Hey Jay, I'd like to see you put up the 980 Ti Hybrid vs the 295x2. Considering their current price tags, I'd say that is a pretty fair fight.

Since the 295x2 beat the titan x its gonna beat the 980ti but not having crossfire has some major advantages as well. Would like a video as well though even though I know the results...

Exynos Agreed. 295X2 will beat the Hybrid 980ti in raw power, but when you look at games with poor SLI/XFire scaling, and those games that NVIDIA just run better on, MGS:V, Witcher 3, etc.. 980ti will win there.

The pricing for the GTX 980 Ti does not make any sense. It's barely slower than a Titan X but at the time of this posting is priced at $649.99. Putting 2 GTX 980 Ti's in SLI would save you $800 vs 2 Titan X's in SLI. 3 way SLI would save you $1200 vs 3 way SLI Titan X's. This is beyond stupid. The business executives at Nvidia must know something I don't.
@DanielLoganGames

For just gaming the titan line never made much sense. If this card had double precision I would get it but nope... I guess the titan x would do better at 5k performance but other than that it is mainly bragging rights. I don't think nvidia expects to sell many titans.

Exynos That makes even less sense if you think about it. The production costs for a 980 Ti should be roughly the same as a Titan X. Yet, there is a $400 difference between the two of them. I'm assuming they think they will make up the difference in the volume of 980 Ti's sold verses the people that get duped into buying a Titan X. Honestly, for the Titan X to make any sense, it needs to be sold around $700+ because of the performance difference between the two cards.

The lower temps are very much appreiciated. But I don't really see the idea behind using reference bios and pcb :S Watercooling and OCs are supposed to go hand in hand. Sure the chip lottery could be in effect but there were barely any difference between the "normal" and Hybrid card in terms of performance. I was expecting it to blow both the Titan and regular Ti away. Perhaps we'll see some better figures when the custom pcbs and bioses come. Anyways. Nice vid
@Hampus3313

Pholiage " I was expecting it to blow both the Titan and regular Ti away." Why? It´s the same damn card as the regular Ti. Only that you run way cooler and more silent.
@Pholiage
9 жыл бұрын
Rush New to overclocking? The Boost 2.0 on the GF cards push the frequencys to the point where the card gets too hot and then throttles down. So if you can cool the gpu more efficient like the Hybrid AIO almost halves the temps and given the Ti card has a thermal threshold of 98C you could overclock the hell out of it. However the reference cards rarely let you play with the voltages unless you use a custom bios that some homebrewer has cooked up. So my point was. Why not have the bios unlocked if they are going to slap another $100 to the pricetag. EVGA aren't known for whimping out on the VRMs and stuff when they release thier Kingpins and SSC versions. So releasing this "beast" is like having it chained to a tentpole at the circus. The performance it gives at stockspeeds are good already. So you would figure this was aiming towards the enthusiasts. Now it's more confusing what they were planning with this card other than the lower temps. If they only wanted to bring down the noise and temps they could of used their ACX cooler right away on the reference board and just charge $50 more.
@ZenzDeluxe
9 жыл бұрын
Rush Please know that much higher clocks with this hybrid cooler are probably possible because of that low temperature. With a custom BIOS, and some higher overvolting, this thing is probably capable of getting at least in the 1500mhz OC range on the core. In that case, it WILL perform better than a Titan or 980ti on stock reference coolers, and it will still be very quiet.
@Hampus3313
9 жыл бұрын
ZenzDeluxe oh i know, but please know he´s more or less running the same clocks. So again, it´s the same damn card, what do you expect?
@Pholiage
9 жыл бұрын
Rush You fail to understand. The AIO liquid cooler in the Hybrid is capable of cooling the card to a degree that you should be able to overclock the card much higher. Which Jay pointed out he got a 1484Mhz. If the card would have been unlocked and even had a custom board it would probably go much higher. Jay was showing the difference of the highest stable overclock on the reference Ti and Titan vs the highest he could get on the Hybrid. But 84Mhz wasnt doing much for the card. Case in point and waste of $100

SANIC it's technically just a smaller 4pin PWM connector and there are adaptors available, but I think the problem is that the radiator fan has only two wires, therefore it isn't controllable through PWM. You should be able to use any other 120mm PWM fan, though.

One thing I would like to see, is the difference in adding 2x the fans on a radiator for an AIO water cooling loop, on both a CPU cooler, and on something like the Hybrid here. See what the difference with having fans on both sides on the radiator, and not just one, as I saw Tom's Hardware do a "Troll H100i"-video with 40 fans, and that got to sub-zero. So seeing what a reasonable amount of fans could do, would be awesome.

