I'm not a Catholic for various reasons including the praying to saints, angels and Mary. God is sovereign and Jesus said pray to the Father in my name and he will grant you your requests. He never said pray to anyone else. Jesus said you must be born again to enter the kingdom of heaven, John 3:3, which refers of the baptism of the Holy Spirit. John said Jesus would baptise in Spirit and in fire. I don't think Catholics consider this. I do agree with the Venial sin idea though. The Bible says there is the resurrection of the dead, the just and the unjust (Acts 24:25) at the great white throne judgment, Revelation 20-22, on the new earth. Those that have not been wicked are resurrected back into life. Saints never died because their sins are forgiven so they are not judged. John 11:25. It's not only saints that live in future.

What he calls the "second" commandment, we consider to be part of the first. And it has not been removed from the catechism. In fact, paragraphs 2129-2132 of the Catechism of the Catholic Church address this in depth. * IV. "YOU SHALL NOT MAKE FOR YOURSELF A GRAVEN IMAGE . . ."> 2129 The divine injunction included the prohibition of every representation of God by the hand of man. Deuteronomy explains: "Since you saw no form on the day that the Lord spoke to you at Horeb out of the midst of the fire, beware lest you act corruptly by making a graven image for yourselves, in the form of any figure. . . . "66 It is the absolutely transcendent God who revealed himself to Israel. "He is the all," but at the same time "he is greater than all his works."67 He is "the author of beauty."68 2130 Nevertheless, already in the Old Testament, God ordained or permitted the making of images that pointed symbolically toward salvation by the incarnate Word: so it was with the bronze serpent, the ark of the covenant, and the cherubim.69 2131 Basing itself on the mystery of the incarnate Word, the seventh ecumenical council at Nicaea (787) justified against the iconoclasts the veneration of icons - of Christ, but also of the Mother of God, the angels, and all the saints. By becoming incarnate, the Son of God introduced a new "economy" of images. 2132 The Christian veneration of images is not contrary to the first commandment which proscribes idols. Indeed, "the honor rendered to an image passes to its prototype," and "whoever venerates an image venerates the person portrayed in it."70 The honor paid to sacred images is a "respectful veneration," not the adoration due to God alone: Religious worship is not directed to images in themselves, considered as mere things, but under their distinctive aspect as images leading us on to God incarnate. The movement toward the image does not terminate in it as image, but tends toward that whose image it is.71

Having seen both sides of the coin, when I hear Mike Gendron talk about the “Roman Catholic Church” - first off all, Catholics in America just don’t use that term, we’re just Catholics. That’s a dead giveaway right there that he doesn’t know what he’s talking about. At least interview someone that actually knows the faith. We have a saying in Catholicism and it holds true - “Strong Protestants make good Catholics, weak Catholics make good Protestants.” If you look at all the scholarly men and women that have left Protestantism for Catholicism, the list is quite long - Jimmy Akin, Peter Kreeft, Scott Hahn, Steve Ray, John Bergsma, Keith Nester, Matt Swaim, Ken Hensley, Kenny Burchard, oh and most recently - Candace Owens. What you don’t see is conversions going the other way; you don’t have very well catechized Priests, Deacons, Nuns, and Theologians that jump ship to be Protestant.

When protestants share their testimony of belatedly entering into a personal relationship with Jesus after having been raised protestant and attending bible believing churches regularly, they often blame themselves for not having been paying attention or caring about what their churches must have been faithfully preaching and teaching. It’s true. Think of Mac powell’s great song (3rd day singer) called 1991. Read the lyrics of that song and if it was a Catholic than it would be written differently- Would put the blame on the Church instead of here in this song recognizing it was the same old story he had heard again and again (even if he didn’t recognize it before). Even if you happen in a parish that has a priest That has poor homilies or doesn’t explain things well- one will never hear more scripture than in a Catholic mass or see truth all around them. Every Catholic Church has a large crucifix of our Savior Jesus Christ at the center of the parish by the alter. “Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world” is stated by the people every mass. I could go on and on. There is a blame and pride with poorly catechized Catholics or ones that never paid attention at mass that is different with Protestant Christians who start to understand basic components of Christianity. One (for Protestants) often is gratitude like in Mac Lowell’s song. One (for ignorant Catholics like the guy above) is blaming and misrepresenting Catholic teaching.

