Two things. One. You kind of have to be a Christian, or at the very least you need to have more than a passing knowledge of the New Testament to understand what this song is getting at. All of the really important religious people used to hate Jesus when he was still preaching, and they were wrong about that. Maybe they are wrong about Esmeralda and her people as well. Two. I think this song was based off of a real prayer that some Catholics pray today. I’m not sure, because I wasn’t raised Catholic. But I think some people do pray the prayer “God help the outcasts.“ I wouldn’t go quoting myself on that, though. They should try it at least once, if they haven’t done it already.

Honestly Esmerelda and Kida (from Atlantis) gets the short stick from Disney. Kida was royalty and is not part of the Disney princess lineup and Esmerelda is ignored even though Mulan is counted and she's not a princess either. They are some of the strongest females in Disney (I don't know how many of those Disney princess can take on guns and judo throw a guy, or be able to display sexuality, beauty and grace while outrunning guards in an amazing performance). Sure men "save" them in the end, but they left stronger impacts on me than any newer princess in the line up.

Not only that, but he also made it a sin that Frollo kept Quasi in the bell tower at seemingly no benfit to him, but it's not about that. Frollo is keeping Quasi out of some attempt at redemption, but he would be disgusted if anyone discovered that he existed, and worse, that Frollo was associated with him. What benefit would Frollo have if Quasi went outside? Maybe if he was convinced making Quasi happy is part of his redemption, but that's a slim chance.

It was a choice to make Frollo a "judge" who was the prime mover of all the action instead of the archdeacon who barely leaves the cathedral. @@beethovensfidelio I suppose it makes sense that the 1939 version was the starting point for the Disney script. I remember how that movie looked, but not the plot; think I saw it before reading the book, and hence it has been written over. Frollo is not technically a member of the clergy, so there ought to have been a way around that provision of the Hays Code (looking for the Three Musketeers, in which bad clergy are unavoidable, this was done in the UK during that period but not in the US). Oliver le Mauvais could have been the evil government guy and Frollo could have just been a creep. If Frollo is the big bad from the beginning, he doesn't have a reason to be Quasimodo's caretaker.

