I started my golf career at Old Colwyn GC about 55 years ago. The course has changed little over the years but is now looking more mature with many more trees. There were also fences around the greens to stop the sheep from doing damage to the putting surfaces. I now live in Thailand and watching these videos of the courses in N Wales brings back many memories.

It's amazing the course is still going strong and shows what a good track James Braid laid. He made the most of the features and what was there (there wasn't much land to work with!). Those 3 oak trees are always a bugger to clear on the 7th hole but I managed it on this round! Thanks for your comment Nick, it made my day 👍👍👍

Great to see you back in the UK and doing course vlogs again James! As you say, a first round back to see where your game is at but you didn't make it easy picking a course with so many awkward lies! A couple of us played Old Colwyn this time last year based on your course vlog and the green were really poor but good to see it is in much better condition. We're playing Abergele and Holywell next week, again based on your course videos so looking forward to that. It'll be good to see which courses you play over the summer. Can I suggest you do a vlog from Silver Birch and St Melyd, as I'd like to see a shorter course. Also, there are two short ones in Flint that seem to have appeared so be good to see them too.👍

Cheers Johnny, they invested in the greens this year at Old Colwyn & fixed the drainage issues from 2022. So many courses to play in this area! I might play one in Flint but won't be doing Silver Birch again as I did that one 3 times already. Thanks for watching 👍👍👍

@@notaperfectgolfer3489 Good to hear they invested in the greens; you can see the improvement. I didn't realise you had already done silver birch, i'll have to have a look for that on your channel. Have you done holyhead on Anglesey? Or maybe you could do abersoch or porthmadog if you haven't already done those!

Things you often say/hear; I've said it once to myself, once to someone else and heard it 3 times this week - "Why didn't you do that the first time?". Welcome back James! Nice stretch of stress-free pars there. £10 is good value. I'd pay that tomorrow. I really like the courses you play.

Great to see you back James. 2 bad holes and 7 stellar holes, that's super impressive coming off a break. I'm camping at Lynn Gwynant early September, just at the foot of Snowdon. Can you recommend a good, not too pricey course around that area? I don't mind driving up more towards to coast as I'll play on my way back to Staffordshire on the Monday anyway. All the best, glad you're back and seemingly healthy :]

Cheers Lee. Depends on your budget and time you play. If you are playing early or late you can get on at many courses for £30 or under. Prestatyn's a good links course for £30 and for parkland Rhuddlan is the same price both after 3pm twilight rate 👍👍👍

@@notaperfectgolfer3489 Cheers James. I used to spend my summer weekends in Rhuddlan as both sets of my grandparents had static caravans there. Great times were spent playing in the castle, climbing the moat and eating the best baked potatoes ever at The Kings Head. I now have and Aunt and Uncle who live there and are members of the golf course. Perhaps I'll pay them a visit and try the course. I'll be sure to watch your Rhuddlan videos all again before I go. Thanks for the reply :]

@@bhughes1986 Cheers for that, I'll check it out, I'm pretty sure James has a video from Bangor. Yes, Llyn Gwynant is my fav campsite in Wales too. I'm a canoe/wild camper at heart, but when in Wales, that place ticks the boxes, nice to have a little lake for a paddle and a swim. Also, best pizzas in the world down the road at Beddgeleresfewsdfdsd, sorry, can't remember spelling, but the little place that does the ice creams as well. Saturday Snowdon, Sunday Paddle, Monday Golf. Everyone else will be heading home Sunday, but I figured I'd spend an extra day or two and get some solo golf in since I'm the only golfer in my camping/walking group :]

If you have clubs then definitely get lessons. If you can afford it get a lesson at least once a month. In parallel start heading out to some of the smaller pay n play courses. Loads in north wales.

Agree with bhughes. Play the cheapest courses in your area with cheap/2nd hand clubs & get a lesson to check the fundamentals (a good grip from the start is a must and held me back a lot). Maybe go to a driving range with Top Golf tracer if you have the option as it's fun 👍👍
