Disaster? How's that a disaster when it was loud and now it's quiet and the fix was cheap? Good job. I keep soda and soup cans around for problems like what you had. I used a beer can to fix a broken sway bar bracket on a 1996 Camry. It was still working when I got rid of it. Happy Motoring

Yeahh for exhaust work, if it's not direct bolt on, I would just take it to an exhaust shop where they make a quick work of cutting and welding with their oxy torches. In and out in an hour for like 150 bucks lol

Exactly. The good smaller shops that are reasonable priced have backlogs of work. Forget the chain stores. Big money

In my books anyone that can successfully do exhaust work is an absolute genius. I fail every time I attempt it. These days I take exhaust work to a shop.

Yeah, I was attempting to replace that flex pipe myself and had trouble doing it. I ended up getting a cheap Y pipe from eBay and it's been holding up for 2 years now.

Just found this. This will help me out. Ordered a a split 2 PC flange to unite the catalytic converter pipe to the mid pipe. Have a 1999 Toyota rav4 with 260,000 miles. Very reliable. Big plus is a non interference engine. I do have a platinum flux welding setup with helmet from harbor freight. Still in the box. I have never welded anything

Thank you for this. Have a similar thing going. Half debating whether to get it welded by someone. The guys that do this on regular older cars have a waiting list.

I have the same issue. Im thinking about stuffing it with epoxy putty and clamping it Update: Mines was completely cracked near the engine block. Stuff it with 5 tubes of epoxy putty from hd. So far the noise and exhaust smell is gone

Do you think wrapping the flex area with a high temperature flue tape would extend the life of that weak spot? Thanks for the video!

Good thing my 2011 just needs a gasket after a 0 mile aftermarket tranny install needed to remove the damn pipe. Not looking forward to other issues. 1700 bucks for replacement system. I feel like you could just buy a custom system at the same of less. But who knows

Yeah, I saw online where you could buy a system for 350 bucks. Not sure if it’ll be any good, but 1700 is a lot.

Yeah, this is exactly what I'm starring at as my sienna is on a jack stand/jack. I'm forced to be cheap on this one. I didn't hear whether or not your temporary fix solved your temporary problem. How was the noise level after you finished?
@therustichandyman
Жыл бұрын
It is really just a temporary fix to keep my muffler together for a while longer. It did help the noise level though. My whole muffler is rattling a little bit though because it’s falling apart piece by piece.

I wish I knew the answer to that. I’m getting ready to replace my whole exhaust system (minus the catalytic converter) since the rest of mine is falling apart. I found an affordable option I’m going to try through eBay from a company called upsw.com. You might want to take a look.
