I lived on Green Lanes for best part of a decade, one of the reasons I stayed that long was for the food. Many of the Turkish joints were open 24 hours and you could get breakfast (Pascha soup with lamb, yogurt and garlic) and kebabs absolutely off the chain. The prices have gone up a lot in recent years as the area has become more gentrified. They're still good, though.

'German Doner Kebab' isn't really the same as the typical British kebab. As the name states, it's a German kebab chain, serving German-style kebabs, and the waffle-looking bread is what they use. In typical Kebab shops in the UK, they use pita bread, or even naan bread, and the doner meat is made with lamb, not beef. You can get chicken and shish (lamb) kebab as well, but these will be skewers of marinated meat that are grilled. This is all served with salad and your choice of sauce. And the chili sauce is like the kind you got from Morley's, but each takeaway will typical make their own. So yeah, you haven't really had the authentic experience, but perhaps you prefer the German-style of kebab.

Drop the requisite 10 pints before having a kebab at 01:00. Nothing better unless you cannot finish it due to inebriation, but then it's edible cold the next morning. Not as good as a cold vindaloo though

Doner and Chips is such a good combo. It's a shame they didn't sauce it up for you tho. I usually go with ketchup on the doner meat and mayo on the chips. It's a wild combination

I haven't had it for a long time but doner meat and chips is my go-to at a kebab shop. The key is finding a kebab shop who have 'decent quality' meat (as much as it can be) and at least half decent chips. When I have bought a good, generous doner meat and chips I've struggled to eat it all.

If you ever get to Canada, you have to try the "donair". Inspired by doner kababs, it's a wrap containing meat (beef, chicken, and/or lamb), tomatoes, onions, and "sweet sauce", which gives it a tremendously unique flavour.

Before you leave London Ben, please visit the seven stars , 53 Cary Street. It really is one of the very oldest pubs in London. It’s tiny and the food is amazing. Get there at 12.30 as the food sells out very quickly and when it’s gone, it’s gone.
