Gonna have my fitst "erm akshually" moment here to say the Herd was never supposed to be a conventional mystery. Heck, you could say it was never supposed to be a mystery in the first place since its there simply to ease in the viewers that there are actual stakes at hand and that Pericles was willing to go over and beyond for his goal. Marcys plan was to get the amusement park shut down in order to repurpose its metals and sell it for profit. It would get her money and out shine Velma. Marcy was a bullied kid who got made fun of for the scent that lingered on her after having to work for her fathers amusement park. It was a double edge sword- she wanted to stop the bullying and isolation she received from smelling like hot dog water, whilst also making a profit that would elevate her above those she hated.

Hey how about a ranking Scooby doo villains based on the effort they put into their monster? Like how much effort they put into making their monster costumes, puppets, special effects and actual practical applications. Like with the vampire Sheila made an effort to have some way to allow her to fly/glide, Char Gar Gothakon’s get up actually had the ability to emit powerful sonic shrieks, Man Crab was a literal robotic suit that gave Bud unique abilities when worn, the Mayan goddess had special fertilizer to manipulate plants, stuff like that where the criminals made an effort to make their monsters somewhat realistic, terrifying and/or legitimately threatening.

In the vampire’s defense, maybe she was a red haring for Fred’s dad being the CC freak, even though he had a lot more build up doing sketchy stuff so it’s not too surprising when he goes evil. Even saying that she was one of the most transparent villains. I liked the nightfright episode but fair enough that’s mostly from Vincent deghoul and shaggy and scooby I thought the gluten demon episode was funny because for once we actually see scooby and shaggy hit their limit: they had to eat half of the town’s pastry supply but they finally had too much…and then in true scooby fashion are fine the next time we see them. As a monster though it wasn’t very scary. Danny was genuinely creepy, good villain, excellent use of tragic backstory, and a parallel with Fred. Junk had a great mystery, but all and all I wasn’t a fan of his design. Loved man crab, epic design. “You’re Dead Right Mate”. Only problem I had with that episode was the point about shaggy and Scooby having no ear for music, that felt forced. It makes sense for Scooby since he’s a dog but not shaggy especially after the polka-caribou song connection in “junk”, and then he and Scooby finish off the group with a guitar duet which shouldn’t work if shaggy is truly tone deaf. Still enjoyed it except for that one detail. If you want to keep doing this pup named has some nice villains and it’s shorter.
@wickedblade4751
Ай бұрын
Tbf deaf/tone deaf people can still enjoy music. Did you ever see that girl on America's got talent who was deaf but learned to sing by using a pitch detector and practicing it a lot. I would also argue this wasn't the first time they did something like that. Remember Angel randomly showed up to save the gang in the aphrodite episode because she didnt have a sense of smell.
@user-cf6ee2ud2y
Ай бұрын
@@wickedblade4751 true they can still enjoy music, but my point is that shaggy has done a thing in the past that requires good hearing (hearing that the song in “junk” was slowed down polka music or reversed or whichever) and he played the guitar very well. As someone with musical training it’s possible to be good at music without intonation, but as you said it takes more training. Shaggy probably isn’t that tone def so it wouldn’t hinder him learning the guitar, but there’s a startling difference between the people who hear very well and those who hear average and those who don’t hear well, and if he’s so tone def he can’t hear the hypno-Rhythm in the song he wouldn’t play the guitar very well. Although perhaps shaggy can hear the guitar’s range fine but has trouble hearing low or high sounds, which could work (taking the polka into account it would probably on the high end). At the end of the day there’s a lot of explanations as to why it could work but for me it always seemed contrived. I still enjoyed the episode but that part, just one line, always rang false.

I wondered, when I first saw it, if the vampire episode was actually an homage to the old "Kolchak the Night Stalker" TV series. Fun fact: The Humongonauts are based off Sanda and Gaira, from the film “War of the gargantuas”, and old movie made by the company that made Godzilla. They are two monsters that are twins, and often disagree, fighting it out. So the fact that these twins, fight, and are in two similar costumes, is a massive refrence to War of the Gargantuas.