But if you read the criticisms of the anti-Catholics, they are really rejecting the Real Presence, which is also taught by Lutherans. They are not just criticizing Catholic sacraments; they are criticizing the very idea of Sacraments. They are not just criticizing the Catholic view of Baptism; they are criticizing the Biblical view of Baptism. They are explicitly rejecting the Catholic view of Baptism, but the alternative they put forward is no biblical view, but rather a secular view. We can say “we don’t worship Mary” and give all the reasons why, and it seems like they just turn around immediately after and say “they worship Mary.” I think there’s a lack of respect from some Protestants towards Catholics that leads them to not even be able to say we are all brothers and sisters in Christ. I’m a cradle Catholic and the only thing I can ever remember learning about Protestants in my 12+ years of Catholic education was that while there are some differences, we are ultimately brothers and sisters in Christ.

Dr White will clarify that he has thoroughly examined the Catechism and believes his insights highlight significant doctrinal issues within Catholicism. He insists that accurate representation of these teachings is crucial for honest discourse. Bennett, drawing from his experience as a former Catholic priest, will assert that his perspective is rooted in a sincere understanding of Catholic doctrine. In the passage above Jesus compares the one who "feeds on him" DIRECTLY with his own relationship with his Father. v 57. He does not physically "eat" his Father. He is speaking of an intimate relationship of trust and submission. Notice in v 63 he is pains to say that his words are speaking of spiritual matters, not physical.... Even in the nuances of Catholic theology, one thing is certain Jesus isn’t enough. The Bible plainly teaches that faith in Christ’s finished work is what justifies and makes us right before God and nothing else (Galatians 2:16, Romans 4:5). Christ’s righteousness becomes attributed by faith, just as it was for Abraham (Romans 4). You’re a sinner (Romans 3:10,23). And there is no merits through a church or otherwise that can get you to heaven. Only by faith in Christ a man will find himself in heaven, dump the religion and come to Christ. He will justify you, he is man’s only intercessor, nothing else will cut it. The wages of sin is death and eternal separation from God (Romans 6:23, Revelation 21:8; 20:15). Trust in God’s Word which states faith in Christ justifies lest you miss the narrow gate.

Now this explanation is quite easy to explain, but you have to understand the tenor of scripture. One it doesn't contradict. Read Roman's 11:6 . I think it will help anyone on the fence when it comes to this truth about grace and works.

@@davidmoran4506 if you think the Catholic Church teaches you are saved by works you don’t know the faith. It shows an ignorance in your understanding. Catholics agree that we are saved by faith, belief, baptism, Eucharist and obedience to God, these are all necessary to have what is called a saving faith. So no it’s not faith alone however it is not saved by works. That’s an ancient heresy called Pelagianism that was condemned in the like 5th century or so. We are saved by faith through grace. Faith and love could be used as a better descriptor. Perhaps you aren’t Catholic because you’re not aware of what the faith taught. This is common for those who leave out of theological ignorance.

The Lord speaks to us in the depths of our conscience, he speaks to us through Sacred Scripture, he speaks to us in prayer. Learn to stay before him in silence, to read and meditate on the Bible, especially the Gospels, to converse with him every day in order to feel his presence of friendship and love.” “Everyone should carry a small Bible or pocket edition of the Gospels and should find at least a few minutes every day to read the word of God.” “A Bible for every family! …Not to place it on a shelf, but to keep it at hand, to read it often, every day, both individually and together, husband and wife, parents and children, maybe in the evening, especially on Sundays. This way the family grows, walks, with the light and power of the Word of God!” The Bible is not a beautiful collection of sacred books to study - it is the Word of Life to be sown.” “The Bible is the best vaccine against closure and self-preservation. It is the Word of God, not ours, and it takes us away from being at the centre, preserving us from self-sufficiency and triumphalism, constantly calling us to come out of ourselves.” Through prayer, a new incarnation of the Word takes place. And we are the “tabernacles” where the words of God want to be welcomed and preserved, so that they may visit the world. This is why we must approach the Bible without ulterior motives, without exploiting it. The believer does not turn to the Holy Scriptures to support his or her own philosophical and moral view, but because he or she hopes for an encounter…” “The Word inspires good intentions and sustains action; it gives us strength and serenity, and even when it challenges us, it gives us peace. Allie, you are wonderful, truly, but this is incredibly inaccurate and it is unfair for you to have someone on your podcast who is spreading false information about the Catholic Church. If we are always seeking truth, which we should be because God IS truth, then to have someone come on that is speaking false information about a Church that he isn't even a part of is completely the opposite of searching for truth. Catholics do not believe they are saved by works. The Council of Trent did not ban the reading or possession of the bible. Rather, it affirmed that the Latin Vulgate Bible was the correct translation of the Bible. The Latin Vulgate was translated in the late 300s AD and was used for centuries after by everyone until the Protestant Reformation. So now because Martin Luther says so, we just follow him? The Catholics did not add any books to the Bible, but rather, the protestants removed them because in 2 Maccabees, for example, it speaks about praying for dead people. Luther wasn't a fan, so he took it out, along with the rest of the Deuterocanonical books. The commentary about how the Bible is infallible is accurate, but to then say that we "test every mans teaching using God's inspire word" -- so, just church hop until you find a church that aligns with what you believe is the "correct" interpretation? There's no such thing as "your truth" when it comes to following God. He is Truth. The extensive division within Protestentism shows how everyone can read the same verse and interpret it differently. Honestly I probably won't even finish this episode because it's incredibly frustrating and unfair. Please have someone come on who actually is Catholic and knows the Church's teaching, Church history, and can paint an accurate picture of the Catholic Church, not a picture of what you want it to be because you don't want it to be correct.

