When I first purchased my townhome, the living room alone had 6 different paint colors (picture niche central for the fireplace wall and then 2 colors for the surrounding walls) as well as 4 types of flooring on the main level (golden oak in the entry triangle and kitchen, carpet in the living and dining, and then two different laminates for the CONNECTED half bath and laundry room). I didn't have much left, but new tiles floors throughout, and a singular paint color made all the difference. My now husband didnt even recognize the place when he came over as he had seen the before photos. Other renovations have followed over the last few years, but i will always remember the feeling of having it all "match" and i was in heaven.

I have a hard time getting on them, and they are very uncomfortable unless there is a foot rest so my legs aren't dangling and falling asleep. My house is only 690 ft.². When I updated it the thing I knew I would absolutely do no matter what is new flooring. I hated the linoleum and the carpet so I put in LVP. I know people hate that stuff, but I can’t afford real wood flooring at all. I’m doing this on a budget. Thank you very much :-) but the fact that the whole house has the same type of flooring is so nice. And it’s low maintenance for my dogs and cat.

After I moved from my mid century ranch with daylight basement, the new owner painted the stone front. It was an Ashleigh cut stone that is a bit porous and should not be painted. I learned this years ago while traveling in England---when they paint stucco or stone they use a lime wash so the stone can breathe otherwise it turns to dust. The three fireplaces had also been painted . 😢

Yes you look fabulous on my 75" television screen! Blue is your color. I had hot pink shag carpet in my childhood bedroom with rake. I think my mother was going through her psycho hippie phase as it was absolutely awful but the rest of the house was just beautiful. What I hate that others do is clutter and junk- making a huge fuss over something mass produced. Think tchotchkes and other nonsense. I do not want someone going through my house when I die and asking why I kept something so ugly or laughing at my decor. Keep away from trends and fast fashion decor. Excellent job as always Garrett! ☺️😍😊❤️🥰☀️🌴🦩😍😍❤️❤️🥰🥰

Speaking of barstools, restaurants with bar-height freestanding tables nowhere near the bar. Madness. I'm quite obviously short, so boo to that one host that one time for sitting me at one, because after I tried and failed to get into the seat, I had to call them back to sit me at a lower table. That's unnecessary friction for a business transaction, and it's unnecessary for home.

I have the two-level kitchen island that you pictured. I would prefer to have a counter-height island, but can't afford to replace what I have. The gas cooking surface is actually in this island on the lower level. It has a button that you push, and the exhaust element rises up out of the granite. Anyway, I agree with what you've said about barstools -- I hate climbing up on them myself. That said, I have noticed that although there is a table with chairs in my breakfast area, guests seem to gather on those barstools (they have backs) so that they can look easily into the kitchen while I'm finalizing hors d'oeuvres and drinks.

YES!!! Our TV is on the side wall when you first come in, but the first thing you see when you walk in the door is the artwork lining the hallway. I had never considered painting the tv wall black, I might do that. I'm not a fan of red brick. Our house is faux red brick on the front. We are looking into limewash as it allows the brick to breathe. We don't have the money to replace the faux brick and it's starting to look a little rough in some areas. But limewash/ replacement are way down the list of things we need to do. Love your video as always.

Thank you for the mention of vintage wool rugs. Too often interior designers push only neutral, new, rugs. When we moved into our house the brick fireplace was painted white. I took five colors of red and painted it to look like red brick - people couldn’t tell it was painted.

The brick fireplace in the living room of my 1917 Craftsman bungalow was painted at some point in the 90 years before we purchased it. Then someone in the late 80s or early 90s slapped the most hideous brown tile on top of the brick. I pried the tile off, and the brick is a huge improvement--but after trying multiple techniques to remove the paint from the brick I gave up. (As best I can tell, the most effective method is sand-blasting--but (a) it costs a fortune and (b) I'm quite sure there's lead based paint under there, and I'd rather not have sand-blasted lead dust floating around my home.) So if you walk into my home and hate the painted brick, please know I did my best.

TV story that might make you LOL. My bedroom was in the front of the house and to get nice cross breezes I had the windows open (San Diego) and used verticle blinds which could be partially open to allow those breezes and still give me privacy. There was a cable channel I watched quite often that would switch to soft (and sometimes not so soft) porn on some days at about 10:00 pm or so. I would usually watch TV and fall asleep to it around 9. I would wake up around midnight or so, kind of surprised at what I saw, and change the channel. This happened quite often. One day I was on the sidewalk out in front to discover to my horror that my TV was clearly visable from the street. No one ever complained, but it did make me wonder how many of my neighbors were treated to a "show" and what they must have assumed about me :-) Lesson learned!

