"Wolf" was EXO's first comeback since their debut promotions and it came out in May 2013 as part of their XOXO album. "Wolf" was another one of EXO's songs that the mainstream public thought SM was making an even bigger mistake with. It was a song and concept that was too unique for most mainstream listeners when it first came out, and most people didn't really like the song or the MV. However, as many have discovered, it's one of those songs that once you listen to it more, it grows on you, and now it has become much more popular. So what you see in their "Wolf" MV is that all 12 members come together to form the Tree of Life and in the middle of the song you see how they split up into EXO-K and EXO-M and each group creates their own tree. How I interpenetrate that is they are showing how the tree has now been split in half and each half of the tree represents the two halves of EXO. In the intro to "Mama" they talk about how the Tree of Life has been split in two and each half has been hidden away. It's EXO's job to find the two halves of the Tree of Life and reunite them to restore peace in the world. Also how EXO worked when they were split up into the two groups was that everyone was involved in both MVs, but they were never exactly the same because in the Korean version the EXO-K members were featured more prominently and were the ones to sing the main parts of the song, however, in the Mandarin version the EXO-M members take over the main parts. If you notice in their "Wolf" MVs, the main scenes are almost exactly reverse of each other. In the Korean version they are on the right side of the screen, and in the Mandarin version they are on the left side. As the intro to "Mama" points out, when the two halves of EXO stand on the same ground they see different things, and when they stand on different ground they see the same things. Therefore, the story in the K MVs is being told from the EXO-K members point of view, where in the M MVs the story is told from the EXO-M members view point. As you can see, in "Wolf" the members are supposed to be a wolf pack, so the entire MV and the song is them acting like wolves. The designs you see on the walls and ceiling say EXO, because as a wolf pack, they are supposed to be inside EXO's cave or the pack's den, etc. (Which some theories have pointed to, could be connected to SuperM's "Tiger Inside" MV.) The choreography was created to use movements that made them seem like wolves, and the moves, such as them showing their claws and bristling their backs and shaking are all things that wolves do as they compete for power and attention, etc. The wolf comes out of the forest (as he scratches the ground behind the Tree of Life) in the beginning of the MV and he is stalking his prey. Their prey is the girl that, in the song, they are talking about being so obsessed with and in love with that they can't help but act like a wolf and capture her so that no one else can have her, etc. Just like in their "Growl" and "Call Me Baby" MVs, the camera is another character in the story. The camera is supposed to represent the girl that they are singing to. We as viewers are supposed to imagine that we are standing in that room while the EXO members try to get our attention. That is why they stare so intensely at the camera and why the camera follows them around because they are all competing for "the girl's" i.e. camera's attention. Which is why as wolves we see them fighting with each other. I'm not sure how this concept was supposed to fit into EXO's larger storyline, but many feel that after Kris, Luhan and Tao left the group that the wolf part of the story was completely dropped and it is no longer part of EXO's story. So we just watch it as a fun side story now instead. However, there are still parts of this storyline and concept that could be connected to EXO's main storyline. For example, it is often thought that the girl that EXO sings about in their songs is a manifestation of the heart of the Tree of Life. So, that is why they become so enamored by her and so possessive and protective of her, etc. Protecting the heart of the Tree of Life -- or the girl -- is what EXO has been sent to Earth to do. If you look up the English translation of the lyrics for "Wolf" you will see that the main point of the song is they are saying, I'm a wolf, I'm a wolf and I love you so fiercely that I am going to capture you and possess you and devour you like the wolf that I am. I never quite understood why in the studio recording/MV of the Mandarin version of "Wolf", they left the Korean word for I love you -- saranghaeyo -- in the Mandarin song, and turned it into a nonsense English phrase that has no meaning. Because, if you ever hear EXO-M perform "Wolf" live in China, they always changed the lyrics to say Wǒ ài nǐ, which is I love you in Mandarin. And it doesn't sound strange or out of place, so why didn't they change it for the MV? Just one of those odd choices SM made that we may never understand. :D If you are impressed with their vocals in the MV, just wait until you see the live concert remix performance of the song. You will be even more blown away when you hear what they can do live, kzitem.info/news/bejne/wm6Ly4eMoJuJoH4. "Growl" was the follow up song to "Wolf. "Growl" was the song that was the lead track on the XOXO repackaged album, which came out in August 2013. Once you hear "Growl" you should check out EXO's "Growl"/"Wolf" Drama video, kzitem.info/news/bejne/1Hx53I6LjKCmqKg. Watching the drama also might help to explain more of the story in their "Wolf" MV, however, as I said, I'm not sure the story goes any further than being mostly just a fun side story now. Fun fact: Kris' eyes turning red will make more sense once you watch the drama version. On top of being aliens they -- Kris and Luhan in particular, and maybe Lay -- also are wolves. Just watch the short drama video to see what I mean.

its weird to listen this song after i heard they demo version🤣 as i know.., EXO's hated to sing this song. But I really like it despite it being super weird. That " Awooo sarangheyo" and the iconic "CHOGIWA" at the start. they make a bad voice while recording, so SM ent cancel this song (but finally SM ent just do little edit, cause their vocal already perfect even they try to make it bad😂) fun fact : even exo being feel so weird to sing this song. but this song bring a first win in award..hahahahaha🤣🤣 while encore in inkigayo award, exo was confused (cause this song so weird, they feel proud and weird at the same time) 😂😂 sorry my english is bad😅