@DextahPC
9 жыл бұрын
***** Yes. I'll use Watch Dogs, Crisis 3, BF4, and GTA V as examples. Watch Dogs, as I'm sure you know is total unoptimized trash, only uses 4gb @4k with 4x MSAA (Anything more than 4x MSAA is imperceptible at 4k resolution). Crisis 3, without AntiAliasing only uses 3gb of Vram @4k and about 3.7gb @4k with 4x MSAA. BF4 uses 2.5gb Vram @4k with AA off and only 3.2gb @4k with AA on 4x MSAA. GTA V will actually get close to the full 6gb of Vram @4k (5.7gb), but ONLY if you crank MSAA all the way up to 8x (which no sane person does at 4k considering you won't even see a difference from 4x MSAA). Even the most notorious, demanding titles do NOT require 6gb of Vram even at 4k resolution. 12gb is more than overkill and by the time 12gb is actually used regularly in game, the graphical capabilities of the Titan X will be sub par.

SLI v. single 980ti is about even (in price AND performance) edit: id say either option is good depending on what resolution u play at. if its 4k, the 6GB buffer will go a long way. 1080p/1440p its probably a toss up, though ud probably save a little on the power bill with one card

I'd love to see some hardcore overclocking guides on GPU's. If you are getting the Classified 980ti, I'd really like to see how far you could push it without resorting to water cooling. I would have loved to have seen you push the Hybrid even further, because I'm sure with some tweaks in the BIOS to open up things up, it could get higher. If the GM200 chip is anything like the GM204 chip, 1550-1600Mhz on the core and 8000Mhz on the memory is more than possible. Depending on the silicon lottery, that would slay and compete with 295X2 head-to-head.

Because i couldn't source the hybrid cooler specifically for my titan x i installed the hybrid cooler marked for the evga 980, it fit perfectly and was 30 bucks less than the 980ti hybrid kit, the only difference is the shroud markings.

Well I am upgrading to the EVGA GTX 980ti ACX 2.0 via their step up program (thanks EVGA). There is a Hybrid kit available that can turn certain models of GTX 980ti into a 980ti hybrid. Unfortunately the ACX 2.0 is not one of them. I guess they probably moved some things around so that it is not lining up with the reference component layout. Too bad I can't have the hybrid since this was the only 980ti model available in the step up program. I guess I could still add a water block and create my own loop. This hybrid is just simple and sexy though.

I'd love to see a water cooled Titan X by a manufacturer like EVGA instead of having to have to do it myself. A hybrid Titan X would be EPIC.

The fps charts where decent but the whole selling point of this card is its cooling and the temperature under load that it hits. You really didn't touch on that, and all i really learned from this over 10min video is that its on par performance wise with the titan x. That last graph at the end. Was it under load? What kind of load, can the small reservoir stay cool for long periods of load? How much noise does it make exactly? Really didn't address at least half of the other important information needed.

Love how well the 980 Ti has been performing. The Titan X, I will also add a nail into its coffin, Does have a bit of a thermal issue on top of its price difference.

would have been nice to actually hear how loud everything gets under normal and high loads -- I am thinking about upgrading from an ASUS and those things are super quite (although not as performant comparatively)

I really want to see the new A10-7870k OCed and pushed to the max. That thing can fit in a 12"x4"x10" case on a mITX board. Makes me wonder what the most compact gaming chip ever made can do. PPLLLEEEAASEEEEE DO IT

I added the hybrid cooler to my Titan X. I can 100% say that the cooling performance is indeed that good.

This should have been the real 980 50c temp, as fast as a titan x. Yea this one is a solid one. Nice video mate.

I am not sure when this was recorded, but hybrid coolers have been announced very recently for the Titan X by many companies including EVGA and Zotac. I want a Titan X over a 980Ti for its extra vram, so I can't wait until they come out! Will you be doing a video on those when they come out?

please review the Zotac Arctic Storm 980 Ti next - it looks like a much nicer hybrid card. I mean you can you use it as a radiator if you force the fans on while the card is liquid cool which seems super nice for an ITX build.

I like everything about the 980ti hybrid and I would get one if I had the money but for right now I'll stay happy with my EVGA 970 FTW edition. I love all the things EVGA is doing to all these new gpu's though its great for the consumers.

Yup, they're making a hybrid for the Titan X, but it's not for sale yet :(. I want to get 2 of the coolers with 2 backplates for my reference Titan X's so I can overclock them without having stupid high temps.

Jay, even though this video is a bit old by now, I would love if you could do performance review with the MSI sea hawk 1080 and/or the EVGA hybrid 1080 :)

In terms of nvidia controlling titan x boards it isn't quite the case. The titan x also can be bought from evga as a hybrid cooler, and zotac have also released an arctic storm model.
