@@James-lm6wtI agree. I’m a 42 yr old 5’6” and 138 lbs woman. So, not a tiny woman but certainly not a large strong woman. I would absolutely have to act. Especially, if I had another person with me who could run for help at that moment. I’d fight that psycho like I was crazier and meaner than he was! There’s no darn way I’d be able to leave a woman thrashing on the ground and gasping for air. My god. Horrific. With that said, I can imagine how scary it was for the witness. She said he gritted his teeth and threatened her. Still yet, I believe my rage would take over and I’d claw his eyeballs out. It’s appalling to me, how many people freely admit they wouldn’t step in. The only way I would be able to leave a woman in a horrid situation like that, would be if my children were with me. I’m not risking their lives. I’d just tell them to run and not dare stop until they found help and then once they were far enough away, I’d pounce! Ok, rant over. I’ve just seen so many comments lately from people saying they wouldn’t intervene. Shocks me every time and gets me going. Hence, this novel I’ve typed up! lol

If you just evade a suspect who seems to be up to "no good," and you see somebody about to head toward that general area you just escaped from; I think a warning word to the unwitting person of a possible danger ahead you just experienced, by doing that, you may save somebody's life. The lady who was running with her dog felt the man on a bike who kept following her. She had escaped from a dangerous situation, then soon enough, she encountered the eventual victim who pets her dog heading toward that direction; and yet she did not say anything to warn the eventual victim. This is an important missed opportunity to prevent something bad from happening to others. I am not blaming that lady. I am just reminding myself to warn people of what I personally feel and experience as a danger in the appropriate context, situation, and location to prevent bad things from happening to others. I would rather be wrong than sorry.

Maybe if we believed women more often when they DO report crime & we did NOT consistently minimise misogyny & the subsequent misogynist violence, we'd b more likely to report. And they might also actually bother to prosecute & convict perpetrators. As of now the vast majority of sexual violence goes unreported b/c we r terrified of victim blaming, judgement, accusations of lying, being torn to shreds by police & courts, and ALL the revictimisation that goes with it. Then of minority of SA actually reported, across Europe & the US, only between 7- 1% r actually prosecuted (yes u read correctly, eg. in Scotland it's usually around 5%, in England around 3%, in US many places as low as 1% & rest of western world broadly the same) and of those only around half get a conviction. Making rape across the western world defacto LEGAL. And then u ask, y don't u report. With all that EXTRA trauma that comes wi' reporting for such a tiny chance at justice. Everyone always outraged when these cases happen, but call us LIARS !& tell us not to ruin 'nice boys' lives when we report earlier, less serious SA offences which r part of this kind of offenders trajectory 😢

I’m guessing the families and friends of people who go missing in the States consider their loss just as huge and life altering. I wish they weren’t drowned out by the next big news. This case was in Europe, in Ireland, where these attacks are not as usual. Also, attacks (again, in Europe) don’t often happen this way, in the middle of the day by a stranger, people have felt safe going out for a run on their own. I still do, I walk my tiny white dog alone at midnight, my kids go gallivanting around the neighborhood on their own, my teenager goes for a run alone, we do not live in a world defined by fear. That’s why this case was so devastating for me. Also, the randomness of Ashling ending up as the victim, as he was clearly looking for one, makes this scary.

In no way am I blaming the witnesses for what happened in this horrific case. And I can understand that in some situations, you have to protect your own saftey first, depending on the circumstances. But still, this was so frustrating to listen to. They HEARD and even SAW the moments before the murder of Ashling, and still they choose to remove themselves from the situation (in order to get help). My question is, could Ashling Murphy still be alive today had they chose to stay and try to fight off Jozef Puška? I experienced something similar years ago. I was attacked in the middle of the city I live in. Although it was in the city center, it was in the middle of the night, on my way home from a pub and the attack happened in a very quiet avenue, where there were a lot of construction going on at that time. So not many people took that particular route. But for me it was a short cut in order to get to my bus stop. Three men, unbeknown to me, had followed me from the pub and decided to suddenly attack me, drag me behind a container and knock me to the ground. Then, while two of them pinned both me hands to the grown, the third one sat on top of me and started to rip off my cloths while hitting and biting me. I kicked and tried to scream as loud and as much as I could, but I knew my chances for rescue were limited because of the area I was in and the circumstances. Luckely my intens stomping and kicking of my legs and the noises I maneged to make, a group of two people on the far side of the avenue, who just happened to also walk through that path, noticed the commotion and started shouting «Ey! What’s going on? Stop!» Since I were in no position to yell for help back one would think this would end the same horrific way as in Ashling’s case. But instead of running to get help, the vitnesses choose to approach the situation and intervene. They managed to fight off the three guys on and pull me to safety. One called to police, while the other tried to hold the on of the guys in place until the police came. Unfortunately my all three of my attackers managed to escape before the police arrived and the police have never managed to catch them since. My point is, these two people chose to put themselves in a possible dangerous situation in order to try to help me. But I belive by them doing so and never leaving me alone with these three men after they saw what was going on, they saved my life that night. And for that I’m forever grateful.🙏🏾 May Ashling Murphy rest in peace.

I'm deeply sorry for this senseless tragedy. I am also sorry that it had been used so that once again women will continue to be regarded as eternal victims. I cannot understand why this senseless and vile murder was used to once again bring forth the issue of misogyny, an issue which exists more in the minds of those who feel it rather than a real issue. It is an illusion to think that women are in some way deserving of protection more than men or children. Violence happens against both men and women, and a significant amount of violence happens against men from women. It depends on how society is comfortable to define violence however. For we have now reached this stage of development where the meanings assigned to things depends largely on popularity and on which group stands to gain rather than on what the real term means. If we are man and woman enough we must definitely condone and take action against bustards such as this one who simply killed that lovely girl just for kicks. But we must also rise up against another senseless crime: that is abortion, which in some warped sense most regard as a 'human right'. How senseless, absurd, selfish and what not is that? I am a firm believer that until we really start working for justice, even if it will take away some of the things which may make life a bit easier for our group, there will be no end to tragedies such as this one. We can no longer have two weights and two measures. And unless we get real these abominable crimes continue to happen. They are just a reflection of what we have become.

How could you possibly see a woman in a physical fight with a man and just ignore it! I am not the type to get involved however, I would most definitely ask WTF? Do you know this person? If she said no, then of course I would ensure that you not touch her again or I will be forced to restrain you. I am making nice because my real thoughts would be vulgar in explanation.

This is the first argument that has ever convinced me there does exist mysogeny in deeply held beliefs. I have always thought mysogeny was a superficial, erotic game to denegrate women in their power with men. I was wrong. We do not want Shariyah law.

Women are second class citizens in most countries…is that a clue? When females are ‘subjugated’ what does that mean to you? It is the opposite of ‘freedom.’

Was this evil monster an Irish Citizen by any chance or another undocumented immigrant who doesn’t speak the language nor adapts to the local culture?? 😡😤 That has to stop! If that was the case, close all borders(here in Canada as well!) What a tragic and horrific loss for her boyfriend, family and friends.😢😔 May your light shine even brighter beautiful young soul….😇 RIP Ashling🙏🏼🌹🕊️

NO b/c vast more misogynistic murder is perpetrated by WHITE men, even as a % of population, but aye nice try wi' yer racist guff. So sad u would use this heinous crime to rule a hateful ideology. Also at same time trying to minimise the role of misogyny, the actual real cause of physical & sexual violence against women & children, Your hateful BS is equally dangerous, abhorrent & insulting to survivors & victims of misogynist violence & also the root of racial violence, hate & injustices 😢
