Imagine if, with Obi-Wan hanging on for dear life after being Force-pushed by Darth Maul to end their fight, Maul walks away because the war around him is lost. Obi-Wan jumps out of the hole and cradles Qui-Gon's lifeless body in his arms. Now, we have a setup for Obi-Wan's rivalry with Maul through the other two films. Maul killed his mentor, and Obi-Wan wasn't strong enough to kill Maul, and Maul will only become more powerful in the Dark Side. Now, we have something to look forward to, and we're rooted in Obi-Wan's desire to want to fight Maul again. Instead, what we got was George inventing a new villain in the second movie then inventing another new villain in the third movie because he wanted to kill the second new villain early in the third movie despite this second villain showing he's so powerful that he can stand up to Yoda. It just doesn't make sense.

That's why it was useless for Yoda to even try, Palpatine already won in the grand scheme of things before the fight even started. It's the Sith way for the apprentice to kill the Master, and I'm sure Palpatine was expecting that. As Anakin said to Padme he could overthrow them. I imagine he went into exile because he would have been easily killed by clone troopers as well as Vader who hunted down the remaining Jedi.

Palpatine didn't want Padme dead here. He wanted her to feel threatened so she could leave Coruscant and allow him to come into power without opposition as she was against the clone army. So, why would he want someone important like Jango or Dooku to try and assassinate her themselves? They would likely succeed or end up dying which at least increases the likelihood of his plan failing. Also, how would the Changer girl be able to assassinate Padme without the droid or the bugs? She wouldn't be able to just sneak in as the Jedi were guarding her.

Last Jedi was also quite Derivative of ESBs story structure but also tries to explore new ideas and themes as well as subvert the Audiences expectations and even though it didn't do it perfectly and I do think that the ideas could've been polished, it's really trying to do something new. @ I didn't say it was "too much". Since Palpatine already managed a few dozen resurrections in the Old EU, this is par for the course. That said, how the Force works has always been ill-defined at best. The first two movies made it seem as if Force users were simply space warrior monks who had some minor telepathy and limited precognition powers, with stronger users capable of telekinesis. The third movie implies that really strong, really evil users could shoot lightning, but that was more or less shown to be extremely rare and notable when it did occur. The Prequel trilogy starts really straining suspension of disbelief. Suddenly, the Force makes people jump good and have stamina on par with Olympic athletes (except when they don't). People can see important future events and can feel the Force guiding them towards that event (except when they don't). The Force can be used to create life (except when it can't).

Peter Shadow Does it really come out of nowhere? It’s shown to us that Anakin has had a long-standing infatuation with Padme that started as a childhood crush and evolved into much more within the ten year gap between TPM and AOTC. He’s also shown to be both emotionally unstable and socially inept and this line is just another example of that. It’s known that Anakin’s upbringing was extremely challenging for him as a result of his alternate upbringing making him incompatible with his peers as well as his greater abilities giving him an oversized ego. He was an outcast that entire time so he’s obviously been using the memory of Padme (who was 14 the last time they saw each other) as a coping mechanism for his awful situation. He’s not meant to be super confident and Padme even makes a comment at one point that the way he looks at her makes her uncomfortable. Its intentionally awkward.

A fucking space wizard frog is the leader of a cult of fucking war monks but that’s what your going to critique on being strange, the shapeshifter? Lmao. The attempts at padmae stopped because of the fact that the first attempt failed so Palpatine adapted his plan by sending her off world under the protection of the jedi. The whole reason he needs to do this is explained in the movie as plapatine needs a crucial vote passed to give him emergency powers that amidala would’ve been in opposition to. So by sending her off world and having the easily manipulated jar jar take her place in the senate he was able to get the vote passed and therefore no longer needed to kill amidala. @@bjornbiff that's what their relationship was loosely based off of. They aren't allowed to be in a relationship with each other so they try their best to hide it instead of trying to have a good relationship. They were both in their 20's in AOTC and ROTS, Anakin had no experience talking to a normal girl that wasn't somewhat affiliated to the jedi order. Padme likes Anakin basically just because of the same thing, she is a politician. She hasn't had any experience talking to men besides the people that were paid to protect her or served her as queen. They forced themselves to love each other and Anakin got way too attached. This was the main flaw of the jedi Order. They do not allow emotions that everyone has. Everybody is afraid at some point, and they didn't want to train Anakin because he was afraid?? no wonder he didn't trust them, they suppressed every emotion. Padme was his only way to finally bring out all of the pent up emotion. This is why he was really awkward, he just wanted someone to release his emotions

A few good things in the prequels: Ewan Mcgregor as Obi-Wan, Ian Mcderrmont as Palpatine, pretty good action, great memes. Also I feel like I wouldn’t appreciate the prequels if Clone Wars didn’t exist.
@gurpreetkhambra5160

Yeah, I agree. I genuinely think the prequels without knowing the clone wars are almost unwatchable for 75% of the runtime especially the first two. But the clone wars is fucking amazing. However, the issue is that when you take out the show the prequels become flat and lack any sort of emotional punch. I watched the prequels first then the clone wars many years later so I always know that without one of the greatest animated shows to back it up, the prequels are honestly not good. Also the memes made people think it's better than it really is as a story.
@jordonrobertson-towner6775

Okay but to be fair, the memes weren't a part of the prequels, it was a result of the prequels made by the fans. Hell in 2005 memes practically didn't exist yet.

Thing is, politics can be done right when written in a way easy to understand. George Lucas messed this whole thing up. How do you make a plot about Jedi saving a Queen who then escapes to Coruscant just to request help for saving her home? Couple that with poorly written Palpatine conspiracy to become supreme chancelor which could have been done better.

That's a retrospective statement at best, not a demonstration of past character, plenty of military leaders would make the same argument. Actually its an extremely common trope for characters who've been through war to do this, its utterly stupid to nitpick honestly since its such a common trope even before A New Hope. Its been in film making at least since the 40s and its been it books going back at least 2 centuries if not more. I'm fine with complaining about the films, I just wish people would stop with the stupid nitpicks.

It's funny, when regarding the term "Shakespearean," that in their time the plays of Shakespeare were celebrated for their ease of access. Like, yeah, the way they speak seems archaic and impenetrable to a contemporary audience, because language evolves over time and the way people spoke back then is worlds apart from how we speak now. Back in the day, though, any old commoner off the street could walk into a Shakespeare performance, and immediately be able to follow what was being said in a given scene. There were layers of subtext, but it was all presented in a very obvious way, using slang that would resonate with its intended audience. Even when the dialogue included words that were literally made up for the play, they were either blatant in their intended meaning (like "eyeball") or else clearly related to words people used in their everyday life. So basically, while people often use "Shakespearean" to refer to flowery prose, it should really mean "blatant prose full of double meaning."

Also, quippy puns and dick jokes. Being dead-pan and esoteric does not at all relate to Shakespeare. Best example, Titus Andronicus: Demetrius: Villain, what hast thou done? Aaron: That which thou canst not undo. Chiron: Thou hast undone our mother. Aaron: Villain, I have done thy mother.
