase range of motion and tension. But not before or during the run.

I'm not advocating skipping them but I've yet to see any scientific evidence that warm ups do actually improve running performance or prevent injury. Lots of hypothetical benefits proposed by researchers, but very few have actually been borne out in studies. Most studies compare different types of warm up (rather than warm up vs no warm up) and find next to no difference. Of course, most elite athletes do warm ups and have incredible performances, but that doesn't conclusively demonstrate cause and effect because we don't know what their performance would have been without the warm up (and of course there are so many other factors that influence their performance, many of which are hard to measure). 🤓
