@CaliforniaCheez are you joking? You are so ignorant and frankly stupid! These innocent people were kidnapped, forced to spend six months lying in their own waste on a horrible slave ship and then made to spend 18 hours a day doing back-breaking work in fields for nothing. They were beaten and killed and had possibly the worst lives you could imagine. I can't believe that you are trying to excuse the disgusting horrific behaviour of slave owners. this was a well crafted commentary on stealing a fellow mans wages. This story was not unique but ubiquitous to the condition of mans' fall from grace and subsequent historical inhumanity to man. Who should feel guilty of this crime against fellow humans? EVERY ONE OF US! Lets move forward and give all of Gods' children a chance to rise. We have no say in how we are born--with the gift of an American perspective, and hard work; proper mentoring from concerned parents--we may make progress. Life is not fair..But if we follow the great commandment: 'Love your neighbor as yourself' good results will follow.

In Jamaica Slavery was banned in 1838. But indentured Servitude was not. The British imported Chinese and Indians because freed slaves refused to work on plantations. Indentured Servitude is close to be Slavery but is not. People work long days just as the slaves did. Treatment was somewhat better for indentured servants but not by much.

Maybe you kids could watch this and be grateful to even be allowed to have an education, as enslaved people were not. It was even illegal for them to know how to read. Be happy you're not living like this. Slavery ended around 1860. That was only 160 years ago. Let's say your grandparents are 60. Their grandparents lived around then. Not so long ago, eh? And it went on for over 200 years. Though to be fair, this video is terribly done.

It was a hard life by modern standards. But it is more valid to compare it to free field workers, who had similar labor and hours. Or, you could compare it to the lives of those who remained in Africa, in the same time period. I don't think any of them had an easy life, and none of them lived as well as a wealthy plantation owner would. It was a class difference, just as there is now between working class and big farm business owners.
@Gorehoundula
2 жыл бұрын
Yeah. Being branded and chained together like cattle, whipped for resting for five seconds, hanged for running away, and forced to watch your three-year-old enter their long life of thankless labor and torture, all for the crime of being from the wrong continent with the wrong skin color at the wrong time really is only somewhat worse and more degrading, than, if not about equal to, being a peasant farmer or living in Africa having avoided kidnapping by the slave trade and only looks as bad as it was because we have iPhones now. Good observation.

It wasn't all bad. There were good people back then too. People who treated their slaves with some dignity. They knew that people that are treated better will work better. Just like there are people of all kinds today. Try and see life through the eyes of people of that day. Jefferson knew it was an insult to the Constitution to have slavery here and inevitable that it would end someday. Freeing them overnight would have devastated the economy and they knew it. It was slowly becoming apparent that the morality of it slapped in the face the meaning of freedom. We finally ended it almost a hundred years later.
