Moros y Cristianos festival

The Moors and Christians festival is a deep-rooted tradition, especially in the provinces of Valencia and Alicante. This is a historical celebration that represents the battle of the Reconquista - a period when Christians fought the Muslims to reconquer the Iberian Peninsula. It takes on a different air in each place, but the things they all have in common are a lot of music, gunpowder and colourful costumes. The show is guaranteed to be a spectacle.
The Moors and Christians (in Valencian Moros i Cristians) are a popular Spanish festival celebrated mainly in the south of the Valencian Community and other areas of southeastern Spain. According to tradition, these festivities commemorate the battles fought during the Reconquest, during which the Christians of the kingdoms of Spain conquered the domains occupied by the Muslims (called "Moors"). It also commemorates the whole period of Saracen rebellions, the attacks of Barbary pirates, and the expulsion of the Moors, which took place in the seventeenth century, a period in which, in some cases, the beginnings of this celebration have their origin. These celebrations are held mainly in the east and southeast of Spain, having its epicenter in the province of Alicante and south of the province of Valencia. In this area are the municipalities where the most massive and multitudinous celebrations are held. They are also celebrated in the provinces of Murcia, Albacete, Granada, Almeria, Jaen and some other areas bordering the Valencian Community.
