“A Place for My Things”
Ashley Stecenko MFA Thesis Exhibition
Moudy Gallery, Texas Christian University
March 15 - 19, 2021
“A Place for My Things” consists of a series of image-transfer drawings on fabric. The work revolves around the concept of home, both physically and mentally. In the exhibition, Stecenko references her personal space and furniture as signifiers for intimacy, comfort, and solitude. Through a process of solvent-based image transfers, in which she lifts the ink from the surface of photographs onto a translucent fabric, Stecenko uses drawing and sewing to interpret the house as a body of images and an extension of self.
Ashley Stecenko spent her childhood growing up all around the Midwest and is now living and working in Texas. She is currently a graduate student earning her MFA in Studio Art at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas. She received her BFA in Painting from Herron School of Art and Design in Indianapolis, Indiana. Ashley’s work focuses on interests in family dynamics, displacement, and memory. Through a process of solvent-based image transfers, she removes the image from its original context in order to construct a psychological space - exploring the places where emotional states collide. www.ashleystec...