"The true church". Therein lies the problem. I read the Bible; Where does it say in the Bible to pray to Mary, angels and saints rather than the Father in the name of Jesus? Jesus said pray to the Father. The Bible says call no man Father. So why do they call priests, father. Why can't priests marry. That's not in the Bible. Do they read where it says you must be born again to enter the kingdom of heaven, John 3:3. That the Holy Spirit must indwell you and that you are sanctified by the word and the Holy Spirit. Jesus baptised with the Holy Spirit and fire. Where does it say that Mary is the queen of heaven or the mediatrix, the mediator between man and God? Why have they changed the second commandment, thou shalt have no idol and not bow down to them. The Rosary is not in the Bible. It doesn't have this idea of praying fixed prayers to atone for sins. You simply pray to Jesus or the Father and repent and genuinely strive not to sin. God knows your heart. These are just some issues I have. I do however believe in Venial sin in that there is a sin unto the death of the soul which is wicked and there is sin which is forgiven. Acts 24:15 says there is the resurrection of the dead, the just and the unjust. So people that have not been wicked from all backgrounds go back into life one the new earth. (Revelation 20-22). The great white throne judgment.

The prayers of the righteous do much and if we are surrounded by a crowd of witnesses as Hebrews tells us, why not ask for their help? 2. You are reading Matthew 23 literally, but Jesus did not intend his statement to be literal. If Jesus wanted no one to call a man father or rabbi as he said in those verses, Stephen and the Apostle Paul would be breaking his commandment. In addition, we call our fathers “dad” and our doctors “doctor” all the time. Doctor means teacher. Are we breaking Jesus’ command?

@@flatearthevidence8473 yes we read John 3 at Mass and believe it fully. Mary is in the Bible as the queen of heaven in Revelation 12 when she appears in heaven with a crown on her head as she gives birth to Jesus. The Church has not declared Mary as the mediatrix, that’s a common misconception. The second commandment stands. You shall not make a graven image. However Exodus 20 does not prohibit making likelinesses or statutes. If it did, God wouldn’t instruct the Israelites in Exodus 25 to make the Ark of the Covenant complete with cherubim figures on it. You’re right, the rosary is not in the Bible. It does not save us from our sins - only Jesus does that. It is merely a thoughtful prayer and meditation on Christ’s life. Not everything that Christians believe or do is in the Bible, including the belief in Sola scriptura.

