Home Assistant is a dynamic, evolving system. In case, you're not familiar, Home Assistant is a home automation software that is open-source and free to use. Its purpose is to serve as a centralized control system for smart home devices, emphasizing local control and individual privacy.
The new network storage feature in Home Assistant is now available. It allows you to configure a network share within Home Assistant, which has been a long-awaited request from users. This feature enables you to store your own media from different sources such as NAS, and use it as a storage location for media generated by Home Assistant, like with Frigate. It can also be used as a backup location for your Home Assistant backups, offering a reliable alternative to storing backups on your instance. Setting up network storage is simple. You only need to go to the storage menu under the system and set up NFS, SMB, or SIFS shares. You can create multiple shares for different purposes and even select them as the default backup location. This feature eliminates the need for community add-ons and completes the puzzle of native backup automation. It's definitely worth celebrating!
