As a builder and real estate investor living here for 14 years. Every week people contact me about building a barndominium, and every conversation begins with, “if you don’t own land, do not buy it in Allen County, move to a different county if you can”. The dirty secret is every building contractor charges customers more money to do the job in this county due to planning and zoning and the building department.
@LivingInFortWayne
Ай бұрын
@@barnandhome It’s funny you mentioned that. One of our clients, who moved here from Georgia, mentioned that the expenses that builders incurs from the development of land (all the things) are eventually paid by the end buyer. Like more so than normal. It’s hard to explain through text but essentially the cost of the land isn’t really that much it’s the development of it. Apparently it’s not exactly as the same in other states. So that part must be true

We are considering the Leo-Cedarville area but as people of color we do have our concerns. Currently, we are just west of Chicago and want a slower pace. Our plan is to retire within the next two to three years and we will continue to consider the FW area. Though the cost of living has gone up it is still significantly lower than the Chicago area, so we shall see what happens.

@@LivingInFortWayne . Thank you, I will do that. By the way, I have noted it appears lots of new homes in the FW area are being built without basements. Is this a trend? I'd rather not have a basement, but in the Midwest it seems essential.

@@terence4427 Builders have cut down on building new homes with basement because it drives up construction costs. There are still some, when they are available, they go very quickly. For example Marcella is a subdivision on the north side of town, their homes with basements are $380k+ The other option is to get with a …what I call tier 2 builder. And work with that builder to build what you want.

I love KZitem because of the variety. But this is one of those videos that is not only incorrect but a video that was made for the sake of making a video. Proven by #10 🙄 The cost of living has gone up everywhere and it's still cheaper to live here. I have no idea what you are talking about in terms of traffic. You've apparently never been to Columbus Ohio. It's pretty much the same here as it has always been. In the summer it can be a little worse because of construction and it can be for downtown because of all the events and festivals as well as the farmers market. Which leads me to my next point, there's plenty to do here. And integrating shouldn't be a problem. FTW is the second largest city in the state so if you moved here for a quiet simple life and didn't get that that's on you. You can move a lil further out or to a smaller town just outside the city. No one moves to a city for a quiet life. All public schools suck but we all know it's up to the student and parent. I know plenty of people who have gone on to college after graduation. Not to mention all of the training available for trades. The crime. Yeah where isn't there crime. Oh wait MOST of FTW. Seriously it's all in one part of town. If you don't go to that part of town you won't encounter crime. It's the ghetto. If you have the money to relocate your not going to relocate to the poorest part of a city with drugs and run down houses. These two are in their office downtown. I live 10 minutes north of this office and two more lights north of me there aren't even cops because nothing happens out here. Jobs, I'm told by the 20 something's that there are a lot of tech jobs here. We have 2 Amazon facilities that have provided a ton of jobs. There's also a huge data center project in the works. This used to be an industrial city and then pretty much all of them closed and since then we've been making the switch to tech and pulling in larger companies to our area. This video is dumb. I've never met a person who moved here and regretted it or regretted it so much they left.
