Andrew, thank you so much for these great Excel VBA videos!! You are indeed a very brilliant teacher. I really appreciate your approach in explaining the why instead of only the how and the advantages of one approach over another. I've watched a lot of others and most of them are very "cook book" like. The way you build on your lessons is excellent and they can be referenced as stand alone lessons as well. One suggestion I have is to perhaps putting your agenda of each lesson in the description section so it can be more easily searched. Lesson 5 for instance has a good section on copy/paste at the end which I needed to refresh myself memory on, but couldn't remember which lesson I saw it on. Thanks so much again!!!

Excellent!!! What I am liking about your videos, is that there are no example files that I can use, so it is forcing me to write my own code. this is good, because I am making mistakes when typing, then rather than look at YOUR code on the screen, I fix it myself. gives me great satisfaction. I also like how succinct it is, the demonstration is amazing. The simple example off how you did the offset grabbing the cells, then saying minus 1, clearly showed how that function works. I have watched hundreds of videos and nothing comes close to yours. Thankyou

Thank you very much, Andrew. Although there are many different sources on KZitem, I think your videos are the most well structured and explanatory. There is one thing I'd like to ask though, you have two playlists - Excel Vba online course and Excel VBA introduction. I'm a beginner and I plan to watch them all. But which playlist should a novice like me aiming to learn all start with? The excel vba online course videos appear to be more like concentrated pills, while Excel Vba Introduction series are longer and comprehensive videos. But would be glad to understand what you had in mind and how should one proceed. Thank you very much for all this precious content!
@WiseOwlTutorials
4 жыл бұрын
Hi Lütfi, happy to hear that you're enjoying the videos! I think either series will be fine for a novice to VBA. In short, the Excel VBA Online Course is a better structured, up-to-date version of the first 19-20 videos in the Excel VBA Introduction series. The Excel VBA Introduction series was started many years ago and the earlier videos in the playlist are looking a bit dated! The Excel VBA Online Course videos have files which you can download which isn't the case for the earlier videos in the Excel VBA Introduction series. The Excel VBA Online Course also has a written transcript of the video and optional exercises to complete after each lesson. I hope that helps and thanks for watching!

Hello! I found Type: = 1 bad for criticizing the date entry (dd / mm / yyyy) because the alert about the invalid date is "This is not a number!" and it should be "This is not a date!". I used the normal InputBox inside a loop (Do While / Loop) and a logic test (If / Then / End If) to criticize the dates ... See below: Sub DataAdmEntry() Dim DtAdm As String ' To accept any data Do While True ' Do it while it's true DtAdm = InputBox ("Enter Admission Date:") If DtAdm = "" Then Exit Sub ' Cancel button has been chosen If IsDate (DtAdm) then Exit Do ' If it is a valid date Msgbox "This is not a valid date!", VbInformation + VbOkOnly, "Warning" Loop Msgbox "Admission Date is " & DtAdm End Sub

Indeed, it's not perfect, I don't think any solution asking users to enter dates in an inputbox is great. The DateTimePicker control on a user form used to be my favourite way to do this (we have a video on it somewhere) but it's becoming more difficult to make available to end users. Thanks for the suggestion and for watching!

Hi Jiamin - this will happen if you don't already have any data in your list (or only a single row of data). You can solve this in many ways but a simple one is to use this line: Range("B1048576").End(xlUp).Offset(1,0).Value = FilmName The idea is explained in more detail in this video kzitem.info/news/bejne/0X9o1qxohKGSo4o I hope that helps you!

At 12mins, under the topic of Validating the Application.InputBox, if you input a string for a number, you get an error message, but if you enter a negative number it doesn’t detect the error, so I added a bit of code to detect negative numbers. FilmLength = Application.InputBox(Prompt:="Enter the length", Type:=1) If FilmLength < 0 Then MsgBox "You have entered an invalid number." Exit Sub End If Further improvements can be done to this code, if the length of film should be within a certain range(e.g. 120 to 240 mins.)

These tutorials definitely are worth much more views. I've stumbled upon an irritating '1004' error stating "Application-defined or object-defined error" and I can not figure out, how to cope with that. VBA while debugging indicates me the very last line of the sub routine "FormulaCell.FormulaLocal = Myformula", I don't have any clue what is wrong with this line.
@bowbert23

***** Well, the Immediate Window does not display the FormulaCell variable. The Locals Window on the other hand shows me FormulaCell with all the parameters - I can clearly see that the populated column matches the one I selected but in CurrentArray there are no cells ;p

***** Wow, indeed it is. When I entered a string instead of a formula into Myformula variable (changing 0 to 2 in type parameter), it worked just splendid. :) Nonetheless, I still don't have any finest idea why a formula won't work. ;p

***** Ok, thanks Andy for all your hard work on tutorials and putting me on the right track with Application.Inputbbox formula problem. Turns out that FormulaLocal property did a little mess, since Polish version somehow preferes and works with Formula property in Range.

***** I think i have a response for BowBert : i struggled with the same issue. The formula after application.inputbox is retrieving R1C1 references for the formula entered in the inputbox for foreign systems ( mine is french). FormulaLocal 'accepts' A1 references and correspondent to local language settings for formula. I think is one the reason for this 1004 ERROR. Just an hypothesis !!! Thanks Andy for all !!!

Hi Andrew, I recently started watching your videos about VBA. You can't imagine how happy I felt when I wrote my first VBA code and for that I am really thankful to you. I have two short questions. How can I make an interactively chosen cell (using Application.Inputbox) as an active cell? Second: I want to select (and copy) a dynamic range of cells, dates for example (in a single column) using End(xlDown) but I don't want to select the last row. How can I do that? I tried multiple things but no success :(

Thank you very much. I declared DatesToSelect as a variable and set it equal to: Dim DatesToSelect as Range Set DatesToSelect = Range("A2", Range("A1").End(xlDown).Offset(-1, 0)) DatesToSelect.Copy and later I am using this variable in the code. I am trying to use DatesToSelect and use the Offset keyword to select other columns (Film Length for example) but so far no success. But I am working on it :) Thanks again.

Andy, I love your videos - I think they are very good. However, I am an American and I think you are a little bit wrong about the date input at 14:40 of the video. You prompt the user with dd/mm/yyyy but clearly Excel wants mm/dd/yyyy. Try Halloween, 10/31/12 vs. 31/10/12. I get an error if I put in 31/10/12 but everything is fine if I use 10/31/12.
