Killer tone and playing! But then again, coming from the master himself, we shouldn't expect anything less!! But honestly, most reviews on this newer 5150 line, when done by someone who knows what they are doing, they sound damn good! Guess that ol' saying my dad always said holds true... "The issue isn't the "product", it's more often than not, the person using it!"

@@killertoneexactly. I think they sound great too. Most people screw up the tone with too much presence, low resonance and no low end; on the bridge pickup. That makes it sound thin and shriek on the top end. Then they blame the speakers....
@michaelmarchei8539

Pity that the clean channel overdrive isn’t footswitchable. Not my style of amp Usually but I dig it
@emartinezr
10 ай бұрын
With a totally clean Channel 1, use Channel 2 with the gain between (2) and (4)... that gets you a good crunch that's not quite metal yet. Gain (4) to (6) is punk and classic metal. Gain past (6) is mayhem. That's all before the "Burn" setting. Then you can have it on Burn if you want the dirty to be even more aggressive when you switch... and use the Boost for solos. Boost adds both gain and volume. All footswitchable. Also... can use an OD pedal. Then you have.. Clean/Pedal, then Dirty/Pedal. That's 4 possible gain conditions. PLUS the boost, which is available separately to all of them. The Tone/EQ knobs in the pedal or Neck/Bridge pickups will help you sculp the dirty tone if you need to set them different from the all clean.

If you put the gain all the way up on channel 2 there is still some noisy feedback from the gain. Any suggestions on a noise gate pedal? The noise gate on the amp is great but works with the gain half way up. Not really with the gain on full blast. Can I run a Mesa 1x12 (8 ohms) at the same time as built in speaker in the 5150 1x12 iconic in the parallel out? If so, what do I set the impedance to? Thanks!
@killertone
Жыл бұрын
I think the internal speaker is 16ohms so it would be a mismatch with an 8 ohm extension cabinet. If the internal speaker was 8 ohm you would set the impedance on the amp to 4 ohms while using your 8 ohm extension cab.

Other than manually pushing the Overdrive button on the Clean Channel, were there any way to access the Crunch mode or toggle between the Crunch and Clean tone in a live setting? I am trying to figure that out without an overdrive pedal.
@killertone
11 ай бұрын
The only way to get to the crunch mode is by hitting the switch while on the clean channel.
@thrash8315
11 ай бұрын
@killertone Yep, not ideal for a stage setting.
@emartinezr
10 ай бұрын
@thrash8315 correct. Your options for a live situation are: 1. Get the "crunch" from Channel 2 at low gain, then switch to Channel 1 for clean. 2. Like you said, use a pedal for the overdrive/crunch on the clean and stay on that channel. 3. Using the foot switch boost plus some adjusment on your guitar volume knob to go from clean to boosted/crunch and back while staying in the green channel. The thing with the OD on Chan1 is that it adds a lot of gain, so you would need to adjust the channel volume if you go from OD crunch to clean and want to keep a similar output volume, which would be a problem if you could foot-switch from clean to OD within the same channel.
