A rare treat, I saw the touring production of Evita before the (!) in the ealry 90's at the Bournemouth Pavilion. Rebecca Storm was and is unforgettable, her fully formed Eva in every mood and essence held the audience the entire evening. Her ability to belt as well lull in her silvery tones made it all the more entrancing, and the acting. Aside from the balcony scene, The Waltz I can still see in my head now vividly bought to life in this video. Thank you. (my only annoyance, at the time, and on re watching are the truly terrible wigs RS had to perform under)

Anyone else notice that Eva’s choreography upon the exit of the aristocrats in “Buenos Aires” is simplified from the original Larry Fuller staging? Did this production have a different choreographer?

yes I think this was ran by a different company

This IS Larry Fuller’s choreography recreated by Ken Urmston who was the dance captain on Broadway and worked with Larry on restaging the show. The main difference between this and the original is that there were originally 9 Aristocrats. Also, this version cuts the “Devil Dance” - it was around 16 measures of hardcore dancing. The European companies (and some of the US tours) always cut it and go straight to the end. I’ve only done that section once - on the US tour with Donna Marie Asbury.

I love her version of ‘A New Argentina’. Somewhat unique in style. She is a great Evita. Lots of ‘growls’ here and there. I’ve only seen her live once. That was as Florence in Chess. She was great in that role too.

My favourite Eva is undoubtedly Rebecca Storm and the best Che I have seen is Chris Corcoran .

Why is Magaldi gay? They lowered all the keys in the Act 1 because she can't sing the score

Really? In which songs are the keys lowered?

Kevin Wilson Yes, you’re right. I hadn’t noticed that on first viewing. They are slightly lower. I still think she sounds great in ‘A New Argentina’, though. ‘Buenos Aires’ is less impressive, however.

@@scampsweep I think you may be mistaking pitch and key, the key is as per the original score and Hal Prince's staging. Rebecca delivers a more pop orientated performance similar to Julie Covington. Other Evita's either belt Lupone or rely on head voice Paige / Ackerman. Either way they're all singing in the same key. Madonna was allowed to sing in a lower key maybe not because of abilty but medium. Rebecca's performance here is compelling, what everyone is watching here is a stage performance, before digital sound enhancement. Natural voices, singing a difficult score - try it yourselves and then judge : -)

Hi - I had this video converted to digital after it sat in my closet for over 25 years. I can confirm 100% that the show was sung in the original keys. Unfortunately, the tape degrades and that may be why it sounds lower.
