Since this video was created there are 4 more notable skyscrapers in Center City: Comcast Technology Center (1,121', 2018), W Hotel (617', 2020), The Laurel (604' 2022), and Arthaus (528', 2022). I would also include the FMC Tower (736', 2016) which is just across the Schuylkill River.

Very good vid. However would be better if the map rotated very little to keep the observers orientation stationary long enough to get an idea where they are within their cognitive maps. More detail would be welcomed also.

I love these videos. I personally would prefer them at half or even a third of that speed though, just so you can focus on the changes for longer.

You're right and I'm not looking to start any arguments ... but ... real old timers, native Philadelphians, still call it "downtown."

Ummm cars are called vehicles, automobiles, rides, whips etc...so explain to me why it’s center city and not downtown? It’s whatever one prefers. However people have been saying downtown much longer I’m sure.

@@omarsaleem3076 It's just the philadelphian way. Just like "wooder" instead of water, or "crick" instead of river. I've lived in philly all my life and ive really only called it center city. But alot of the time "downtown" and "center city" are used interchangeably depending on the context.

Jason_P_Lind I agree...it’s funny, I live in south Philly, and I called it downtown all my life..lol....another thing that is interesting....north philly being called “uptown” when I was younger, I never heard anyone refer to north philly as uptown..And nowadays we have all new neighborhoods or name changes such as Newbold and center city south

Very cool video! I grew up outside Philly - since 1972. Remember very well what it looked like before new construction was allowed to be any taller than City Hall - William Penn's hat (548 ft.) - Recall that changed with the plans in the early 80s of the "new" Liberty Place - I did get some construction pics of that in high school as it already towered over City Hall. - and a planed Twin skyscraper - at the time seemed exciting since it reminded me Philly may look like NYC, the old WTC ...ok just not as tall obviously (2 Liberty Place - not an 'identical twin'). Once completed - the skyline was dramatically different also a little odd at the time. This single towering skyscraper in the city. Of course this was said to start "The Curse Of William Penn" - Crazy myth with us Philly Sports fans that Penn punished ALL Philly teams from winning championships - the last one at the time was 1983 with the 76'ers. In 2008, a tiny William Penn statute was place on the top of the new Comcast Center - tallest in Philly at the time-...and then The Phillies won the World Series 🤔lol. LOT of changes since then. Fast forward to 2008, the Comcast Center (lot of people say it looks like "USB Storage" device) Then in the past 1-2 years, even more towers have popped up. The Comcast 2 (Comcast Technology Center) next to Comcast 1 is finally complete at 1,121 ft. - (and this many say looks like one of fancy Vape Pens..lol) Just west about 10, 15 blocks of Center City/Downtown over the Schuylkill River, the FMC Tower, at 730 ft. All glass, and looks very cool at night with animated strips of LED lights. All part of the growing Cira Centre / Green South area near 30th Street Station. Lot of plans proposed for that space in the next 10 years. Lot more towering buildings.

You got the order of some buildings wrong. It should go: One Commerce Square 1986, One Liberty Place 1987, G. Fred DiBona Jr. Building 1988, Three Logan Square 1989, Two Liberty Place and BNY Mellon Center 1990

My husband was an Ironworker (loc.401) who worked on many of those builings. I now hear my grandchildren say, "Pop-pop built that" any time we drive through Center City.
