To be honest, I kinda feel a sense of closure watching your vlogs. I love how raw it feels to watch you throwing yourself out of your way in every video. The rapid fire edits are also a good fit. It matches your style. It's like whatching a friend spending all his money recklessly in a vacation through some videos he sends in the groupchat. I can see how someone too shy and introvert would feel inspired to be more outgoing after watching you lol

I subscribed to your channel Mudan because of these vlogs. This is damn hard work. It takes me hours to edit like a ten minute video with simple screen grabs, voice overs, subtitles and music. I cannot imagine what this is like for you AND while you're editing other people's work. I congratulate you. However, the fact that you're using this to push yourself to see and do as much in Japan as is humanly possible AND the fact that you're actually living some of the life for the people for whom you edit gives what you're doing a much more human face. The way KZitem used to be and upon which it was built. This whole series IS you in a nutshell. And you'll have memories for a lifetime.

17:55 the fact that the "l" in salmon is not pronounced, is, like many problems in English, a problem created by the French. (salmon comes from "saumon" in old french, at some point an l was added to the word to make it look closer to the latin word where it originates from, but the pronunciation didn't change)

You'll definitely get more fun next month. Beside classic tourist places you probably visited, there also always some events/collab cafes etc. I'd recommend to visit once Shimo-Kitazawa, esp on Friday night. It's a place with a lot of vintage clothing and small concert halls. I used to work in that area and I visit there every time, because it's fun to watch fashionable people (and be one of them haha)

Just to be clear, it’s more likely that Japan’s lack of gluten intolerance and Celiac is a consequence of either long term isolation resulting in the trait just not being endemic in the population (like if it arose after the Japanese population(s) diverged from others) or from drift (just random changes in gene frequency), rather than natural selection. That said, I don’t know the evolutionary history of any of the major gluten conditions, let alone have a good idea as to how they developed and spread in aggregate, so take it with a grain of salt, it’s just that natural selection is usually less impactful than drift and evolutionary context for traits like this, especially for smaller, more isolated populations.

As someone who finished his one year sabbatical working holiday stay in Japan a year ago (stayed from mid 2022 to mid 2023), I love watching these videos because it sort of makes me relive my own experiences. Hope you can see a lot in Japan. I know this might be a bit weird since I've no idea about you as a person but if I had one piece of advice it would be: make the most out of your year. If that means having a day or two, heck, even a week where you just stroll around and do nothing special at all, do it. Only after I've finished my year did I realise how much I miss the mundane, small, every day things from Japan!

As a shy person myself: In big cities there are often meetups being organized. What I did during my vacation was just look up meetups, go to those that seemed interesting. If it was fun I stuck around, if it wasn't for me I'd just leave. And cities like Osaka and Tokyo are big enough you will be able to meet new people the entire time. It helps that usually people are actually interested in meeting new people at those. Being vegan in Japan is doable if you put in some effort, perhaps easier than gluten free. I'm vegetarian but had vegan food quite often. Happy Cow helps finding a lot of vegan/vegetarian (friendly) restaurants and stores, isitveganjapan will help you find vegan stuff in supermarkets and konbinis and warn you about those that seem okay but aren't. Konbinis will be the hardest unless there is a Natural Lawson nearby but even then there is a few options.
