@@siddharthverma1249 There's a difference between economic mobility and the idea that everyone can be rich, at least using the definition he seems to be using based on context. Specifically, someone that can have all their material desires met without the need to sell their labor. It might be true that ANYONE can become rich, though I would dispute that, but its ridiculous to believe EVERYONE can become rich. The issues here are: 1) If you try to make everyone rich you run out of resources. (This is why he talks about asteroid mining, automated nuclear power stations on the moon, and fucking Dyson spheres.) 2) If you try to make everyone rich you run out of labor, (This is why he talks about robots doing all the work.) 3) The time frame of 5 years is bonkers, maybe in 200 to 300 hundred years we can resolve problems 1 and 2. More likely he's off by a minimum of 1 order of magnitude and probably closer to 2. 4) He makes a massive assumption that everyone has the capability of becoming a programmer or engineer with complete disregard for research to the contrary. So yeah, you can become rich, or I can become rich, or Jenny from the block can become rich, sure. But the idea that all 7.5 billion people and growing can become rich isn't realistic.

Can’t just dump a bunch of money at education and expect it to stick. Lots of people will drop out or have breakdowns. Plus didn’t he also say no socialism? Mind you the emergency services infrastructure etc. is socialized. But no socialism... makes no sense. No Loving-Kindness There was an old woman in China who had supported a monk for over twenty years. She had built a little hut for him and fed him while he was meditating. Finally she wondered just what progress he had made in all this time. To find out, she obtained the help of a girl rich in desire. "Go and embrace him," she told her, "and then ask him suddenly: 'What now?'" The girl called upon the monk and without much ado caressed him, asking him what he was going to do about it. "An old tree grows on a cold rock in winter," replied the monk somewhat poetically. "Nowhere is there any warmth." The girl returned and related what he had said. "To think I fed that fellow for twenty years!" exclaimed the old woman in anger. "He showed no consideration for your needs, no disposition to explain your condition. He need not have responded to passion, but at least he should have evidenced some compassion." She at once went to the hut of the monk and burned it down.

But that's a matter of scale. Unfortunately, because of the energy in it, when it fails, it fails hard. The steam engine failing wouldn't kill 10,000 people, but it also can't provide the same energy as efficiently as a power plant could. The power plant is more dangerous, but produces more power. What we need is research so we can reduce that risk, and have just the power.

Anyone can learn something if they spend 10'000 hours trying, failing, iterating and working hard. IQ only measures speed, but everyone has a moldable brain and everyone is capable of neuron genesis and growing new cells. IQ is an excuse for laziness. Your average IQ throughout the day can fluctuate an entire standard deviation(15p aprox.) depending on if you're tired, dehydrated, malnourished, stressed, etc. So I wouldn't put much emphasis on it, personality and grit is by far the most important trait.

@AJeazy

And In 30 years investing 20,000 a year at 7% you have over 2 million. 35 years and you're awfully close to 3 million. But It's actually better to do it on a monthly basis at 1667 instead of an annual basis at 20000 you'll get to a million in 21 years instead. And of course how much you make isn't going to stay at 40,000 a year forever. It should go up as time goes on too so you could start investing more than 1667 a month. And honestly the 7% isn't even the best you can do that's just the average. If you're active in the stock market and know what you're doing you can get higher returns than that. I gained 5% in the stock market just in the past month.

If you have 110 bucks you can join a discord group named aristotle where they teach you and tell you the plays they make in stocks. It took me around 2-3 weeks to learn and I joined the group and turned $500 into 12,000. No bs. Its one of the easiest ways to become rich and I’m proof. Not really. That implies there is a set amount of value in the world that can be harvested by humans. A good analogy would be if there was one mango tree in the world. Then there are only so many mangos to go around. But if more people showed up and planted more mango trees soon enough there could be more mangos than anyone could possibly eat. Only when the earth ran out of space for mango trees would the overpopulation of humans start to outweigh the space for mango trees. With ai and robotics and mega farming practices we as humans have 1000s more mango trees than we had a 100 years ago. So if everyone knew how to pick mangos, there wouldn't be a problem with everyone being mango rich. I like mangos.

Wealth is relative. If everyone had the same amount of wealth it would take away the negotiating power of money, which is why the wealthy prefer to keep the poor down.

You're right, if everyone was "wealthy" the lower earners wouldn't be called wealthy. But, it IS possible for everyone to have enough money to be able to comfortably fulfill their basic needs and enjoy their life E.g. eat well, go on some holidays, buy nice clothes, drive a decent car, etc. And the wealthy simply engage in more luxury versions of the same things. There is no need for there to be poor people, not just relatively poor but actually struggling and having financial stresses. In Ancient Athens people were relatively wealthy and had lots of free time to pursue arts and pleasure. This was mainly because they had slaves to do all the menial jobs. When AI gets good enough, we can have robot slaves take the place of these human slaves and it will actually become possible to eliminate poverty. It will happen eventually, no doubt. Exciting times

@@queball685 in a rational system that was designed for the good of the people i would agree with you, but that is not where we find ourselves. If people have their needs provided it removes the absolute despirate survival value of money and thus its purchasing power. the wealthy can buy more with their money if people need it more. this is why we see manipulated exchange rates and workers paid pennies an hour in countries, to provide a cheap international labor force.
@queball685

@@pjkempen7413 i see your point. But I'm not talking about a world where we eliminate inequality. There will still be extremely wealthy people and considerably less wealthy people. But when AI robots drive down the price of goods, it will drive down the price for everyone, so we don't need humans desperate for money to work for cheap labour because these AI robots will provide even cheaper labour (otherwise they would never be replaced) but luxury goods will still cost more than normal goods. So although the equality gap may fall, the rich will still have much greater purchasing power than the non-rich

T0PSECRET When people finally get wealthy they become greedy and power hungry. It’s like the old saying “ you’re progressive when you’re young and become conservative as you get older”. I know many people who were all about taxing the rich during their college years but when they finally started making a six figure salary they did a complete 180 and now hate higher taxes and think the poor don’t deserve help cutting social programs.

"Let's give them all what they want; let's get them all rich". Proceeds to do a Sam Harris thought exercise. What if one doesn't want to be rich? What if all one wants is to be free from worrying about sustaining his/her basic needs and contribute positively to his/her community?
