It's honestly not a bad movie at all imo. Sure you could definitely find things wrong with it, but all things considered, especially its perceived underperformance at the box office and being mostly forgotten, it's kind of underrated. The animation and design is good, you can tell some of the people involved put their heart in it, and that they at least tried to create a story and world to bring the viewer into which is not always present these days with a lot of animated movies from certain studios. They had a cast of well-knowns so they were banking on their numbers BUT everything else did have effort and many things to enjoy about it. I often hate the forced romances that happen over the course of a few days/hours, but ngl, I was kind of rooting for them in the end and thought their characters had chemistry tbh

I always felt like the name of this movie was totally wrong. I get the connection and why it’s called that, but even when my kid and nieces and nephews were in to this movie, I could never remember the name of it. It was always just “the Leafmen Movie” to the kids. Naming it “Epic” was a huge mistake. It’s simple to the point of being difficult to remember, it’s almost impossible to google unless you know the plot or the year it was released off the top of your head, it’s not a word that very young children are very familiar with (nor is it explained in the movie so they never make a connection with the name). I kind of wonder if it would have done better in the years after release if it had a better name.

Apparently the director Chris Wedge wanted the movie to be titled “Leaf Men” but the marketing department changed the title.

For the twin bed thing- that is incorrect. There's twin beds, and there's full beds. And if you're a lengthy kid, you need a full-sized one to actually fit on your bed. I know, because I was stuck with a twin bed that did not fit me for years.

The saddest thing about this movie aside from the fact it was made by a dead studio is the realization that the main character was named after William Joyce's dead daughter, M.K.

1:32 -- It's apparently the law that every piece of family entertainment now needs some kind of grief plotline. I saw the stage musical of "Freaky Friday" and according to the program, the creators said the show was "about grief." Which, having seen the original "Freaky Friday," leaves me to wonder, "How did we get here from there?" (And yeah, the Jamie Lee Curtis remake was kind of a stepping stone, but even that one wasn't "about grief.")
