One of my favorite things about this movie is the deep message within characters doing weird stuff before they become someone else. That’s exactly what the movie is telling us: Every time you take a chance on life, to do things differently, you open the door to becoming a different version of you. It’s a crazy way of presenting it but I think it’s genius.

this movie is in fact everything, everywhere, all at once. never has a movie lived up to its title before imo. who knew that a movie featuring talking rocks, hot dog fingers, and a talking raccoon could make us all so emotional?? also, I am so proud of Ke Huy Quan. he absolutely killed all 3 of his roles in this movie. there is a clip of him on a podcast that brought tears to my eyes of him getting very emotional about where he'd been. he had quit acting due to the lack of roles for asian actors and had resigned himself to working behind the scenes. but when Crazy Rich Asians came out, it gave him hope again and he went to the theaters to see it multiple times. when asked by the podcast hosts where he'd been all these years, he simply said with tears in his eyes "I've been right here." that got me. I'm so proud of him for winning not only the Golden Globe, but also the Best Supporting Actor Oscar for this movie. so well deserved! ❤

The self-realization that not everything is tied up in a bow as they apologize for the reactions not being tied up in a bow. You 2 hit the nail on the head with how it makes one "feel". Reactions are not limited to nor confined by "verbal" reactions. Nonverbal TOTALLY COUNTS. You had both. For me the movie had me think of what "love" means to each person is different and that should be okay. Googly eyes on everything matters to one person and the joy it brings to that person is what matters. Joys "joy" was her girlfriend. We all should support what brings "joy/love" to the people we care about, not smash it nonexistence just because we may not "get it".

I'm SO glad I got to see this in a pre-release IMAX screening. Seeing it on that giant screen with a loud sound system and a big crowd, and their reactions during the film, was one of the greatest movie-going experiences I can remember in years. I actually watched the multiverse shots of Michelle frame-by-frame and there are some crazy images they snuck in for just 1 or 2 frames, including one that's a shot of Michelle in front of a green screen while the VFX crew can all be seen on a Zoom call on the right, Michelle's face in the bark of a tree and a bunch of grapes, etc. Most of them you don't even really see. There's also a quick 2 frame shot of Stephanie holding an Academy award in the shot where she is Jobu and holding out her arm while different things change, which turned out to be a very prescient choice by the VFX team! I was so happy that it won all those Oscars, especially Ke Huy Quan because he was SO great in his first acting gig in over 20 years. (and to have the Oscar for best picture given to him by Harrison Ford - Indy & Short Round back together) - and, of course, the Queen Michelle Yeoh! All her decades of acting funneled down into this part and she was amazing. And one of my favorite things I learned when I watched the DVD with the director's commentary it that right after the dildo fight when Jobu/Joy smiles and giggles, that wasn't in the script. That was just Stephanie's reaction to that take and it was so good they left it in. Great reaction to such a great film!

This movie hits so hard for so many because it’s got some really smart and intelligent writing that’s routed in deep philosophical ideas. It’s just hidden under an abstract absurd representation. It’s the daoist yin and yang, order and chaos and the balance between the two. Within order, you must still introduce a bit of chaos and vice versa with a bit of order within chaos, and the way to live is to walk the path between the two sides. That’s why the white side has a black dot and the black side a white dot. Evelyn and Jobu/Joy at the start of the film represents each side without their opposing dot. Evelyn must introduce a bit of chaos to reach her full potential and jobu must find order(Evelyn) through the tumultuous chaos. By the end of the film, both gain balance and peace is restored. Waymond’s character is interesting. I haven’t quite worked out what he’s representing. My best guess is he’s representing the cure to nihilism. How you find “meaning” in your life which is needed to buttress yourself against the hardships and suffering that’s inherent in life. He has found that the pursuit of love and good brings joy and meaning to your life no matter where you are.

"It's a wonderful life" but with parallel worlds and of course: a lesbian daughter. Hollywood has got to throw in that lgbt sprinkle.

Even if it won nothing else, it deserved vest editing. Imagine how many takes were required and how much footage had to be folded together to get 1 10 second scene where her different selves are overlapping.

The buttplug fighters are the stunt coordinators and the masochist guy is one of the directors. This movie is crazy in the best of ways!
