Thanks for the informative video. I use aluminum carabiners for my inversion swing and gymnastic rings. Never realized how many different types there are.

Worth pointing out the issues with the Gridlock style device and a grigri, also the possible damage to the carabiner and as a result the belay loop if its not seated correctly. Hard is easy has a good voideo about it. You generally wont see the sort of forces to destroy a grigri however it does feel its best avoiding these carabiners as the design is questionable. The Dmm ceros fixes these issues with a horn to stop it loading in that way and a oneway wire gate for the belay loop so that the belay loop will pull through anyway. Also makes it less fidly.

Hi Mike, which Petzl carribiber(s) will you recommend and how many for building quad anchors? I am getting ready to purchase my first set of carribiners and have always seen Petzl gear as really good quality. I will appreciate any feed back on this topic

I'm a newbie, just getting into climbing. I'm looking for a carabiner for a resting lanyard for via ferrata and am kind of overwhelmed by the options. It should be lightweight and secure, will only be used in static situations and should open wide enough to pass a steel cable or some rebar through it. Can you recommend any specific style or product?

Petzl Vertigo is ideal for ferrate since it has a huge opening, which helps a lot considering how wide the steel inserts are. I bought two of them to use with an Ypsilon lanyard and turned out to be a completely useless expense since I've never needed to take a break to rest on a ferrata, however the Vertigo and a simple sling would be useful to have just in case.

2:02 cool thing about oval carabiners is that although they do tend to twist, they also tend to align themselves along the longer axis

Hi. I'm new to climbing and I'm trying to get someone a large HMS carabiner as a gift (they keep talking about how they need some larger ones). How might I find the larger ones online? It seems impossible to yell the normal sized ones from the large ones and adding the word "large" to the search doesn't change anything. Could you suggest some high quality large screw lock HMS?
