Nice build. We put a junkyard 400 and turbo 400 in my buddies. It didn't take long and he broke the rear. We got a 14 bolt from the junkyard. Had it narrowed to fit. No issues after that. Even with the 200hp shot of nitrous. It was running a 7.9 in the 1/8 mile.

chud327 hey man, I'm building me a truck for my first vehicle. I had a ton of questions to ask you if u don't mind helping me out. Was the transmission Manual? If it is/was what shifter did you use or was it already on the truck? I don't know much about the s10 but do they all have the one legger rearend? And my last question is do I have to relocate the gas tank when I put a muffler on the truck or no? Thanks for you help in advanced.
@chud327

Sorry, just seeing your questions. 1st - Mine was an automatic, but I used to have a 5 speed blazer with a 4.3. The V8 will bolt right up to where the 4.3 was. The rear ends are most likely going to be one leggers from the factory. If you do dual exhaust on one side, the tank can stay. I have done it both ways, but I prefer to leave the stock tank in the truck. I hope this helps and is not too late, thanks for watching.

hey a quick tip on bleeding your brakes,,next time your at auto zone buy you a a foot or so of wind shield wiper washer hose or some of the very small gas line that will cup over the end of the bleeder screw and hand to the ground or into a bottle and you can save the mess of it srpaying all over your rear housing and brake dust covers,,also if you can have someone to help you use a short enough piece of hose and let the end go down into a bottle of brake fluid and all you have to do is pump the brakes and release and it will take the air out,,long as the level in the bottle is above the hose it want let air get back in but requires the bottle to be close to the wheel cylinder.

this one is my favorite movie of all of them... this is the one I watch daily. I have found the 94-2000 s10 blazer has the tank in the right location for dual exhaust as well as the filler neck is on the drivers side. I am seriously considering that route when the weather gets better and now that I have a job I can afford some of the good things..what are the mufflers that you have on this truck, I like the sound. 69 camero looks good, but I am partial to the 15 inch z28. I have had 4 s10 in my life and all of them get the z28 rims
@chud327

Wow, you watch it every day, you deserve a big thanks. Have you entered my Swiss Army knife giveaway yet? It would be super nice if a real fan won it. I think all the Blazers had the tank in the back, which is perfect for the dual exhaust. I had Flowmasters, but I don't know what series they were. I have loves S-10 with the Z/28 wheels too, It is a great and inexpensive way to make the truck look so good. I have had, I think, 14 S-10s in my time. That is if I haven't forgotten about one or two... Please keep watching it, that is some of the best news I have heard all day. Definitely the best comment of the day and maybe even the week. I have already done or had 3 old school V8's. I hope to do a LS next time, if I ever do another. I put a 350 with a carb in my 98 s10. I regulated the fuel pressure to 7 psi. When first cranked my truck up, the fuel pump would just give like a 5 second burst of gas and that was it. So I wired the fuel pump to a toggle switch so I can keep in on when the truck is running. Should this method be fine or do you have another idea?

That is a great question and I would guess it would be fine. However, I have never dealt with this issue, mine just worked when the key was on. I had to move it back a bit and use the back holes in the front crossmember holes. Then drill two new holes for the back holes. I also slightly modified the mount a little. Nothing big, no welding, just a little drilling. I hope this helps and thanks for watching.

A 4.3 v8 does exist in the mid 90s it was deemed the mini lt1 motor as far as one being in an f150 by ford idk and that would be a crime to put a ford motor in a Chevy anyway lol but the chevy _4.3 v8 is not bad it's like a 305 just with reverse cooling and fuel injection lol

+Gavin Cayan There are a lot of variables that you have to know. Do you already have a truck? Do you already have the V8 engine? If you have either, you should be able to do it for 2K. Summitracing.com sells V8 swap kits for $500 - $600 and they have pretty much every thing you need but a radiator. If you look on Craigslist you can probably find an engine for $500. Did your truck come with the 4.3, if so you can use the stock transmission. If not you are going to need 2 or 3 hundred to get you a trans. Like you said, 2K could probably get it running and then put more money into it every couple of weeks to finish it up. I would think it would work. I want to see some videos when you get it done.

Did the 3:42 rear end drop your highway mph and rpm? And by how much? My 3:73 and turbo 350 scream 3000 r.p.m. at 55. And what gear locker set and part numbers please! Also I seen your motor mount plates were cut and you used the top hole, so did you have any issues with that being lowered into the frame? Like hitting the oil pan or fuel pump? I just drilled out my mount holes and it gave me 1/2 inch more clearance for my headers and stuff just didn't wanna go to low to sit the oil pan on the frame. Man you're a top mechanical engineer!
@chud327

I never got mine on the highway enough to test it, some one bought it before I got tag and insurance on it. However, when I went to 3.42, that was high than what it came with. It should have raised top speed and lowered rpm's. I don't know the locker numbers, it came in the rear end when I bought it. I know it was made by Richmond. I had no issues with oil pan, fuel pump, exhaust, or anything hitting. Thanks so much for watching and I hope this helps.

What do you have change to put In a 350 in where a v6 goes and does it bolt up to transmission
@chud327
5 жыл бұрын
If you have a 2.8, the trans will not bolt up. However, if you have a 4.3 it will bolt right up to a V8. Once you figure that out, you will need different motor mounts and exhaust. You should also plan on changing radiators and getting some electric fans. If you have to change transmissions, you may have to modify the cross member and find a different drive shaft. Good luck and thanks for watching.

