I had the same exact problem on 94 accord ex. I just used this video for inspiration. I used the ubolt to squeeze down the end into the converter and hammered it in after adding muffler sealer. then on the opposite end I also added muffler sealer before tightening down the ubolt. let the sealer cure overnight. nice and quiet. great video! very helpful!

You can also add exhaust tape that you can wrap around the whole exhaust. The tape will epoxy weld to the car after idling for 30 minutes. That's where I add the U Clamps on either ends. This ensures that there won't be any leaks in the exhaust. I use method all the time and it really helps when both flanges rust off. Awesome to see other people use this method too! Awesome video!

for those watching this later on; they make repair flanges with short lengths of pipe specifically for this scenario. you just need to get one that fits in or over your existing pipe. cut the old pipe to the end is even if needed, and fit the new flange section to the old pipe, bolt the flange to the existing section and then tighten the clamp.

Brown X and friends! Thanks for checking out the video and sharing your comment. This is a pretty friendly Do-It-Yourself project & can save some money 💰 as well. It is very important to use Jack Stands as well. The last thing you want is the Hydraulic Jack failing. A normal Ratchet & Socket set will come in very handy. In the event that the hole is small, it’s possible that you can use Exhaust Tape to seal/cover hole. Joseph Simmons Thanks for checking out the video and sharing your comment Joseph. This is a pretty friendly DIY project & will definitely save you some cash! The exhaust tape can be very handy as it can be applied anywhere. You can use the pipe adapter & clamp it into place. I just resently went through a flang that rusted out on my cat on my 96 Honda Accord, I went to my muffler shop and had the same pipe you had put on my car by my welder, he inserted the pipe into the cat a little and over the connecting pipe, the only difference is he welded both sides shut, so my car runs smooth and quiet, those clamps wont seal it shut so you must have had a noisey as hell ride after that, my suggestion since you might not be able to find a welder is to use some kind of muffler poxy to fill the side with the clamps and the area around were you inserted the pipe, wait a while for the poxy to get hard and no air leaks should be there, nice, quiet smooth ride now. P.S my mechanic/welder only charged my $50 bucks for the job and was done in 25-30 minutes, you probably spent at least $25 to $40 bucks on all that stuff, if you would have found a cheap but good muffler shop, you could have saved yourself the labor and headache and had it done for $50 bucks too, while watching the guy break his back all the while sipping a Coke, that's what I did, like ah boss.

Good morning, just poured a cup of coffee and am sitting down to answer any and all questions for the DIY community. Great question and it is indeed. The clamp itself is circular in design along with the circular cut to the base that the threaded studs feed through. As you tighten in an aligned sequence, the circular shape of each part creates a very close connection to the pipe. I tried three autozones. They all tried to look up the part and size I need but said I would have to provide the measurements to them myself or the exact part number I need. So now I guess I need a tool to measure the diameter of the exhaust pipe. I’m gonna see if I can fix mine like you did. I do not want to buy a whole new exhaust system. No way
@DIYwithMichaelBorders

@@davidjamesqc Thanks for the update. After allowing engine and exhaust to cool off, a simple trick is to measure the very back-end part of your exhaust pipe. Measure the pipe from one side to the other, should only be a few inches or so depending on your pipe. You can use that info to get the proper size adapters. 👍

There is nothing holding that pipe inside the converter. No way. I've done hundreds of these. Where is the high temp lock Tite for the one u bolt you did use? Also why cut them down when you can turn the clamp more sideways? Why didn't you get the right size to fit over the pipe? That fix didn't make it out of the driveway

LOL Where I live, there are 3 Mom & Pop Garages where the Customer can provide the parts, and they will do the Labor. The Universal Pipe Adapter I can definitely afford. I saw that the 2 U-Clamps featured in the video were 2 1/4 & 1 7/8. I was able to find them on Amazon, and I filtered the results to make sure they were specifically for my 2006 Honda Pilot. Right now I just have to be really careful driving until the parts arrive and I can get this fixed. I will keep you posted.

@@DIYwithMichaelBorders Hi Mike. Amazon has the Nickson Industries 2 1/4 ID X 1 7/8 OD Exhaust Adapter you used in the video, so I ordered that. I have a 2 1/4 U-bolt Exhaust Clamp also ordered. It was hard to find a 1 7/8 Clamp, but I did. Unfortunately, the 1 7/8 Clamp won't arrive until Monday, December 4th, and that is with a Prime Membership. The other 2 parts will arrive Wednesday, November 29th, which is weird but what can I do. Now, at the end of the video, you mentioned that the 1 7/8 Clamp was installed inside of the Catalytic Converter. Since that wasn't shown in the video, could you provide the details on how that was done? That way I can give those details to the Mechanic. Thanks, Neill.

I just resently went through a flang that rusted out on my cat on my 96 Honda Accord, I went to my muffler shop and had the same pipe you had put on my car by my welder, he inserted the pipe into the cat a little and over the connecting pipe, the only difference is he welded both sides shut, so my car runs smooth and quiet, those clamps wont seal it shut so you must have has a noisey as hell ride after that, my suggestion since you might not be able to find a welder is to use some kind of muffler poxy to fill the side with the clamps and the area around were you inserted the pipe, wait a while for the poxy to get hard and no air leaks should be there, nice, quiet smooth ride now.