The true Gospel is revealed in the inspired, ignorant Word of God. God's Perfection - HE IS HOLY God is majestic in holiness (Exodus 15:11). Righteousness and justice are the foundation of His throne (Psalm 97:2). God is a righteous judge (Psalm 7:11). He cannot tolerate wickedness (Habakkuk 1:13). Nothing in all creation is hidden from God's sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of Him to whom we must give an account (Hebrews 4:13). Those who worship God must worship in spirit and truth (John 4:24). Man's Problem - ALL HAVE SINNED All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). Your iniquities have separated you from your God; and your sins have hidden His face from you (Isaiah 59:2). There is no one righteous, not even one (Romans 3:10). We are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags (Isaiah 64:6). The soul who sins shall die (Ezekiel 18:4). It is appointed for men to die once and after this comes judgment (Hebrews 9:27). The lake of fire is the second death (Revelation 20:14). Unless a man is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God (John 3:3). Without holiness no one will see the Lord (Hebrews 12:14). God's Provision - A SAVIOR Jesus Christ is the blessed hope...our great God and Savior (Titus 2:13). He is the image of the invisible God...in Him all the fullness of Deity dwells in bodily form (Colossians. 1:15; 2:9). For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life (John 3:16). God made Him (Jesus) who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him (2 Corinthians 5:21). Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many people (Hebrews 9:28). Christ suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God (1 Peter 3:18). He (Jesus) is able to save completely those who come to God through Him (Hebrews 7:25). There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12). Man's Part - REPENT AND BELIEVE "What must I do to be saved?" (Acts 16:30). Repent and Believe the Gospel (Mark 1:15). By this Gospel you are saved...that Christ died for our sins...that He was buried, that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures (1 Corinthians 15:2-4). The Gospel is the power of God for the salvation of all who believe it (Romans 1:16). If you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord" and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified and with your mouth that you confess and are saved (Romans 10:9-10). Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation (2 Corinthians 7:10). God's Promise - ETERNAL LIFE These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, in order that you may know that you have eternal life (1 John 5:13). Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God's wrath remains on him (John 3:36). Jesus said, "I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, no one can snatch them out of my Father's hand" (John 10:28-29). God's gifts and His call are irrevocable (Romans 11:29). How Will You Respond to God's Word? There is only one way to be saved - by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone. "For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast." (Ephesians 2:8-9). And if by grace, then it is no longer by works; if it were, grace would no longer be grace (Romans 11:6). You must cease from trusting in anything you DO to save yourself and put all your trust in Jesus and what He has DONE - His sacrificial death on Calvary's cross and His resurrection from the dead. This will give you a permanent right standing before God!

I have only listened to the first 15 mins or so of this interview, but already there are multiple incorrect assertions about Catholics and Church history. One of the most obvious and egregious is when he states that the Council of Trent "actually placed the Bible on the list of forbidden books." There is no truth in this claim. During the 4th session (2nd decree) of the Council of Trent, the Synod reaffirmed the position it had taken for over 1,000 years that the officially-approved Latin edition for the Church was the Latin Vulgate translated by St. Jerome in the late 4th century. Within this decree, the Synod also stated that any other translations of the Bible were not acceptable unless approved by the Pope. This was especially prudent given the invention of the printing press only 100 years earlier and the rapid printing of multiple different translations and interpretations of Scripture. But nowhere did they add the Bible to a forbidden book list. The 4th Session of the Council of Trent can also be used to refute another erroneous claim by Mr. Gendron. In their first decree, they affirmed the accepted Canon of Scripture, which was (once again) St. Jerome's Latin Vulgate. They confirmed that all of the books in the Latin Vulgate that had been used in the celebration of the Holy Mass for over 1,000 years were part of the Catholic Canon. The deuterocanonical books (referred to by Mr. Gendron as apocryphal books) were in St. Jerome's Latin Vulgate, were used in the celebration of the Mass, and were, therefore, part of official Church Canon. It is wholly inaccurate to suggest that the Catholic Church frantically searched for these books to "add to scripture" in order to justify its recognition of purgatory. They had been in the Latin Vulgate, and thus an integral part of the Catholic Church, for over 1,000 years. I anticipate Mr. Gendron's response will be to dismiss this fact and assert that it is irrelevant because the celebration of Mass is just a tradition with no bearing on the written word. Beyond the fact of the deuterocanonical books being written in the Vulgate, Scripture itself refutes this dismissal in 2 Thess 2:15: "Stand firm and hold to the traditions that were taught to us either by word of mouth or by letter." Throughout the history of the Church, oral transmission of information and adherence to tradition were the only practical means of sustaining the Church. Before peddling more falsehoods about the Council of Trent, I suggest Mr. Gendron and Allie Beth read the decrees here: www.thecounciloftrent.com/ch4.htm Mr. Gendron later points to Acts 17:11 as an example of the primacy of Scripture above all else, implying that as Paul is preaching to a crowd, they are actively fact-checking him against the written Word. The implication is that a large group of Gentiles is so familiar with the Hebrew Scripture that they can quickly cross-reference Paul's information with their scrolls. This is (at best) misleading for several reasons. In the verse immediately preceding this one, it clearly states that Paul is speaking to a group of Jews at a synagogue, not to Gentiles who were unfamiliar with Jewish teaching. Furthermore, best estimates of literacy rates in the first century put it somewhere around 10% in highly urbanized areas, and closer to 3% generally (ehrmanblog.org/how-many-people-were-literate-in-antiquity/). So to imply that vast hoards of listeners were all gathered with their Bibles (which didn't even exist at that time) to fact-check Paul is nonsense. The apostles had to spread the Word of God verbally and through adherence to traditions that were initiated by Christ, himself. I think it's worth mentioning that like most other Catholics who have responded, I have never once had a priest tell me not to read the Bible. To the extent that Mr. Gendron's memory and recounting of all his interactions with priests (including his uncle) are accurate, I would suggest he was the unfortunate victim of extremely poor Catechesis and spiritual direction. Whichever diocese this happened in is in need of spiritual renewal and proper education on Catholic doctrine. There are several other points just within the first 15 mins that I would like to address at some point, but I do not have the time now. And I have no doubt that there are many more inaccuracies in the last 35 minutes of the podcast, if I can ever manage to make it through.

