Got my Philippines Driver's license in Panabo City, Mindanao. 450 pesos medical and something like 845 pesos LTO. They wanted 6 months remaining on a visa. I got my ACR card, then got my second six months extension, then quickly went to LTO. DL in hand in 2 hours. No problems. They were very kind to me.

Thanks for covering this Paul! I was very fortunate coming in on a Balikbayan visa with my Filipina wife. We went to the main LTO office in Manila and were both able to get our PDL (on-the-spot) after being in country only about two weeks. In preparation for our LTO visit, we got our medical exam at a LTO-approved (a must) site in the Venice mall (very fast and simple). It was valuable to get it get many things done in Manila before coming down to our Dumaguete destination.

Thanks for the info!! Funny about the accident will be your fault. I lived in Saudi Arabia for 3 years and if you were in an accident, it was automatically your fault since "you should not have been here in the first place". The driving test in Saudi was also funny, I was crammed in a car with 4 teenagers (all males since at that time females could not get licenses) and the test car was a clutch. The kids had a very hard time with the clutch. We would do a circle on the test route and arrive back at the station and the driver would be let out without their paper stamped. This happened until it was my turn. The officer turned to me and asked if I could drive a clutch, I replied yes and he stamped my paper without driving. He was obviously fed up but also had decided from the beginning I did not need the driving test and kept me until last. Still not sure why we all had to pack inside the car to start with.

Hi: Dale from Seattle. Good information. You are correct in that every LTO will have somewhat different procedures, requirements and questions. A very good idea to take along a friend who is familiar with the language and procedures. If you are really worried about it, try to hire a "Fixer" These are people who you pay to help you. And as you say, stay calm. Trying to understand what is being asked is good, arguing is not good. It is OK to look and act a little confused. Getting frustrated or angry will not go well for you.

I knew a guy back in 2015 (Not me 🤣🤣) who's girlfriend had a friend working at a particular LTO office. That guy scored a 98 on the written test without ever taking it. Plus, he had no ACR, and no medical certificate. Got a Philippines license which covered both 4-wheel nonprofessional and motorcycles. He sure was a happy Camper. Not sure if that is still possible nowadays. Just renewed my Texas license for 8 years, will be getting an int'l license this week.

Hi. Vince here. Very helpful. This is my experience as a 'tourist' married to a Filipino when I tried to convert my UAE car license. 2014, LTO, Cebu City: sorry, you must have been in the country for 1 year. 2022, LTO, Balamban: I managed to convert my car license on the spot. Eye test only. I didn't go through with the application though as I wanted a motorbike designation added and they would not offer me a test. I was told to do the motorbike test overseas. So I did. Let's see if things go smoothly in May. Their rules state a waiting period of 6 months. Nothing about an ACR card btw

Since mine was expired, I had to go through the whole process. I got a 56 out of 60 on the written test and then was told that I would have to take the driving test. I gave the examiner 500 pesos and then received a 84 out of a hundred on that test. Hahaha… Twenty minutes later I had my license…

Maybe things have changed, International licences were only valid for three months from date of arrival. I was pinged for no licence on that issue on 1989. This was after I was charged with parking at a "No Parking" sign which had appeared after I'd parked. In fairness it may have been a time of the day restriction that I didn't know about, or it may have been a straighty shake-down. The arresting officer took me to a traffic police station where the seargent discovered that I didn't have a valid licence, I'd been in country for four months and only had the International licence. He took pity on me, he decided not to charge me if I made a donation to his family charity. It was all rather jovial, he thought it rather funny. He then sent me to the LTO, where it was discovered that because my licence was from a left-driving country, I would have to go to the Provincial capital and take a driving test. Again pity was taken on me, and for the price of a donation to the welfare fund, they waived the test requirement. Surprisingly this was all done in a matter of hours.

I got my license back in early 2015 at the main Quezon city LTO office in the National Capital Region. Took two trips but it wasn't that difficult. The medical test consisted for me of a eye test and sitting in a chair moving my legs and feet to make sure I could operate the pedals😂. The hardest part was getting the lady that took me to the LTO was getting her past the fixers. I had heard about them already. It cost me 150php for the exam and I know it was under 900php seem like 879 php for my license back then. The worst part of the whole process was that I broke 2 cameras trying to take my picture and had to wait for like a hour for somebody to fix the camera. Yes I filled out some paperwork and my US driver's licence along with my Alien card. Everybody told me you needed a urine test as well but they never took it or asked. Make sure your clear about wanting a motorcycle endorsement on your license just like in the states.

