In this recorded Anesthesia Grand Rounds presentation, Dr. Mark Neuman, Professor of Anesthesiology and Critical Care at Penn Medicine/University of Pennsylvania, analyzes the initial goals and lessons learned from the Regional versus General Anesthesia for Promoting Independence after Hip Fracture (REGAIN) trial. Dr. Neuman begins with an overview of the REGAIN trial design as well as its outcomes drawn from over 1,600 patients. Dr. Neuman concludes the session by reflecting on lessons learned about the value of pragmatic randomized trials in providing credible evidence to challenge assumptions and shift mindsets.