Coming up on The First 48, an argument among friends spins out of control when one of them makes a deadly decision. Cleveland, Ohio, just before dawn, in the working class neighborhood of North Collinwood, a woman flags down a patrol unit. Phone call: 911 operator: 34, go ahead with the info Police officer: we have a male that’s down. Police officer: I believe he’s shot. Police officer: He’s not breathing. When paramedics respond, they find a man on the front porch, dead. Detective Melvin Smith moved from Mississippi to Cleveland as a teen, he will be the lead. The victim, known in the neighborhood as ‘Los’, is a 39-year-old Cleveland native, he was living with his cousin at the house where he was killed. Scene investigation: Smith: His shirt is ripped. Smith: He was involved in a physical fight. Medical examiner: That, there’s the entrance. Detective Leto Sandavol: Upper lip? Medical examiner: Upper lip. Smith: Ah, there it is. Smith: One shot straight through the upper lip into his brain. An hour in, Smith talks to the women who flagged officers down, she’s the victims cousin. Smith: Tell me, what happened to him? Woman: well um.. (She says that they were hanging at her place with a friend, Tamera.) Smith: who is she Woman: Tamera Coleman. Woman: We was drinkin’ & everything was cool, then.. we made a joke like Los broke or whatever. (She claims the victim got angry and hit Tamera) Women: Tamera was like “Los, you don’t put your hand on me, I got someone for you” (She claims Tamera called someone and told them to “take care” of the victim) Woman: she kept on screamin’ they was gonna come over and beat my cousin up. (Then she claims Tamera turned on her) Woman: I was like “now you wanna fight me!?” (They started fighting and it spilled outside, moments later, a man showed up) Smith: then what happened, what did he do? Woman: I don’t know cause me and Tamera was still up there arguing ( she claims she was too busy fighting to get a good look at the shooter) Smith: now your gonna tell me you don’t know, you know everything up until the end, but you don’t know what happened after that. Woman: I never seen that guy go in or outside my house. Smith: Don’t tell me what you didn’t see, tell me what you saw! Smith: Somebody shot your cousin and killed him and you know who shot him and you won’t tell me. Woman: we was still on the corner fighting. Smith: so somebody shot your cousin so who did it! You know who shot him. Woman: no Smith: I’m not sure what to do with you. Smith: I don’t know why she won’t cooperate, it’s her cousin. She knows Tamera called someone, she knows a guy came over there but she doesn’t know anything after that, I don’t buy it. Smith: I don’t know how your conscience is gonna be with you for the rest of your life if we don’t solve this and you never tell me who you saw shoot your cousin and kill him, you ready to tell me what I need to know? Woman: the man who was walking down the street. Smith: walking down the street towards your house!? Woman: yes. He looked like he had something over his shirt or whatever. (She claims she didn’t see anything else but says Tamera would know, she gives a possible address for Tamera) They find Tamera at a vacant apartment and bring her to Homicide for question, she admits to fighting the victim and his cousin, but denies calling anyone and claims that Los was still alive she left. However.. They catch her on surveillance making a phone call to someone where she confesses to calling the suspect, she’s booked for manslaughter. Two hours later she wants to talk again. This time she admits to calling the suspect named Ed but still denies seeing the murder but guarantees it was Ed who she identifies as Ed Johnson. 26-year-old Edwardlee Johnson has numerous convictions including robbery, assault and concealed carry. Smith: Ed went over with a gun, he intended to do some damage, he’s considered armed and extremely dangerous. We need to find this guy and take ‘em down. For the next few days, the fugitive task force hits several locations looking for Johnson, but as the first 48 runs out, Johnson is nowhere to be found. Summary: In the First 48, Cleveland Detectives responded to the murder of a man named “Los”, discovered he had gotten into a fight with a friend who called the suspect to the seen, identified the suspect as Edwardlee Johnson, searched for Johnson but have been unable to find him. 10 days into the investigation, Johnson turns himself in with his attorney. Smith:He’s been through the system quite a few times, he knows how to maneuver his way around, I really don’t expect a whole lot out of this guy. Interview with the suspect: Smith: Ok, I’m Detective Smith from the Homicide unit. Smith: would you like to talk to me or would you like to have your attorney? ------------------------------------------- Johnson: Attorney, sir. Smith: he’s not talking, I’ll precede with the case as is. Smith: I didn’t see any signs of remorse in Edwards eyes. Smith: He gets a phone call, gets the gun, and goes to the scene and kills the victim, this guy’s a stone-cold killer. Tamera may not have intended for him to kill the victim but the facts are that the phone call is the reason why the victim is dead. Edwardlee Johnson was subsequently found guilty of murder. He was sentenced to 25 years to life. Tamera Coleman plead guilty to involuntary manslaughter and received a mandatory 3 year sentence

Close to the actual story. Shes actually hung, Quasi kills Frollo and then starves himself to death at Esmeraldas grave. And Cinderella's step sister have their eyes pecked out. Ariel turns into seafoam when she refuses to kill her prince to live since he married someone else. Snow White forced her step mother to dance in hot iron shoes until death. Sleeping beauty is about a king who breaks into a sleeping womans home and gives her twins........ Then leaves with her still unconscious. Pretty sure disney cant make money on those kinds of stories. The real fairy tales are far darker and more horrific. Most of them ironically written by the brothers grim

