No, your wife will be eligible after 2 years of residency. After she becomes a Spaniard, you can apply after 1 more year of residency. That will be available to you as a spouse of a Spanish citizen.

Very well informed, thank you for sharing guys (and congrats to Paul for the positive results)! 🙂 Out of curiosity, when does the residency count for citizenship? Is it by the time when one lands or when one gets the TIE?

@@EverythingIsBoffo Ahh cool, good to know! Another questions if you don't mind asking.. 1. What happens to the TIE assuming once has their citizenship approved? There is no need for renewal and just let it expire? 2. Assuming like one has a completed B1 Spanish (that was learned before citizenship application started) is it still accepted? 3. Can one apply for citizenship immediately after completing the residency requirements (like even if its one day after legally completing the residency requirements). I know these are long questions but I have started applying and waiting for my NLV. Really excited to go to Spain.. thanks again for your time!

@@regiejohn15126 1. Yes you will get a DNI and a different card because you’re not a foreigner anymore. The E in TIE is extranjero. 2. Let me clarify, if you hold a dual nationality and one of them is IBEROAMERICANOS (Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, Brasil, Guatemala, Honduras, México, Nicaragua, Panamá, Paraguay, Perú, Puerto Rico, República Dominicana, Uruguay, Venezuela), Andorra, Filipinas, Guinea Ecuatorial y Portugal then you can get citizenship after two year. The Canadian is just an example of the other nationality that someone can hold, like Canadian-Peruvian, but being Canadian doesn’t qualify you for the 2 year waiting period. Only natural-born Ibero-Americans, Filipinos etc have the right to apply after 2 years.

I think taxation should also be discussed. Maybe another interview? DOUBLE TAXATIOn is something we must be so careful about. Taxes in Soain can be so high. This is my concern and holds me from applying Spain citizenship. I can also apply dual citizenship with the Philippines first then apply for Spanish residency or citizenship but taxation or the possibility of double taxation scares me because the US Spain tax treaty can be complicated and is subject to discretionary interpretation in Spain.

You have to be continuously living in Spain for 2 years. That’s why it’s called citizenship by RESIDENCY. You need to reside in Spain and not be out more than 3 months.
@dantorres506
3 ай бұрын
If you are referring to Spain's Golden Visa (GV), the GV will only give you a residency permit and not lead to citizenship unless you stay in Spain and if you are willing to stay in Spain with the goal of acquiring Spanish Citizenship you don't need to invest in Spanish GV, you can apply for a retirement visa which is really really cheap. If you want a Euro Citizenship consider Portugal's GV. This is the one I got. Portugal only requires a 14-day stay every 2 years ( you can divide this in 2 or more trips). As long as you don't stay more than 183 days in Portugal you won't become a tax resident. I don't like staying in Spain because that will make me a tax resident and Spain has the most horrible taxes in Europe. You have to declare your worldwide income and assets and every time you sell an asset you need to pay Capital Gains Tax on them.

There has already been people that have gotten spanish citizenship this way. They go into spain as americans apply for spanish citizenship with mexican or colombian etc…(which ever citizenship qualifies for fast track ) people get alot of different answers from different places some consulates from what ive read dont even know about any of this and thye just say “thats not possible “

My grandfather's birth certificate was amended last 2005 and his spanish nationality was declared. All he had to do was go to the consulate and register but at 82 years of age, he thought it was pointless. That and my father's death meant that I would not be able to apply for spanish citizenship unless I go there and work, subjecting myself to high taxes. Now that I am in my 40's, I realize that you can make it big anywhere if you excel and know the right people. I have a job in Manila that lets me save more than the average spaniard. My only wish is that the philippine passport gets better in terms of visa free access, then I'll want nothing more.