I honestly like the idea of the Shadowed Orc having a biker gang and a motive with a train with a shipment of high-class, but overly expensive video game consoles. But I guess you can't have your cake and eat it too, sometimes. Also, as a quick note on Danny Darrow, I think he might be somewhat influenced by the Scissorman from Clocktower, that of a ghoulish midget with a personality befitting a demonic child, with a similar locale mixed with Saw-like traps also befitting the area. And that ending to the episode is something you just can't look over as a twisted but fair ending to the mystery behind Danny Darrow and the Darrow manor.

The thing about the Horrible Herd, I think, is that theirs was one of several episodes of SDMI which were *intended* to deviate from the formula. Quite a few of the series' stories were intentional homages to particular subgenres within the field of horror and caper-story films, and not all of the subgenres that were emulated are necessarily mystery-driven. The Humungonauts were kaiju, or as close to kaiju as you need to smash up a small town rather than a big city. Darrow Manor was a trapfest a la the "Saw" movies, sans gore. Krampus was a long-con presented to gull the audience as to the protagonists' actual doings, a la "Ocean's Eleven". Que Horrifico was an excuse to do a siege-by-zombies story without the boom headshots. And the Horrible Herd was a straight-up B monster movie in the style of "Tremors", where outthinking the threat requires figuring out clever ways to *stop* real monsters, not unmask fake ones. Given that the writers knew the series was building towards a genuinely-supernatural climax, and thereby tossing ALL the old Scooby-Doo rules out the window in the end, it's entirely reasonable for them to mix-and-match the preceding episodes' styles and degree of realism a bit, while paying tribute to classic chiller and caper motifs that aren't necessarily franchise-specific. Frankly, I suspect it probably made the series more fun for them all to produce that way: you can only unmask Old Man Jenkins so many times without getting bored of it.

Scooby doo PIQUED with Mystery Incorporated I love how the characters are actually emotionally complex (at least for a kids show) Fred is a hyperfixated himbo who's entire development is him becoming more than just "I'm the mayors son, and I like traps and mysteries" with realizing the actual depths of his feelings about things besides traps and discovering what dating and love actually is, which meshes great with Daphne's character and arc of being WAY more than just a pretty face, and also actually turning her relationship with fred into something more real instead of just "they are dating because he is hunk and she is pretty girl". And don't even get me STARTED on Velma, Mystery Incorporated Velma is all of the late highschool early adult self discovery and expectation subversion "Velma" WISHES it was from her grappling with her toxic behaviors that stem from a feeling of constant need to prove herself, her trying to force herself into heterosexuality with shaggy and how disfunctional that is, her self worth issues, her actually caring about her friends and not just keeping them at arms length, UGH IT'S SO GOOD! And shaggy...well shaggy is mostly just comedic relief but he has his moments And scooby gets the most interesting lore yet for him as a creature! GOD DAMN I LOVE THIS SHOW!!?

Imma be real, I put on Foul play in Funland this morning before I watched this video. Charlie was just goofy and scurrying the whole episode. Only just having the iconic shot of him staring down scooby Good video though I love mystery Incorporated

The Dream Weaver's look was less creative than you think, for what I'm talking about Google Marvel Nightmare.

The wild brood are a reference to The Wild One starring Marlon Brando.

I agree The Fright Hound reveal made little sense but I loved the little Friday The Thirteenth reference with Jason’s mom being the culprit. I feel like this could’ve worked better if her scheme was different and someone else did The Fright Hound

The Ghost Truck feels like it could be referencing the Steven Spielberg film "Duel" where the premis is a guy trying to get somewhere (a work meeting I think) ontime but there is this truck that's trying to run him off the road. It sounds kind of lame, but is actually pretty tense as no matter what he does, whether waiting for ages in one spot in hopes the truck just keeps going on or speeding to try and out run the truck, he can't escape this truck trying to run him off the road. It has some great cinematography and is a great film. But the funny thing is when I went to watch it for the first time, I thought it was set and night in fog... I now think that that might be because of this Scooby Doo episode...

There is NO WAY you think that Baba Yaga is supposed to be the bigger threat than her house
