A gorgeous piece of piano music that could only ever have been written by Mr. Liszt. I wish everyone in the world could appreciate and enjoy this as much as I do.

How do you know that we don't enjoy it as much as you do? But I certainly agree with your sentiment! Kissin and Liszt, there just isn't much in this old world that could be better than this!

Man….been listening to Liszt’s solo piano and this piece has stuck with me. I’m now looking up every version I can find to see who played it best. In music, there’s the beautiful, then the sublime, and the Franz Liszt, in a category all his own.

Fine performance, as always with Kissin and Liszt. Few pianists can manage the big moments of "Obermann" without music-less banging. Kissin certainly qualifies.

Liszt included this Byron poem as a prologue to the first publishing of the music for this piece: "Could I embody and unbosom now That which is most within me,-could I wreak My thoughts upon expression, and thus throw Soul, heart, mind, passions, feelings, strong or weak, All that I would have sought, and all I seek, Bear, know, feel, and yet breathe,- into one word, And that one word were Lightning, I would speak: But as it is, I live and die unheard, With a most voiceless thought, sheathing it as a sword." -Byron: Childe Harold. I'm not a great fan of Kissin, his playing sounds to me a bit rushed, a bit too passionate; but I must admit that his phrasing and the outlining of the structure of the piece are magnific here.

@albertol.4048

@@clarkebynum4623 I don't think so. If you just play with passion the structure could just be destroyed and other aspects such as sound or phrasing as well. The pianist must know how to conduct all his passion in order to get the best sound and the best construccion of the piece.

It is really good, however I prefer Wass for this piece, as he can play it absolutely well-balanced, so every note counts. Here I can just heard bit blurring notes in some parts, which could be more well-balanced. But anyway, it is still really impressive anyway.

Interesting execution of trills at 9:28. It seems he anchored his hand with one finger making a pivot point. I am practicing those tremolos right now and I am very interested what is he really doing. Can someone explain?
@tihamercsepregi7885
Жыл бұрын
Sometimes with such tremolos you may not play the bottom and the top together, but only move the two edges which is in this case two e-s and just hold down the middle of the chord with relaxed fingers, and because of the rotation you are making they will be hit too (the g and b flat)