It's the ENTIRELY opposite claim, the Church NEVER forbade the usage of English bibles. The Church approved translation to English back then was the Douay-Rheims version. It's older than the King James, and in some ways the KJV was based off the DRV. It's still in usage by many. You were encouraged to read the Bible. I don't know where you got the 1966 date there. Galatians 1 Paul, an apostle, (not of men, neither by man, but by Jesus Christ, and God the Father, who raised him from the dead;) 2 And all the brethren which are with me, unto the churches of Galatia: 3 Grace be to you and peace from God the Father, and from our Lord Jesus Christ, 4 Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father: 5 To whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen. 6 I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: 7 Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. 8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. 9 As we said before, so say I now again, if any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed. 10 For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ. 11 But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man. 12 For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ.

@@alisterrebelo9013 , the more I read about church history, the more appealing I find the apostolic churches. I love the sacraments, Mary and the Eucharist , which we believe Jesus is actually present. I found other denominations to do to much feel good preaching , not enough about your soul and being in mortal sin , which you DO NOT want to be in when you die. Too many protestants I know sin and say , well that's what Jesus died for. I have a relationship with Jesus. I talk to him every day. These opinions are so biased and specific to a person, and clearly by the comments you can tell that many Catholics do actually read the bible and disagree with many of these points. You clearly get a lot of views on these type of videos so you keep doing them. Focus on your own religion and the flaws in it! All religions are flawed and with a religion as big and complex as the Catholic church of course there is much to say! But you can’t assume one person’s opinions represent all

As a protestant convert to Catholicism, this man is sadly mis or ill informed about what Catholics believe and the Church teaches. There are so many cultural Catholics and cultural Christians in general. This is akin to having a cultural protestant Christian who "left the faith" talk to an agnostic about what Christians believe. The interview with Trent Horn was a good start - but as others have mentioned, having on Scott Hahn or Michael Knowles or anybody who is a practicing Catholic would be better. Theology is rich and deep and takes more than a one hour conversation to unpack. That's why the Church has RCIA classes for 9 months for those seeking to convert as it takes time to unpack all of the teachings and understand them more in depth ◡̈

A few other places to start to learn- Brant pitre (his KZitem videos, lectures and talks on the daily scripture readings for each mass are amazing. His books are too). I’d recommend two of his books - Jesus and the Jewish roots of the Eucharist/Jesus and the Jewish Roots of Mary. Jimmy akın is great (books/podcsts). Maybe start with his book the fathers know best. Some solid podcasts to start with: Shameless popery Counsel of Trent Catholic answers Pints with aquinus I like the book called evangelical is not enough by Thomas Howard (elizabethhr Eliot’s brother). It’s not a book written to make you become Catholic. He wrote it as an Anglican Christian. This is sad to have this man on misrepresenting Catholicism. I am a Protestant who has been researching Catholicism for the last almost 3 years and what is truly taught by the Catholic Church. I started out watching what this man had to say and reading what he wrote (he was recommended my by sister in law) and later found SO many misrepresentations and flat out lies that he portrayed Catholicism taught that they truly don't. I went to other Protestant sources wanting to know what they thought about Catholicism and found the same ignorance. When I began learning straight from the source what the Catholic Church stood for and taught my eyes were opened to the deception and ignorance that so many Protestants have towards Catholicism. It is so sad! Humbling ourselves, asking for God to lead us into all truth, choosing to have charitable conversations with our brothers and sisters in Christ who believe differently than we do and truly wanting to understand why rather than simply wanting to win an argument will go a long way. After years of research with my Bible open and my heart humbled to truly hear the leading of the Holy Spirit our whole family will be confirmed into the Catholic Church this coming Easter. We choose to follow Christ no matter the cost. Several other strong and faithful protestants have made the same journey Scott Hahn, Keith Nester, Steve Ray, Marcus Grodi, Jimmy Akin, Tim Staples...just to name a few off of the top of my head. Interviewing someone like Scott Hahn would be incredibly insightful for your listeners. He has nothing bad to say about his protestant roots, he is thankful, but reading the Bible truly led him into Christ's Church...the Catholic Church.