I have an LVP white tile in my kitchen. When I redo the floor in the rest of my house, it will be LVP but look like wood. Probably match the bathrooms to the kitchen, but only because I don’t want too many types of floors. Right now, I have the LVP in the kitchen, cheep pergo wood in most of the house, and vinyl linoleum in the bathrooms. The previous owners wanted to remodel, but used the cheapest materials possible. I don’t have a large budget, but I am trying to make the house look nice.

Thanks for today's content. It was a pleasure to watch over my morning coffee. 5 years ago I moved into a charming little cape cod style home that has good bones and a lot of character, but was horribly dated. Red/yellow/green wall colors, paisley wallpapers, sea foam greens, old plush carpeting, brass fireplace doors..Blekkkk! Transforming it from circus tent to sophisticated has been a slow process. I had to learn my design style, how I would be using the home, respect it's natural charm and spend a lot of time envisioning spaces even if it meant leaving areas a blank canvas for a couple of years. It's tempting to rush off to a big box store and buy a bunch of items to decorate with but resisting was worth it. Tearing out the old carpets, restoring the hardwood underneath, giving the entire house a neutral palate and taking time to wear the house and allow us to get to know each other has been an exercise in patience throughout the design process. Establishing routines, discovering how my husband and I use the house, which pathways we walk each day, and also seeing how guests use it too has helped. Learning which areas people gravitate towards and like to gather, what kind of entertaining we do. There were so many times I thought I had a solid decision only to change my mind again so I'm glad I didn't go out and buy a bunch of stuff at once. Watching channels such as yours has been a valuable resource as I allow inspiration to come in bits and pieces. Fun fact, I'm not a patient woman, so it hasn't been easy and there's still so much to do but I'm enjoying the journey. Thank you for all the ways you've contributed to my inspiration over the past few years.

Old family furniture, stuff from when I lived and traveled in Europe and here and there a bit of Ikea.

Hi Gina! It would be great to speak with you. After you book the consultation, you can then send pictures you want me to review prior to the consultation to my business email address listed on my channel page. They will be forwarded to me.

@@GarrettLeChic Thank you. It is going to be a while. I am still waiting for the houseboat to get here. Then the furniture has to come, but I have learned so much about transporting things on the water. I am so excited to live on her again. But I am trying to look ahead to positive decorating.

I adore and want a brick house! I can’t stand grey floors, grey walls and white trim. I’m also tired of completely open concept. I like “open flow” but walls have purposes.

I’ve wondered why the HGTV remodelers paint brick so often. Crazy.

My Frame tv is one of my best investments bc tvs are such an eye sore.. it has art playing on it all the time and had no choice re. placement. When people walk by they can see Van Gogh or whatever.. as a real estate agent we hate showing the house with the stripper poles and Shrek playing 😂😂 I traumatized myself with a shag carpet and after watching your channel I realized I was kidding myself. My husband has the HEAVIEST step and he ruined the one in my bedroom. Oh well $2k down the drain. Don't make my mistake people, you do not want the shag rug

Sorry to hear that! I do love the frame TV. We have them.

I think shag carpeting came about because of the trend for Scandinavian design in the mid twentieth century and the traditional Scandinavian rya rugs had a long shaggy pile

Wonderful advice. So well articulated when you said: “Tell me the story of your life.” Yes, truly your home should tell the people who walk through your door “this is me/us.” You had me laughing with the story of your neighbor’s house with the red vibe 🤗 🌸

I don’t care for a television in a living room and I can’t stand them above the fireplace. If you want to put a TV in a living room, then put it in a cabinet and shut the doors when you’re not watching it.

Not really. Very quiet guard gated community. Nice people you hardly ever see.

Thanks so much! Most every material can be very nice depending on the space and decor. I would have to see your space to give an intelligent opinion. In design, every situation is different.

Agree 💯 percent . TVs need to be disguised or covered when off. They are ugly.

Thank you for saying no to painted brick and wood trim especially in older homes!!!! I don’t understand this trend to make natural materials look like plastic. Buying an older home and “updating” it by destroying every ounce of charm and character in it makes no sense at all to me.

Good Morning handsome person☺️ Wow that idea of a black wall for the tv was awesome. I buy it😍 If you walk from my front door you can see the French doors opened into my green backyard and I love that view, like walking towards the nature 🙃 You are a good story teller and that’s for me is a big win win. Agree with the shag rug and trim/brick painting. I wasn’t aware of why nots before meeting you, not that I have them, but totally buy the reasoning. OMG I like that : we vibe, I don’t like these bar stools at all…loll children are beast 😝😝😝 All in all I agree to everything that you mentioned and what I dislike to see when I enter the house is the chaos near the front door because for me that’s where my journey starts to you and your home 🙃 Thank you so much for today’s vlog, it was cuteness overload and I love that for me. Stay healthy, stay blessed, stay loved🤗🥰♥️

Thoughts on armoire for TV? I’m feeling pretty dated but hate having it out.