@@PaulWorldZoom yes you want to avoid fixers at all cost. They have the same computers right next door to the LTO office and will give you a license for 10-15-up to 30k if they think they can milk it out of you. Then you get a fake license that was never downloaded or verified into the main LTO Database. Very very bad especially if you get caught with a fake or false ID in a government building there. The penalties are quite severe . Check that out on your own.

In CdO you MUST have long pants and socks or you will not get past the front gate, sari store across street rents socks and long pants, but gate guards will not tell you that. They changed, but originally basic license endorsed for m/c Your first renewal, with no points against you, the renewel is good for 10 years. If one LTO refuses you for anything, go to another LTO. Go in with expired license and you will follow same proceedures as a 18 yr old, driving school, full tests, etc. In muslim areas, you will never be innocent in an accident. Rule #1 your fault because accident wouldn't have happened if you weren't there.

From a return of investment point of view i think renting is cheaper than owning. I thought about Tagaytay, I have a friend there. When Taal volcano went off, they got quite a coating of ash. Baguio seems touristy, crowded, traffic, expensive. I think I would look in the mountains AROUND Baguio but you around Baguio but there aren't condos in the mountais. @@ralphwilloughby915 Good advice. Yes, I learned the lesson about entanglements and girls wanting you to move to their location from getting an account a few months back on Filipina Cupid and I completely agree and that is not the way to go _ first find a home and get settled in and comfortable before you start looking for a girlfriend or wife. I do not plan on living in the city, no matter where I settle. I want a place peaceful and quiet with a beautiful view of the sunset. From my research I thought we could own a Townhouse as well as a Condo, but do understand we can't own a house/land. That fact is the one reason I am still thinking of heading to Thailand, if I'm honest. I'm not in a hurry and do plan on renting for a few months to get to know the area well before I buy anything.

Have to say the Information i have heard about the international driving licence in PH is not good. Have heard that it is NOT completely valid in PH so if you get in your country of origin hoping that will do you after 90 days i have heard of lots of Expats ebing told that it is not valid there and they need to get a Philippine licence after the 90 days. Dash cams for front and rear are definitely a must even for Filipinos. My girl has a new car and it's been hit 3 times in the 2 years she has had it and the viceo photage i seen on one of them was just plain nuts! The Trike ebhind her could be seen from a distance coming up fast and overtaking all the other traffic from behind. She wasn't driving fast at all in fact had just pulled out into the flow about a minute before but she had to slow and stop cause a dog walked out into the road in front of her. Well the Trike kept coming straight for her even after her car had stopped, he then at the last moment seen he was going to hit her he turned sharp left to avoid her car but still caught the corner of her car. Hid Trike went spinning and he had a passenger. Luckily after spinning about 3 times it stopped in the middle of the road and luckily both the Trike rider and his passenger were not badly hurt just a couple of bruises, but one second later and the passenger would have been squashed between her car and the Trike. All his fault but he had no license, no insurance and no way to pay for the damage to her car so her insurance had to pay for all repairs. Second incident a drunk old man on his way home on his trike smashed into her car when she was parked waiting to take her Papa home from the market at night. He was drunk no license no insurance and again no way to pay for the damage. The police showed up at that incident as it was outside the market. The Drunk guy got arrested but sort of lucky for him his daughter was an OFW and was able to send my girl money to cover the liability part of the insurance claim but it was needing replacing every panel on the left hand side of the car. Owning a car in PH here is Two tips and one thing to expect. IT WILL GET HIT no matter how carefull you are! Probably at least once a year, probably by a Trike or motorbike and expect the rider to not have insurance or even a license, so have cameras have insurance and don't expect that new car shine to last more than a year or more cause it will have a lot of minor bumps and scrapes by then if not a couple of big ones.

@@PaulWorldZoom haha true, but then again, a little "financial consideration" for the policeman could quickly send me on my merry way ;-)