We will all be held responsible for knowing and believing what the Bible reveals. Paul commands believers to be involved in hermeneutics: “Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who . . . correctly handles the word of truth” (2 Tim. 2:15). Passages must be interpreted literally, historically, grammatically, and contextually. We are to understand the Bible in its normal or plain meaning, unless the passage is obviously intended to be symbolic or if figures of speech are employed. The Bible says what it means and means what it says.

Those who worship God must worship in spirit and truth (John 4:24). Man's Problem - ALL HAVE SINNED All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). There is no one righteous, not even one (Romans 3:10). We are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags (Isaiah 64:6). The soul who sins shall die (Ezekiel 18:4). The wages of sin is death (Rom. 6:23).The lake of fire is the second death (Revelation 20:14). Unless a man is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God (John 3:3). God's Provision - A SAVIOR Jesus Christ is the blessed hope...our great God and Savior (Titus 2:13).

@@reeseleau63729 his website states the following.... For over 30 years, Evangelist Mike Gendron was a devout Roman Catholic and a strong defender of the "one true church." He was taught from a very early age, to trust and rely on the church, its priests, the sacraments, and his own good works for salvation. However in 1981 while attending an evangelical seminar, he realized the Bible is the supreme authority for knowing truth. His new excitement and hunger for the inspired word of God led him to help organize the very first Little Rock Scripture Study at a Catholic Church in Dallas. Mike soon realized that many of the teachings and traditions of the Catholic religion were not found in the Bible. After more study, he discovered the Roman Catholic plan of salvation was diametrically opposed to the Gospel of grace that is revealed in the Bible. After discerning that God seeks worshippers in spirit and truth, Mike left the Catholic Church in 1985 for a church where the true Gospel is proclaimed and the Scriptures are the final authority in all matters of faith. In 1988 he left a successful career in corporate management to study at Dallas Theological Seminary. Four years later, during his last semester at DTS, Mike and his wife Janeʼs love for Catholics inspired them to begin a ministry that would point Catholics to the Lord Jesus Christ as their all sufficient Savior. Their hearts are now burdened for those who may be where they were for most of their life - eternally condemned and not even aware of it. Their international ministry, Proclaiming the Gospel, which is now 22 years old, has developed many resources to equip and encourage Christians to be effective witnesses to Roman Catholics.

Another inaccuracy was around the 47:00 minute mark, where he pulls a single quote from some priest to argue the Church teaches that Christ is pulled off of His throne and resacrificed at each Mass. The Church officially teaches that Christ is NOT resacrificed at Mass, but that we simply become partakers in His once-and-for-all sacrifice (Catechism 1327). The Church also teaches that the Priest isn't a separate actor pulling Christ down from heaven, but rather is acting in the very person of Christ when speaking Christ's words from the Last Supper (Catechism 1548). I could go on and on. Even by the 5 minute mark of the video, there were already many strawmans and bad faith arguments.

It was reading my Bible and digging deeper that brought me to Catholicism.

Have you read the book of Jeremiah? Jeremiah 7: 18, and Jeremiah 44: 17-25 more specifically.

I am praying for Mike and his followers. His views are twisted and unproductive. He is a caricature of anti-Catholicism but still very dangerous. I was raised in a Baptist family and they eat this stuff up. As a Catholic, I try to explain actual Church teaching and they ignore me. To those who give any credit at all to what Mike preaches please take this quote under consideration: “There are not one hundred people in the United States who hate The Catholic Church, but there are millions who hate what they wrongly perceive the Catholic Church to be.” ― Fulton J. Sheen
