I came across the church in Ewelme quite by accident when out cycling with friends some years ago. What a surprise to find that the door to the church was not locked, and there was that wonderful tomb of Geoffrey Chaucer's granddaughter. Astonishing that it is largely undamaged in the over 500 years since she was interred. That's a great deal closer to the Norman Conquest than to our own time. The place just feels steeped in history, and is out of the way. That and those wonderful alms houses and what is meant to be the oldest state school building in the country. A must visit if you are in the area.

There is a house by the village store called Kings Pool House, Mary Woodrow lived there and I used to do house work for her when I was a teen. My sister who died age 4 is buried in in the graveyard opposite the church, so is Mary Woodrow. I went to Ewelme primary school and my teacher George Cannon is buried in the old church yard back of the church as is actor Jeremy Childs. I married my first husband in Ewelme Church 1982 I think.

oh Lord, I hope I did nto commit any gross errors then! The one thing I was a bit sad about was that I couldn't confidently locate the Primitive Methodist Chapel; obviously the Weslyan one is now the village shop!

I love you David. Splendid video. I’d call my pool the “Queens Pool” anytime if her Royal Maj came in for a dip once. Or even just walked by.

It's rather a nice thought isn't it? I rather like the idea that it was called King's p pool l before that, and the idea of a young Henry VIII coming to see his equally wild mote, Charles Brandon and having a dip together, is rather fun.

@@historyofengland it's rumoured Henry lost a ring in King's Pool. Ann Boleyn used to stay with him in Ewelme Manor, I know that place like the back of my hand as Ted Smith and his wife Elaine and children lived there for ages, I went out with their son Chris. It would be great if you could do similar about Ewelme Manor if current inhabitants would let you, that would be a brilliant watch.
