@@BockBockBouquet I agree, I've watched a ton of videos over the last two years. And this one is the first one in while that had tips that I've not seen before. Thank you! I was gifted a grown flick when I bought my property out in the country, so my first project was building their house, pen/run and fencing off their free range area. It was an older flock so most of them have pasted for one reason or another...so I tried hatching some chicks with my eggs...ended up with nothing but roosters! Two roosters were from a very grouchy hen and they were both meaner than she was. I had never intended to eat my chickens but they terrorized my hens to the point some hens would not go back into the roost box! So I did invite those two to dinner one night! Anyway, great info! Thank you again for all the tips!

@@BockBockBouquet hi. One thing I learned through the years raising animals is always keep clean water and food and their living area clean as the manure can cause diseases and they become sick..... The idea of layering the mulch and manure is good as it helps keep them from coming in contact with germs and coccidia and things that cause sickness..and meal worms and soldier fly's will thrive in the decaying matter but eventually this will still need to be removed and cleaned . just as the best boxes...and water containers. So it would be a good practice or idea to have either made in the coop or out a way to harvest the insects and area to finish composting the manure and straw as compost does better with moist decaying matter like vegetable scraps and grass and the insects like that too is traditionally out side of the coop but close by and a vegetable garden so the finished compost has three bin areas of composition and whin it turns into a dirt is wonderful compost for the garden .. compost gives off heat also and is something to keep in mind where you put it I have heard of compost actually catching fire! That's how hot it can get ! And with all things new we must do our research and study so we can decide how we want to manage our property and to manage the work so it is easier and beneficial to us and our property. If you do decide to use the methods I described , congrats ! You will be farming.! Using the natural ecosystem God created to grow your own food! Enjoy ! And happy Farming!

I use the Quail Base on a 1x6 piece of wood, place the hole on the lowest side to prevent running over; I put some real honey in the water. My little roosters are very friendly and follow me around. The beehives are covered with earwigs and I put the cover in the chicken run watching the chickens slurp the bugs up like an anteater. Ranger chicks are going in their new run in a day or two as soon as its finished.. CHEAP food sucks as there is excessive waste, pointing it out to people reading this post. I use Nutrena because its sold locally and the chickens really like it over the TSC brand.

I use deep litter, but I use grass clippings I add a layer of grass a day. Or really just dump the grass in and the chicks spread it over the entire broader. Also add a hand full of sandy soil. This is the second broad I've done this way. First brood was out the door and in the coop in 3 weeks.

Outstanding young lady brilliant. Rapid fire. Answering all the questions. I only want two hens. When I was a child we had chickens. They slept with me in my bed. Then it was time to throw them outside. I made the mistake of naming every one of them. After they were quite a bit larger I came home from school and they were all gone. I asked my mom where is Henny Penny she's my favorite? Mom said she's in the freezer. I made the same mistake with our bunny rabbits. Well these two little baby hens that I'm going to get today will have names. And the only way I'm going to eat them is when they die of natural causes. Thank you for this wonderful instructional video. Nice nails by the way.

I have a crested cream legbar that is a year old and was laying consistently for many months. Then she all of a sudden stopped laying. She is just as active as ever, she forages, and is in good health. She doesnt act sluggish or isolate herself she stays with the flock as always. She's not eggbound. She goes in the nesting box once in a while but never lays an egg. We have searched the grounds but have not found any other place she might lay. Her eggs are blue so they are easy to see. But she used to lay an egg at least every other day. We've We been raising chickens for 10 years and have never had this happen. It's been almost 4 months since she has layed an egg. She's been normal in every other way. Thoughts?
