I always felt happy, sometimes on the verge of euphoria, during long walks in varied terrain, running on my bike as fast as I possibly could, repairing important outdoor things in pouring rain, struggling while going home in strong winds that almost knocked me over... I felt so alive and confident- I knew I could make it! I am a woman and now I am almost 81 years old. I can no longer rely on my body's capacity as much. But I have found a new way of moving that makes me happy: I play catchy music and dance, all alone, moving every limb and joint to the beat of the drums, and following my own spontaneous, varied "choreography". I feel very happy. Since many people my age are unable to raise if they have fallen to the floor or to the ground, and need to be lifted up (sometimes with a broken femur) by someone else, I lay on the floor several times a day and get up again, just for the practice, with a smile on my face because I can still do it. Use it or loose it. And I strongly consider following Erwan Le Corre's advice and try crawling around on all fours... Move, people! You will thank yourselves for it.

Well, this is a very charismatic gentleman. I also believe that satisfaction is key. The enjoyment of the moving and capability of the body. A couple of years ago I got partially paralised due to illness and was in diapers in a wheelchair. I am 45. Learning all the movements again made me realise how everything is so interconnected in the body. How many muscles are involved in simple movements. The greatest joy was being able to go to the bathroom alone again, showering standing up and taking a walk again. It was a long and patient process but in a way fascinating. I had to be very mindfull with every movement and I was very conscious of the progress that was made day by day. Now I enjoy yoga and pilates, I love the flexibility and the balance it gives me. I love swimming and the weightlessness inside the water. I love dancing, the flowing and joy it brings. I also love weight training and the strength it gives me. I love walking on the beach, jumping on a trampoline, cycling and doing handstands. Our body can feel like a prison or it can be a beautiful vehicle for navigating through this miracle of life. Our body is amazing and capable of wonderful things. We should love it and celebrate it. I talk to my body now. Thank it, bless it and listen to what it needs. What a joy to be able to move!

It's always interesting to hear alternative perspectives on widely accepted beliefs, and it's essential to remain open-minded about new ideas. While it's natural to feel attached to the information we've learned over time, it's important to be willing to consider different perspectives and challenge our assumptions. I'm curious to see what Erwan has to say about exercise, and I'm excited to learn more about his approach to staying fit and healthy.

There's quite a lot to unpack here. I wouldn't criticise single machine movements, they can definitely aid more complex actions. I used to be a rower and we'd spend a lot of time on the leg press and bench pull for obvious reasons. And they made me stronger and better able to pull an oar in a boat. I don't row anymore (although I do own a rowing machine) and do various cardio, some HIIT and a few weights sessions a week. Plus lots of smaller things like kettlebell swings, planks, dips, calf raises, etc... several times during the day to support my wider fitness. I'm pretty happy with that, I need the variety to keep me motivated. Completely agree on the image of fitness presented by influencers or whatever they like to be called. Given the routine I do I think I look pretty good. But that's secondary to the fitness and health gains. Doing it purely for cosmetic reasons seems pointless to me. There's a guy on here called Mark Lewis who did a video called something like "Does social media really know what fitness is" which sums it up very well. I'd recommend having a look.

So I put a list on my fridge of all the fun things I need to rotate and suddenly the thought of exercise as a chore went away. Some of the things I had on my list are biking, pickleball, shooting hoops, rollerblading, Oculus VR exercise apps, walking dogs, hiking, and paddle boarding or swimming in the ocean.

things like machines in gyms, and doing crunches, these are not bad things by any means, you're forgetting that people can be limited by what they can do (for example most people suffer with back pain from regular sit ups), and also one of the most important things is that whatever you do, you are increasing bloodflow to that area which is very good, I'm a boxer and we do crunches all the time, we fine

Funny. I lift weights all the time. When a water cooler jug needs changing, I'm that guy to change it. So I'd walk about 100 feet and grab that water jug and carry it back. People would say use a chair. Id say that's what these muscles are for; not just for looks. Extremely important to stay fit, what if I have to save my family from physical harm. I need to be physically strong as well. Good podcast so far but couple things that need to be pointed out. I don't believe for most people that there is any artificial or natural movements that make people feel good from a biological standpoint. Anything energy spent on movement will be discouraged by the mind because it requires work. 2nd. Unless I miss it, the podcast did not mention the primary biological driving force behind being fit, to attract the opposite sex. Whether anybody realizes it or not, most if not all want to look physically healthy to attract the opposite sex. Our confidence may come from our accomplishments, but alot of it may come from knowing that you look good for the opposite sex. 3rd. Id ditch the idea of doing natural movements or any movements for sake of enjoyment. If it happens great, but workout through calisthenics, gym, swim, sports, martial arts, etc like your life depends on it, because it absolutely does. If you look like a sack of S#&$t, your going to feel like a sack sh##$ whether you want to admit it or not. Staying in shape should be number 1 priority because if you are not taking care of yourself, you are doing a disservice not only to yourself, but to the others around you that may have to take care of you; and that's sad and totally unnecessary. I don't think any reasonable person will ever say Im glad I look horribly out of shape. If you gave that person a pill that will turn them into a model, they would down the whole bottle.

Neither of you have a clue about gyms or why bodybuilders use machines by the sounds of it. Our survival no longer depends on climbing or running. Of course, it's a good idea to be physically fit from a cardiovascular perspective but do i need to move on all fours? Climb a tree? Swim in my local lake? No. Being functional and using gym equipment arent mutually exclusive for the record. 100% do a sport you enjoy. If thats bodybuilding using gym equipment that you 2 hate so much, then do it. P.s You deffo didnt get a good physique from doing press ups and sit ups at 15 years old 😂

I agree AND disagree. (so perhaps I sit in the middle) YES I think it is important to move naturally, and ultimately this is the best way to move in life - even as we all age. I'm sure this natural movement method will grow to be more popular over the coming years eventually for those who are ready to shake off the shackles of rigid movement. However, there is also much enjoyment to be made from somewhat 'constraining style movement' too. There is something for everyone and it depends where our learning and cognitive skill abilities lie (at this moment in time). Let's take the example of rowing in a boat - loose and relaxed - so the technique is not too rigid and is more effective, yet the movement looks metronomic and revolves around specific rhythm. Even machines in a gym play an important role for many people. It is not as black and white as it appears... In some cases, when it comes to exercise and movement - we may learn the rules...follow them for a short while....then eventually dissolve them. Good points in the podcast though.

@Middle Kid speak for yourself (your opinion, in other words.) My opinion is that this is not (my definition of) 'clickbait'. Clickbait, imo, is an image and/or title that misleads the viewer into assuming the video is actually, - far removed - from the actual content of said video. Other than that...."Having a quality guest speaks for itself, and a 'title' is not needed" - well sure... if most are familiar with the guest. But, conversely, not when the guest is unknown to many. For instance, I'd never heard of Erwan before now, so simply using Erwan's photo, or name or whatever, probably would not have intrigued me enough to want to tune in to this interview. ...just my opinion😉