Entertaining video, but I think you got a few points wrong about certain scenes. 1. Frollo's not purposely being over the top. He's so wrapped in hypocrisy and racism that he honestly believes an imperfect baby spawned from another ethnic group is of Satan. What other animated Disney film ever had the spine to make the villain say, "This is an unholy demon!" or mention literally sending someone to Hell? A bit creepy and laying it on thick for a kids' movie, but as an adult, I can certainly appreciate this insight into how dark this character is going to be throughout the film. 2. The talking gargoyles aren't magic. Quasi imagines that they can speak so he doesn't feel so alone. As for their movement and lines when they aren’t in Quasi’s presence, he imagines they have hobbies and side conversations when he’s not around. Authors do it all the time with their fictional characters. Quasi just never got around to writing his imagined gargoyle characterizations. 3. Disney needed the gargoyles for comedy. Otherwise, it would be too dark to keep children entertained for over an hour. Besides, you forget that gargoyles were meant to frighten evil spirits. The antics of these three keep the dark spirit of Frollo from tainting every last scene of this movie. They are humorous hope in what would otherwise be an animated documentary about oppression. Job well done, guys. 4. Clopin tells us what Frollo is getting out of keeping Quasi around. "And for one time in his life of power and control..." What better power and control than an enslaved person who delights in catering to your every whim and telling you how great you are? 5. The movie is supposed to make you a little mistrustful. In Christianity, there are hypocritic leaders like Frollo and leaders who try to do the right thing like the Archdeacon. There are some who misuse religious beliefs as an excuse to harm others (again, like Frollo) and others who genuinely want to serve their deity of choice by having compassion for their fellow man (like Esmeralada). No, it's not just in Christianity; it happens in other faiths too. The point is that someone is neither automatically good nor automatically bad as a person based on what religion they claim to follow, so judging someone based solely on religious beliefs is pointless at best. 6. Quasi's been in the cathedral for 20 years, during which he has no doubt gotten bored and tried a few short climbs. Even if not, he has obviously gained strength from years of ringing the bells, so he is confident in his ability to support his own weight by his arms. 7. This movie is supposed to be offensive. If you hate (or at least have a certain lack of respect for) an entire race, you don't call them the proper word for their ethnic group; you call them the local offensive term. Thus, the people of Paris will say "gypsies" instead of "Romani." 8. Everyone apparently knows the legend of the bell ringer of Notre Dame. (Think of the first scene here.) So who could that hideous guy be that no one has seen before, the one with the hunch? Must be the legendary bell ringer among us at last. 9. Sin should be taken off for “God Help the Outcasts.” Say what you want about the timing; the song is beautiful. 10. Sin should be removed for the way “Heaven’s Light” transitions into “Hellfire.” The stark contrast of the two songs should make the transition impossible, but no. Furthermore, they seem to be happening simultaneously and are about reactions to the same event, thus giving an insight into the souls of each of the two characters. Quasi’s reaction to strong emotion is to believe he feels the light of Heaven, whereas Frollo’s is to feel as if he’s burning in Hell. Thus, despite years of abuse, Quasi seems to have developed a good heart and not turned out like his captor. 11. Another sin off for the relation of the Latin and English lyrics of “Hellfire.” The Latin lyrics are about confessing sin, and Frollo really goes for the concept. However, during the part where the monks are saying their sin is their own fault; Frollo denies being at fault for his own sins. At that point, the Latin prayer ends, as if even God cannot save Frollo from the powers of Hell now. The Latin choir does, however, return at the end to plead for the Lord to have mercy. Is this because Frollo is asking for God’s mercy at this time as well, or are they praying that God has mercy on them because Frollo has just vowed to destroy the entire city, or are they praying that God will save them from ending up so clearly fallen from grace like Frollo is now? 12. Frollo is also appealing to the patron saint of women, children, and the poor for permission to do something despicable to an impoverished teenage girl, and he still believes his prayers should be answered because of how righteous he is. 13. The croissant line actually fits. The gargoyles are trying to make him feel better by pointing out his good qualities, but since they’re the comedy relief of this movie as opposed to the dashing prince of other movies, their attempts are well intentioned but botched. They mean well, but yes, they’re going to say stupid lines because that’s how comedy relief characters work. 14. Of course they’re going to hang the spies. That’s typically what people have done with spies throughout history. What did you want them to do, serve them muffins and tea? 15. Sin should be off for Frollo’s death. His last words are “And he shall smite the wicked and plunge them into the fiery pit!” In what can only be considered divine intervention, Frollo’s foothold crumbles, plunging him toward the molten metal and bonfire mixture on the ground, i.e. he pronounced his own sentence, and God has judged him wicked, not righteous as Frollo believed himself to be. This literal falling into fire would also imply that Frollo is going to spend eternity in Hell, as he feared in his song. 16. I should have said it earlier. There should be a sin removed for the intricate details of animation in this film. Just look at the carving around the church doors, for example.

@@jessicamacaulay7462 Guilt is not necessarilly rational. And it's intrusive, it sticks to everything until you can't recognize feelings when they're not covered in guilt. Probably not the case and I'm also misunderstanding but the point is that when you're raised in guilt (or any negative emotion for that matter) it becomes really easy to trigger and I believe that's the joke, that this movie with heavy religious themes is his favorite, definitely nothing to do with being raised to adore catholic mythos. It could also be an alusion of losing their faith and still struggling with guilt so they praise this movie who portrays faith in a (cuasi-) good light while being a good movie. Cinderella and Dumbo I haven't seen but they don't seem like they're as good as the originals (from what I heard Dumbo isn't even close - the kids's performances apparently are so wooden) ! That's where I stand on it so far - even though I like some of them they don't capture the magic of the originals so Disney has to either make them consistently good or just stop making them !