Actually I was thinking about a swap in a 88 S10 Blazer where the wheel base is 100.5 inches. vs 108.3 Quite a bit shorter than a pick up. As is it's really a two hander to drive on the hwy even after the front end was aligned You have to be on it cause it's a quick turner. I know people do them all the time, but the added weight must be at least 220 lbs or more over the front end. After market brakes would be advised to be able to stop the thing too. Good videos you have on your channel. I used your formula to figure out my rear end ratio ( 3.08 ), so I could give the information. to Gear Venders Under Over Drive to order the right combo for my 1986 Chevy K10. It will really help that wide spaced gearing it has in the Muncie M-465 Thanks for the info

Hey man, you replied to me a while back and answered some queations for me on my search for a s10 bc I had sbc 327 laying around needing a home. I finally found and bought a truck in excellent condition with blown motor. I have another queation. I bought a 94' single cab gmc sonoma. 2.2L 4cyl 5 speed. What trans should I use from the choices I already have in my shop. A 350 turbo automatic that came out a 1980 corvette. Or should I keep it manual and use the 5 speed trans thats already in it. Seen that you can use that trans bc they sell a bell housing adapter for these swaps so that tranny can bolt to the v8 motor. I think having it 5 speed would be more fun but I'm wondering if the stock trans in it now will hold up if I bolt it to a v8 motor. I dont know anything Bout those transmissions in them early 90 models s10s. If they are good, strong, just ok etc...... If you dont respond ill know its bc you got tired of reading this long ass comment so I wont hold it against you if you dont make it this far down.. Lol..
@chud327
6 жыл бұрын
I put a 350 in a 93 4x4 blazer that had a 4.3. I didn't need an adapter and everything bolt right up to the V8. However, it would not shift quick like I would have liked it to. If I were you, I would use the 2.2's 5 speed behind a V8. I would want a 5 speed out of a vette, Camaro, or Firebird, but that would be about $1000... the turbo 350 would work great and you already have it, but you would have to get a shifter and transmission cooler, which could be money that goes toward a better 5 or even 6 speed trans. The adapter would probably be kinda high and that could be more money used toward the better trans. It is just what ever you want to do really. BTW, I am so jealous that you have a 327. Keep me updated on what you decide...
@allthingssilver7635
6 жыл бұрын
chud327 Thanks for responding! Yea so the turbo 350 trans. I have come out my step dads vette bc he put a manual 4 speed trans in it. So i have the 350 trans and shifter already. Thinking I could go to a pick and pull yard like LKQ and get a trans cooler cheap. So sticking that automatic trans in it would probably be cheaper as I only would need a trans cooler.. Then when I found out I could make the 5 speed manual trans that came in the truck already work it got me thinking if I should do that instead bc originally I was planning on putting the 350 trans in it. I guess now my only concern is which trans is better and will last longer. The 350 will bolt right up but then my truck will be automatic. The trans in it now I can make work so I can keep the truck a manual but wondering how long that trans will last taking it from a 4 cylinder motor and bolting it to a v8 motor. Don't wanna buy the bell housing to make it work then destroy the trans bc it can't keep up with the v8 ya know? And yea I got lucky running across the 327. Guy had a 64 impala and wanted a 454 put in it. He let me keep the 327 that we pulled out of it.

I have a '88 shortbed with 4-popper and planned to do about the same, I have a 283 I plan to use, don't really need a race truck but with Vortec heads and some other modern upgrades it should run fine and be easy on the gas. I don't want a 10-12 mpg vehicle but I do want more power than the anemic 110 hp 4 cylinder, lol. I like the idea of the VW gas tank- from what model did yours come from? That's a lot better than mounting a tank in the bed. What size lowering blocks did you use? That's the other thing I wanted to address. Also- did you use another stock size rear end or did you go to a 8.5? I read where you can put a Ford 8.8 right under these trucks and just get a u-joint to convert. Those are tough rear ends. I have a guy offering me a Eaton posi-unit for the stock 7.5 and I am quite sure that would suffice for a mild motor, even a 350 engine with an automatic. Also I see most guys remove the entire front end but looks like that can be avoided. Thoughts? Thanks for the post.
@chud327
8 жыл бұрын
+petersdraggon YOu are welcome, it is what I do. I will try to keep my answers short yet complete, sometimes I run on and on. I love a 283, that is what I want in my next V8 S-10. I have had 3 with V8's. (14 all together) I love those little things. I either want a 283, a 327, or a LS1 or LT1. All would be pretty good on gas and the LS1 will probably never happen, but that would be oh so nice. I like the VW tank it came from either a '69, '70, or '72. One of those, they all about the same. If I could go back I might just keep the stock tank, but they would not work with the dual exhaust I had. I used 3" blocks in the back and nothing but engine in the front. It was a stock s10 rear that some one had put a richmond locker in. 8.8 would also be good if it fits - I don't know. Eaton should be all you need for a light weight s10 pickup. I did not want to remove the front end, there is not a real need to. I did a Blazer that had the radiator core out, that was nice, but not necessary. Check out my Blazer video and let me know what you think - kzitem.info/news/bejne/maFrsKiccqmgjYY

Are you talking modern 5.3 vs. old school 5.7. I think they will both bolt up to the same transmission, if your is a 4.3. I haven't done a modern 5.3 swap yet, but I think it would be well worth it to do. They would probably both take about the same amount of work. 5.3 may be initially more expensive to get, but again, I think you will be well pleased with it performance and reliability. Thanks for watching and let me know what you decide.

@@chud327 Thanks for the response, both the 5.3 and 5.7 would be between model years 98- 2002.
